Content warning: surgery, wounds.
Hey everyone! I had double incision top surgery on July 8th, 2019 with Dr. Nicholas Kim at the University of Minnesota and I'm so glad I did. I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments or you can DM me on Instagram @__themensroom__ and subscribe to see more updates. I've spent months editing this down so hopefully it will be helpful to you all and cool for me to look back on. Thanks for watching!
This video was inspired by Ryland Darcy's recovery vlog which you can find here: • Video
FAQ: I'm non-binary and transgender, I use they/them pronouns, and I was not on HRT/testosterone at the time of this video.

You've never been on T? You have a pretty naturally deeper sounding voice. I wish mine was deeper like that. One main reason I do want T. And your results look great. Makes me want to get it done soon. I love seeing that more and more non-binary people can get it and doctors don't expect them to be FTM. I'm non-binary also. I know the main thing that would be difficult for me when I'm able to get top surgery afterwards would be sleeping on my back. Lol I am not a back sleeper.

Thanks! Yeah, no T for me so far. My voice has gotten a bit deeper over the past couple years though, I think mostly by consciously and unconsciously pitching it down to pass as a man at work. I'm super lucky that I don't have to think about it as much now. As for sleeping, I'm totally not a back sleeper as well. But after surgery I was so drugged up and tired that I wasn't thinking about that. It was easy to sleep for the first day, then really hard because the anesthesia wore off and I was uncomfortable. But I got used to being on my back, so I wouldn't worry about that part. Definitely get plenty of sleep the week before surgery though to charge up!

Hi! I think they spoke in a voice technic which is called chest fry. Bass singers do that to hit cery low notes. Early at morning the voice is deepest and the chest fry often is natural. Don't know if that still matters, but thought I write it for them who are interested in. :)

Yo your chest came out DOPE! Worth the wait! You got me all pumped up for sure! I have had reduction surgery already like years ago. I shoulda just done it all but at the time I think I was worried about society. F society. I am too old to care, this is my life and this is for me. You had great support through the whole thing and I am sure they are thrilled for you being you! Love your vids, you seem like a chill fun person. Hope to see more soon!

Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I agree; do what is best for you and not what you think other people will want. I'll be putting out a one year post-op video soon so stay tuned :)

Thank you for sharing this. I'm fairly early into the process of looking into getting top surgery for myself, and it was so helpful & validating to watch your experience and understand a bit more of the actual process. I cried the whole time, but in the best way possible :') I can only hope my eventual results are as amazing as yours! Congrats and thanks again!!

Hey I just wanted to say you're my role model and I've been binge watching all your videos because your a huge inspiration also I was wondering how did you start your transition to non-binary because I have no idea where to start?
@thequeernerd6733
@thequeernerd6733 4 жыл бұрын
Omg thank you! I started by coming out to some friends and then my family with just my identity as non-binary. Then I changed my pronouns to they/them, and a few years later I changed my name. But you can take whatever path you want!

The beginning part.. is there an option, do you know, to be asleep.. before the needles and stuff?? cause i have. a severe needle phobia and i was very prepared for all of the process but that part specifically, being aware/awake while on drugs and getting the IV and stuff, is... oh boy.
@MEGAF00T
@MEGAF00T 4 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure that’s legally not something they can do because it’s not a conscious thing you’d get to witness. They could get in some sort of trouble for that. Also, putting a needle in a sleeping person would definitely wake them up. Your body would go into flight or fight and you could hurt yourself.

I'm not sure if you can be completely asleep but they had me partially sedated (it felt like I was drunk) so it wasn't as bad as if I was awake.

Enby from chicago here, getting top surgery on the 20th! How long did you bind post op? Looks great! Proud of you 🤠🤙🏼
@thequeernerd6733
@thequeernerd6733 3 жыл бұрын
Yay! Good luck! I think I bound for about a month, but unfortunately I don't remember exactly. I used an Ace bandage, which I thought sounded horrible before, but when I was wearing it I was honestly thankful because my chest felt so fragile and it kind of held me together. It was itchy though. And the bandage was much easier to adjust than a surgical vest would be, fyi.

How much dose the surgery cost? Also how should tell my parents that i wanna be non binary?
@thequeernerd6733
@thequeernerd6733 8 ай бұрын
The cost to me was around $3,000 out of pocket. My health insurance covered the rest of the cost, which was several thousand dollars. An additional cost to consider is time you or caretakers may have to take off from work. If you're still struggling with telling your parents, I would encourage you to first talk to them about trans people broadly to see how they feel about us, if you don't already know. And then if they seem open, just be honest! If not, make sure you have a support system of friends and other folks in your life before you come out so you are safe. Good luck!

Okey so you identify as non binary and everyone support you and almost nobody on the internet is against that. But why does Demi Lovato got so much hate for this? Like they also identify as non binary and the majority of the people and the fans don’t support them.

Very good question. Demi Lovato deserves love and support! But the internet can be cruel sometimes.
