Jupe is the most complex character in the whole film. Trauma, hubris, pity, desperation, manipulation, tragedy, all rolled into one.

Right! It makes me wonder if he's going to tackle Asian stories in the modern world next. They are so tight lipped about their true anguishes and hiding deep wounds it's killing their societies.
@apollocobain8363

I kind of agree. The character is complex enough to feel under explored since the film focuses mostly on OJ and Em. Bare with me a moment...the character was a child star + monkey + his own theme park. He turns his childhood trauma into a career but winds up dying and destroying some families who came to his theme park. Does that remind you of anyone in real life? I think naming one character "OJ" in a film that wants to talk about exploitation is an obvious reference to OJ Simpson. The character "OJ" has nothing in common with OJ Simpson. Jupe on the other hand has many elements of another major figure of the 1990s. One who was alleged a victim before he became a victimizer. I also think that audiences are so conscious of race that they will never see that connection. I'm not entirely sure that Peele is conscious of it. There are rules in Hollywood, one of which is you don't make movies about certain things like the specific ways animals, children and women get exploited by some people. Peele does a great job of evoking these things but like the clouds in this film, you can see it or not see it. The character of Jupe is the most curious because we get just enough of him to make us wonder about the rest. People have compared the character to the real life actor who was in the Indian Jones series, Ke Huy Quan. I think that comparison comes from focusing on the race of the actors/character. If you ignore race you get a different answer; one that seems a much closer fit.

I just saw NOPE on a giant IMAX screen and I felt nothing but childlike wonder and astonishment at this accomplishment of a film. I was entirely captivated by the UFO, the hidden meanings in things, the many layers of the film that you sort of talk about and discuss long after the credits roll. I am entirely entranced by how fantastic this world is that Peele created and I can't wait to buy this on 4K DVD so I can re-watch it over and over, it is that good. Maybe a once in a lifetime sort of film. 11 out of 10. I'm not even joking. Go see it now! What are you waiting for. Stop reading this KZfaq comment and go see NOPE on the biggest screen you can find!

I've yet to see the film but one of the few criticisms I seem to hear / read about is that the film may have too many layers? And that, if the film focused on just a few of these layers, it would be better. As you have seen the film, is the above comment a fair one?
@kintsugikame
@kintsugikame 2 жыл бұрын
@@McD5791 nah, I think people were just expecting a traditional horror movie and weren’t happy with how it turned out. it has nothing to do with the amount of layers it had, people just wanted to get scared and were disappointed by the third act. but this kinda goes in line with Jordan’s initial words in this video about having an inviting space for people who don’t like to watch scary movies. I think it was overall a beautiful film.

It still always blows my mind just how much effort goes into making one movie. All those people standing around... the planning, carrying objects, moving locations, editing, retakes, getting the sounds perfect... even the horses who have to do scenes over and over... they're all putting so much energy for months and months to create like 1-2 hours of entertainment. As a little kid, I always thought a movie was like a school play... except with one person with a camera filming everything. So naive lol

I just saw NOPE like 2 hours ago and I loved it. I think I’ll love anything Jordan puts out because I know it’ll just make my brain do gymnastics. He’s definitely redefining horror in a way that doesn’t really make me walk away terrified, but he makes me think. All these deeper meanings and hidden message’s. That’s what I like. I love that he let Keke just be herself on camera. I heard him say in a previous interview that someone like Emerald Haywood was missing on the big screen and that couldn’t be more true. Keke and Emerald are one in the same and I don’t know, I feel like other directors would kind of mask Keke’s personality but Jordan embraced it. I’ll never look at clouds the same. ☁️

The last line about us all having a fear of being near a UFO or extraterrestrial from an early age resonated with me. I just don't think everyone had that fear as a kid. I thought it was pretty neat that most of the jumpscares weren't actually that dangerous, their threat was superficial, the really scary parts of the film, where people are actually in danger/harm's way, we were shown pretty directly, made to look very personal and discomforting.

Somehow, despite having seen Jordan's other movies, I did not expect it to get as horrific at times as it did here! The movie plays into one of my biggest fears, which is seeing something so beyond what I consider reality that it just kind of breaks your brain. The awe and smallness (and a HEALTHY dose of terror) conveyed in the scenes with the UFO are exactly how I'd imagine an experience like that would be. Might be my favorite Peele movie!

I was 20 minutes late into the theater, had 0 knowledge and expectation, but glad to found out that the plot and characters are easy to follow. This film is my favorite take on the UFO genre. I was scared how it's gonna follow after the creature reveal (because reveal can lose suspence) but I was so invested with the characters, and the fact the film gives you multiple genre that feels complete really satisfy my soul. Love the creature's design. Love that it's not human-looking, that it doesn't resemble anything earthly, and I don't recall having seen a creature design like that. Really tells you that it's not of this world. Definitely would give multiple watch because the dopamine I get after watching Nope is crazy good. It's by far my most favorite film of this year.

Peele’s films introduced me to thriller semi horror films that I really enjoy now. I’ve always steered away from the horror genre but I’ve always been interested in films that somewhat bothers the mind. Just watched nope and it’s the perfect mix of different genres.

I love that people didn't like OJ as a character. He's not supposed to be likeable, nor does he care to be liked. The guy is a cowboy! Not every main character needs to be Ethan Hunt or James Bond...

Y'all are so lucky to get movies so soon. I'll have to wait over a month before I can see this too. South Korea is even getting it before the U.S., apparently, so I don't know why Japan takes forever. I guess I should just be glad we're getting it at all. I don't think we would be if Get Out and Us didn't hit. But I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

I’ve seen nope like 3 different times and every single one of those times it felt like I was watching it all over again,seeing the alien and how it did stoke awe but fear is what I really like about it,I’m such a horror fanatic and grown immune to them but this,this was the first one where it had me hold my breath but couldn’t look away because how scared it made me feel

I saw this movie with my boyfriend and at first we were bummed that we got seats close to the screen (meaning we had to look up). But i think it actually elevated and immersed us more, since we had to crane our necks upwards it felt like we were looking up into the sky like the characters

Saw it yesterday. 9.5 out of 10. Only drop for the score would be the final part of the ending. The plan and the filming of the whole movie is phenomenal, but the solution at the end felt a little ok. But, I didnt make the movie, and it worked. Overall, amazing movie. Jordan Peele is an amazing director, and all the actors in this and his other movies are great

Jupe character really sticks with me after the credit. Something about his story arc just really fucks you up. Em and OJ arc is just a battle between alien and human. Jupe is soul of the story.
