To me, Michael Jordan is no doubt the greatest mid-range shooter of all time. His percentage increases in the playoffs and increases more in the dying seconds of the game, when the game is on the line. His game winners were almost all the time midrange shots and they were unguardable and fluid. Defenders can only wish that he misses and most of the time he makes it. Undoubtedly the GOAT.
@ropibo2 ай бұрын
Durant is a better shooter, and he's taller ; the defenders don't wish anything (and they don't even need to be afraid) they just know. MJ is incredible, I love him, and he's number two, what is undoubtedly great.

@@JawstR None of the numbers support your argument. Kobe is top 5ish for me, he isn't top 3. MJ, Bird, KD, and Dirk were all more proficient and smarter with their mid range selection. Kobe was a great mid range shooter, but he literally copied every signature MJ move and shot the same type of shots, but at a lower efficiency. We also have to factor in that Kobe's mid-range jumper was not great in his first seven years. It was not in it's complete form until the 2005-06 season. Kobe was a very average shooter his first 4 seasons, then became good the next 3 seasons. Bird and Dirk were complete shooters from the beginning, and MJ's jumper was much better than Kobe's in their first 7 years. Kobe's poor shot selection is why he drops down on this list. glenn robinson and allen houston should be mentioned here as well. since nba keeps track of shooting locations (96/97) robinson been amongst leaders in mid range shots. he was: 6th in 97 with 9.4 attempts and making 46% 2nd in 98 with 12.3 attempts (45%) 3rd in 99 with 9.6 attempts (44%) 3rd in 00 with 10.3 attempts (48%) 7th in 01 with 9.9 attempts (45%) then he fell out of top 10 in mid range attempts as the league became more of a volume scoring swingmen league, but he would still average around 10 attempts and with a solid 45 to 50 fg% for another couple of years. houston was never amongst the leaders in attempts, but he had a 4/5 year run in late 90s/early 00s where he would take around 9 mid range shots per game and shoot close to 50%. if he played today he would easily be the best mid range shooter.

You have to understand. Kobe fans live in their own bubble where he’s top 3 all time or even GOAT for the most delusional ones whereas non Kobe cult member basketball fans just look at his game and rank him where they think he should be. To the cult that’s disrespectful, hate etc but that’s because they’re in a cult. Always whining about Kobe disrespect. Isn’t it enough he has a big ass cult that worships him? Damn.

A mid-range shot in the NBA is a jumper outside of the key, but inside the three-point line. It's subjective though. So not all mid range shots are necessarily equal. A player who mainly shoots close range jumpers can not be compared with a player who takes shots just inside the 3 point arc.

Hot take: Melo is the Ken Griffey Jr of the NBA: - Never won a ring, primarily played for a franchise that showed flashes but never did much (NY and SEA) - Remembered for the beauty of their game (Melo's pretty jumper and KGJ's perfect swing) - Prolific scorers but never the best scorer in the league
@thepoy94045 ай бұрын
I understand what you're trying to say but the biggest differences are Griffey was considered the best player in the league for multiple years he was a great defensive player and baseball is more of a team game so it doesn't matter how great you are you can only control so much i.e Mike Trout so not winning a ring in baseball is looked at completely different.

I thought KD, MJ and Dirk are definitely top 3 before watching this video. CP3 is good, but top 3 is way too high. Plus I don't understand why some people always say Melo has the prettiest jump shot ever. It's from textbook of course, but players like Kobe, MJ and T-Mac who have beautiful fadeaway shot skill are much more aesthetically pleasing to watch IMO. Not to mention Melo has a really big butt. My order is: 1. either MJ or KD depends on your focus on efficiency or production 2. MJ or KD 3. Dirk 4. Kobe 5. Adrian Dantley (most underrated one) 6. Kawhi 7. Bird 8. Gervin (also underrated) 9. CP3 10. Melo (overrated, took too many shots w/ low efficiency)

Very good list. However, KD has played on super stacked teams his entire career. Easier to be efficient when defenses can't focus on just stopping you. MJ, Dirk and Kawhi are all above KD as mid range shooters, IMO. Dantley might be too, but I was too young to watch him play.
@micaelkandolo2263 ай бұрын
The only time Kawhi didn't play with Stars was in Toronto. How can u say young okc was stacked, kd was carrying that team. If u say that Mj bulls was stacked too

1. MJ (kd has a case) 2. KD 3. Kobe (best difficult shot maker here shot league average or above in his prime in the most difficult era to score on the highest volume) 4. Dirk 5. Kawhi 6. Cp3 (you can put them on any order but dirk had better volume and longevity, cp3 inst higher cause it didnt lead to a chip which he had chances to win). 7. Kg (wanted him to be higher but the drop which was his mid range after his prime doesnt sit right, he wasnt dominant as scorer as the guys ahead). 8. Bird. 9. Melo (one is more efficient but less difficult shots, the other made more on harder difficultly, you can decide on either one but birds did led to winning cant say that for melo. 10. Hakkem (the goat mid ranger shooter by a center and greatest post player very underrated)
