Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

I spent 5 years, between 2015-2020, traveling the country. 35,000 miles. 60 years old when I started, and I sold everything I owned to do it. Just me, my car and some clothes. Sometimes staying with people I met on social media, sometimes renting; working occasionally. Blogged a bit. It was amazing, fascinating and absolutely, thoroughly wonderful. It changed me deeply. Back home now, I have no regrets. Can't wait to see this film.

I am not sure but I was not moved by this movie as much as I thought I would be. I think a movie like The Florida Project really changed me and moved to the core because it just felt so desperately sad. I think maybe because children were the story, and when an adult lives in a van by choice I just didn't feel much. Also, the movie Into The Wild already explored this I feel on a deeper level.

This second trailer made the film even more beautiful and heartwarming, makes me want to watch it for the third bloody time! "one of the things I love most about this life is that there's no final goodbye, let's just say, I'll see you down the road" makes my heart melt all the time.

The Israelites were greed from the Egyptian's grip, and forgot who had been hearing their prayers for years! Moses 40 yrs privilege, 40 yrs in the wilderness.40 yrs leadership what a rough trip but he mostly didn't slip or likely kip!

Not sure if this is a *spoiler* But I was legitimately blown away to find out, Linda May, Swankie, Bob wells and a lot of the other nomads in the movie were actually nomads. They literally played their roles perfectly, but can’t say I’m totally surprised since it is their lives.

I don't have a youtube, not sure I will even go that route. I Instagram but to share with others only. Maybe I'll do YT occasionally to share videos but really, I'm doing this for me.

I've been nomadish living since May2020 I live out if my SUV I stay in the midwest and my belongings that I will soon give away is in storage. I just "did it" it's so freeing..and without the tips from Bob Wells and other KZfaq creators this wouldn't be possible.

Heartbreaking and heart warming, a sad yet triumphant piece of story telling, a provocative statement that does what a good movie should do. It brings you to a point of introspection and has you examining the parallels of love, friendships and those lost in your own life. A thoroughly entertaining look at the complex dichotomy of modern day nomadic life.

I’m a truck driver. Any time I go thru Quartzsite AZ, I stop and take some time to talk to the “nomads”. Some very friendly and interesting folks (for the most part-there are a few loners that don’t want to be bothered)

Even people she met along the way in local stores or the Hostesses at the front desk... they were all REAL people in those towns, not Actors. Bob Wells is a messiah in the Van/RV dwelling community and the story he tells at the end is true.. and very heartfelt because its something he never revealed to his viewers... i wont spoil, but its one of the best moments of the movie to me. I dont think it glamorized this lifestyle at all.. it was pretty true-to-life.

The film is pretty good, but I would never buy a service for it, such as Hulu or anything else for this particular movie. It is "Hollywood" good, which means it is how some liberal, probably wealthy (or hangs out with), people see the world, this world, which is not really authentic at all. Amazon must have helped finance the movie too. It is pretty "sanitized" version of this lifestyle. There is no crime, no sexual assault on women, no drug use, no swearing, no side of real ugliness of society that surely does occur.

Best Cinematogrpahy and Best Actress are both (maybe)s. Mank is going strong in Best Cinematography and Carrey Mulligan might get the Best Actress hype for Promising Young Woman. They might not feel like giving Frances McDormand a third Oscar especially when she won her last one only 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure Chloé Zhao will win Best Director though.

I'd say this is a movie. In that watching Easy Rider and imagining it's all like that all the time is delusional. It's more like an endurance test and sort of dangerous in reality. I'd get more real info before committing to anything. Jmo. KZfaq has a lot of fakey stuff that isn't real at all.

I watched this last night and it felt sad to me. Her expressions didn’t seem happy to be out there, but maybe it was still sadness from the loss of her husband? Some smiles with people along the way. The trailer was more enjoyable then the movie was to me.

Wow - I didn’t feel that at all. I felt she made peace with her loss & was able to go forward, not needing her family or a man in her life any more. I thought it was a triumphant journey over grief.
