I have a Stihl fs74 trimmer that is ~30yrs old. Last few years it was not running well. Pretty sure the diaphragm was shot, but put a whole new carb on it last year, and it ran pretty good out of the box. But this year I had the same problem as described in the this video - runs but quits at idle after < 1min. So followed the tuning recommended by adjusting the Low jet screw to give it a bit more gas at idle. Got it running perfectly again!! Thanks for these video's you put up, they are super clear & very well done. And yes btw... I would highly recommended Stihl. They make great power tools.

I used a cut off wheel cut slots in the screws 1/4 turn and it worked fine, I wound up turning the screw close to the engine 1/4 and the outside screw about 1/3 of a turn. idles good going from idle to full throttle it's smooth and fast . I own an FS-91R and love it. It really helps with the thicker SE Louisiana grass. (Dat torque!) I have a larger yard too so the extra fuel capacity ensures I don’t have to go back to my shed to refuel. It is heavy, but I added a Darwin’s Grip and a speed feed to make the job easy. Plus I’m a big guy so weight isn’t and issue. The factory Stihl head is ok for a tap and go but the Speedfeed is way easier to re-spool. Echo has Stihl in that department. I figured I spend a little more ($300 new) for a unit I can maintain for a decade or more rather than a cheapo unit that will last a couple of seasons. I contemplated the FS-94 as an alternative but I figured the extra torque would be better for the pole saw attachment or brush cutting when I needed it.

I had a STIHL FS56 RC trimmer too. I got it on July of 2015. But I had to sell it year on August. Because we moved to South Carolina. And the private gated community I live in. They not really any grass there except for small parts. And plus since it’s a very quiet community people don’t like gas equipments. The only gas equipments I see are when the maintenance people in our community are trimming grass and weeds. And two of my neighbors have gas power leaf blowers. But thankfully since I work for maintenance at our golf course I still get to use gas power equipments there.

The only dealer we have in our town is Stihl so that's what I've been buying for 28 years. I've probably bought 20 Stihl power tools. I Think 19 of them have had carburetor issues. If there was another dealer I would go there. They are also expensive and rarely go on sale. I've tried taking some back for warranty and they never honor it, just make excuses. You Tube has been a big help with maintenance. I've been doing a lot of it myself. I own a landscape maintenance business.

I own several chainsaws, blowers and weedeaters made by Stihl. They are reliable, durable and require little service as a homeowner with 3.5 acres to cut and trim. As a retired automotive technician I find it no more problem to service than anything else I've owned. Never been back to the dealer for service. Most problems are fuel related and I dump mine at the end of the season and only use premium fuel. Works for me.

Well I just bought a FS 56 for 200$ new, and not long ago I bought Echo 2320 for the same. So far running both The Echo has a better balance a couple inch's longer shaft. I would say the Stihl has more torque an is more stable on the back of a truck. Echo has a pretty strong motor for 21cc though were as you have a bit heftier motor on the Sthil at 27cc. So far happy to have both my Kawasaki ktf27b has seized up. I took the spark plub out an could see metal all round the piston moving. Depends where you buy it from and your skill level. Stihl only sold at dealers that will start and adjust run it first. It wasn't worth much trimming being too awkward but was a terror to clear and underbrush with. Cut stuff 3 and 4 inches through in a blink from the back side. Wind it up and hold on. Never did break the shaft or gears but the Echo convertible was a lot more versatile.

@Arsene Lupin III I don't blame you one bit. If they can't breathe, they can't breathe. I've never had that problem but have had neighbors that have and I've been the maintenance man on others that have so I understand perfectly. My MS440 Magnum saw just had one exhaust outlet. Now it has 2. Anything can be improved upon, don't care what it is. YOU are the one that has to use it and there's no need for any more boat anchors. Gopher it and BLESSINGS 2 U!

@Arsene Lupin III Sounds like the price was right. Mine was 35+ years ago and bought new. Now I gave all my 2-cycle stuff to my son-in-law and we have 2 battery trimmers. They're not nearly as good as the 2-cycles but when you get geezerish you sometimes have to do something different.

I owning nothing but Stihl. At 49, I have plenty of time behind saws, trimmers, blowers, edgers. Stihl has always been my go to, I have owned Echos before and yes they are good. As a former service mgr/mechanic I found Husqvarnas hard to service (trained on Stihl), Stihl and Echo were easiest, but for quite a while had no dealer in the area (Echo) even though they were based/made about 100 miles from here. Now I'm more inclined to go with Echo as they keep their units more basic. Stihl and Husqvarna have gone to more "style/design" which IMHO makes them more complicated to get into for service. Looking pretty hanging on the wall, or sitting on the bench doesn't mean much to me.

My fix was on the ignition coil at the rubber part at the top of the spark plug there is a black rubber wire that pushes into the backside of it and it must have gotten pulled away far enough for the spark not to travel to it so I pushed it back up the neck at the back and it works 100% the spark needed to connect closer to this spring inside the rubber head

I have a very similar trimmer, I believe an FS 70. The setup is nearly identical to yours, but maybe just a size or two different. Anyway, I have fresh gas in. It starts and idles fine, but when trying to accelerate over 1/3-1/2 throttle, it tries to bog down and die. I tried turning the high screw up and down but seems to make no difference. It's only 4-5 years old and not used very hard. What could be the issue? I ran it only a week or two earlier and it was fine then. Thanks!
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 2 жыл бұрын
for bogging on during acceleration, I would turn the L screw instead half a turn counter clockwise instead. The High screw is for when it doesn't want to die at full throttle.
