This song is from the same album as Like Crazy. The album is called FACE. And in it he talks about his feelings during the Covid lockdown. BTS were about to embark on a massive world tour for their album Map of the Soul: 7. But due to Covid it was cancelled and they were very restricted for so long in what they were able to do. They did online concerts, vlogs and lives to keep in touch with ARMY. Historically, Jimin has faced a lot of hate for being “effeminate”. People would refer to him in derogatory terms and he got a LOT of death threats. I think this song is such a celebration of who he is and how he won’t hide himself anymore. He’s, as you say, liberated. P.S: the text on Jimins body is a German poem called “Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen” by Rainer Maria Rilke. In English it translates to “I live my life in ever widening circles.”

I was blown away the first time I heard and saw this! Also somehow I felt proud. That he’s done something so strong and (in my opinion) sort of daring. He’s so versatile, his voice can do many things, he’s intelligent and clever. This video has it all. I kept thinking I’m not ready for the rest of the album, and I wasn’t! It’s a beautiful piece of work. I know this one is less “mainstream” than Like Crazy, but it won my heart first, so I think I am bias towards it. My favorite on the album is Face-off. But then again, the hidden track Letter is something that’s not even a song anymore, it’s just pure love and comfort. 💜 Enjoy more reactions! 💜

❣Jimin “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, which aside from the two main choreographers, he had a hand in, offering suggestions, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production, even the set design of the MV. Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this made me that much more excited, for the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” released last yr on March 24, along with his main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Jimin’s other songs “Face-Off”, “Alone”, as well as hidden track “Letter” are all equally amazing! Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! It was his idea to have the set designed like a circular prison. He was also hands on involved with the choreography. JIMIN IS THE BEST KING OF K-POP

Set Me Free pt.2 is actually the last song (excluding the English version of Like Crazy and the hidden track Letter) off his recent solo album Face. Since you liked his songs so much, I think you should listen to the full album. The triumphant declaration of freedom in Set Me Free pt.2 hits differently after hearing the full journey of struggles he goes through on Face.

Love this reaction! 'Set me free' and 'Like crazy' are both part of his first solo album 'FACE'. The whole album is absolutely amazing and tells a really touching story. Jimin said it's about the emotions he felt and experiences he had during the pandemic in chronological order. Some of it is heart breaking, raw and explicit, but also empowering. It contains themes like loneliness, escapism, drinking, ending relationships, getting used by other people, but also breaking free from all of that, him finding himself and becoming a stronger person. I'm so thankful he gave us such an intimate view into himself, and it will always be one of my favourite albums. Here's some information about the songs: 1) Face-off: This song has a lot of anger. Jimin explained that relationships are difficult and hard to maintain. During the pandemic, he broke off with some people because he got to see their true colours and realised, that they only used him for who he is. Unfortunately, he also blamed himself for it, saying he shouldn’t have trusted them. He mentions drinking because he didn't want to be sober to deal with all of it (lyrics: “tonight I don’t wanna be sober, pour it up it’s all fu****g over”). It could also be interpreted as a face-off with himself like trying to get rid of traces he doesn't accept in himself. 2) Like Crazy: Jimin said it's about the time he lost himself in escapism to cope during the pandemic. He didn't realise (or didn't want to accept) he wasn't doing fine and just tried to push back and avoid all the bad emotions and things by going out, having fun, drinking, and staying in this ‘dream reality’ (as you can her in the lyrics "don't try to save me, I wanna stay in this dream”). But at the end of the day, he came back home, being alone again. After that period, he realised he wasn't okay, like "wait, what am I even doing?" and came to the realization he wasn't simply having fun but actually just escaping his problems, loneliness and pain. It's a very sensual song which can be interpreted in many ways. Jimin said it was inspired by one of his favourite movies called 'Like Crazy', which deals with a very realistic break up of a couple. 3) Alone: In ‘Alone’ he realises he wasn’t doing okay before. It’s like finally waking up from that dream. He talks about how lonely he actually feels, and he doesn’t know how and when the pain will end. He’s trying not to show anyone in how much pain he’s in, but he feels pathetic pretending to be fine all the time. Although he says everything will get better, he doesn’t actually believe in it (lyrics: “It’s gonna be alright. Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie …”) 4) Set me free pt. 2: This song is Jimin finally breaking free from all that he suffered from. He’s unapologetically going to be himself now, not caring about what anyone might say. He’s accepting the true face of himself and won’t hide himself anymore, even if it hurts. All hardships have made him a different person, but he won’t forget his past self and is proud of what he has accomplished. Unfortunately, Jimin is one of the members that got the most hate. He had (and still has) to go through many things. This is a very powerful and aggressive way of showing all those people how strong he has become and that he won't listen to them anymore. Even the instrumental is like a hymn, it just sounds so epic and empowering. Jimin finally overcame his hardships and set himself free. (Fun fact: when this song was announced, the producer said that Jimin is going to end K-pop with it. And he really did, it just blew all of our minds.) Sorry for the long comment, I’m just very passionate about Jimin’s music. Hope this helped :)

