That’s the most beautiful steam locomotive I have ever seen. 611 is The Queen Of Steam.

Awesome! I grew up 15 miles south of Charlottesville, and they ran this train by our house a few times, in 70’s and 80’s. We could hear it from mikes away.

Norfolk & western 611 is my first favorite streamlined steam locomotive.

The 611 blows 4449 out of the water! 611’s the Queen because she is modern, burns coal like other steamers, streamlined, powerful, and beautiful! 611 is my favorite because of how awesome she looks! She holds a lot of power in her belly, and has exquisite beauty, complete with speed of over 100 MPH!

Nice to see the old girl still in action. I got to see her in person about thirty-five years ago, and got to stand in the cab and have my picture taken by my folks. I hope I can take my son to see her for himself one day.

The Northfolk and Western Railway Class J (611 series) is one of the heaviest 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive, which runs on the Trans-Continental Railroad. At the middle of the track, the sound of the steam whistle blew several times... The train travels along the cliffs and down to the slopes... At the end of the film, the 611 steam locomotive gave a resounding whistle, like the train was almost near to the level crossing, as it rumbles to the curves...

Thank you for posting this video!. This shows rail cars that I've viewed here in eastern CO and if the president and chief bottle washer for AMTRAK has his way these beautiful cars will not be allowed to congregate like this again. He has declared in the end of March, 2018 that AMTRAK will not move these cars or sponsor any tour be they one way or round trip, assist any group in a tour because it's not profitable, wastes time, slows down train movements and a few other lame excuses. Several owners have already put their rail cars up for sale or put notice out that their cars will no longer be up for lease. I hope that N & W "J" #611 will continue to operate on captive rails (N.S. owned rails and UP FEF3 #844 will stay active on Union Pacific owned right of way) As for several other locomotives, unless AMTRAK chiefs come to their senses, their time to run is now past. Again, thanks for this video.

Just gonna point this out N&W 611 pulls 20 car excursion by itself.. UP 4014 & 844 pulls 12 car excursion ether 611 is stronger than we thought or UP really dont wanna stress out and just babies their locomotives

Union Pacific needs to buy out these small railway group and run steam engines under there operation and on there railroad tracks so Amtrak will stop moaning. They would still keep original paint jobs though, they wouldn't become UP. Amtrak is stupid

Beautiful locomotive and a great video! The first time that I ever saw this loco was in the "I Love Toy Trains" series when I was one or two, and I have loved the 611 ever since. Smart looking consist; is the train still operational or are they a part of a mainline excursion?