I'm sorry, I chuckled when you said he's not your fav yet but you were SO excited. Was thinking to myself Jimin effect snatched another one 😂. This song as I understand it is about his feelings and emotions during the pandemic, the way he dealt with the isolation and eventually became too comfortable with it and then breaking out of it, setting himself free. Like Crazy was from the same album and deals with some of the same themes. 2. Interlude Set Me Free (pt 1) was released by Suga aka Agust D on his mixtape D2. BTS often will add a PT 2 even if another member is the one who released the original. We see this with Airplane released by J-Hope and Airplane Pt 2, a BTS group song.

I think he's talking mostly about being free of his old self and of certain mental health problems he had at some point during his career as an artist. He used to be too self conscious about his image and behavior, tried really hard to portray something he wasn't. But now he has worked on it and is more comfortable and happy with himself:)

First watch? Shock. I did not process most of the song. I did, however, burst into tears at the end. That lift he does at the end mirrors one he does in the choreo for his song Lie. In that, after the lift he gets placed down and continues the song, continues the lie (that is one helluva song to deconstruct too). In this, he finally escapes the lie and becomes his true self. He literally walks away. This song is both the internal struggle with himself plus the external stuff he gets thrown at him. He wasn’t kidding with saying mock. As much as he is loved, he is also intensely disliked for the stupidest reasons and criticized for so many ridiculous reasons from various factions. It’s painful and horrifying to see. He’s also grown into himself during the hiatus, so there’s that pIece of setting himself free from his past self as well. I saw some army say versions of, “that’s not our Chim Chim!” some of it joking, some not. My reaction was always, “well yeah. That’s kind of the point.” When I started rewatching, I got it. How many times have I told my depression/negative thoughts towards myself to set me free and let me live my life? This is the last song on his EP and is the resolution of a painful arc that goes through the album. This is all based on things he personally went through especially during Covid. Honestly, the song was even better listening to it as part of the album. During my many rewatches, I started picking up on all the details in the MV, especially the choreo and read what others picked up on as well. There is so much going on in addition to that lift, and I don’t want to overwhelm you. Let’s just say it is genius level work that is gorgeous and layered. And of course Jimin danced the hell out of it, as only he can. So yeah, tears. It still does it to me often. Sorry I went on and on, but this MV and song is just amazing.

When it dropped at midnight I had to keep myself from screaming when the second part of the song hit so I wouldn't scare my neighbors! Jimin is an amazing artist. His album Face was a very personal journey and it's even documented in Jimin's Production Diary on Weverse. RM gave him advice to make it more personal after reviewing the early work. Lie, Promise, and Filter are all songs by Jimin I recommend.

Once again when it comes to BTS and its members there can be many interpretations for many of their songs. I favor the interpretation of Jimin freeing himself from his own criticism of himself. If you explore their history Jimin was most harsh on himself with self doubt of his talent and skills and always striving to be better by telling himself he needed to work harder and he is not good enough. He struggled with this for many years feeling miserable about himself and that he might hold back BTS. He was the last member to be picked as BTS and had the shortest training period prior to their debut and perhaps this might have contributed to the negative image he had of himself, however, he is a perfectionist when it comes to his performances because he feels that’s what army deserves. I believe all of the members feel the same.

I remember watching the MV for this and was SO excited for him! After the hardships in BTS' career, his self doubt, and the devastation of the pandemic, this was his anthem of true freedom. You just really need to deep dive and do his "holy trinity" in one watch: Serendipity, Filter, and Lie. I am not beyond begging for that reaction 💜😊 Thank you!

I was in awe when I first saw this MV. I was not expecting this fierce side of him but I’m right here for it. I love this entire album and listen to it often. Jimin burrowed himself into my soul with his song Lie. It resonated very strongly with me (Like Crazy does as well). I feel like this song comes full circle from that one. In Lie he feels trapped by his own thoughts (probably telling himself he’s not good enough). He’s prone to being very hard on himself , so hearing him confidently declare he’s not going to let “being mocked” stop him is very satisfying and inspiring.

This is the last song in his album Face, which is chronological narration of what he went through during the pandemic. Jimin went through depression during the pandemic. As a matter of fact, he broke down and cried so hard during their first online concert. In this Set Me Free Pt 2, Jimin is talking to the person in the mirror he is looking at mirror and telling that person, his own self, to set him free from the noise inside his head, all the negativity. In other words, he wanted to move forward and ready to face what's ahead of him.

My thought when I saw this for the first time: ART Edit: remembered my first thought after watching again: “Where is our cutie, sexy, lovely, and sweet guy”. I didn’t expect this kind of music from him and it was good surprise.
