J S this is a major part of “ what’s wrong with society”, being normal, debt for keeping up with the Jones’ isn’t the answer, relying on the gov isn’t the answer, no plan for the future means you have no future! This is why we have one car ( mini van) a utility trailer and a home, we have started heating with wood (that we gather) vegetables that we grow, and rely on pedal power when ever possible. I don’t drive 150 miles round trip to work anymore, and my wife doesn’t need a car, almost everything is local. Society says you need this for your house, heat, a source of water, sewage, and electricity. Now explain how the Amish can live in our societies, it is simple... they are willing to put in the work to maintain their lifestyle, and produce more for less, they are famous for stretching a dollar, and not building debt. So if they can do it then we can at least live within our limits. And please never ever call me normal, I would never want to be like the rest of society financially or otherwise... if we were all normal (same) this world would be mighty boring, without, humor, controversy, or even a balance to society. I believe that society needs to change, and grasp a firm grip in reality, because unless we start living with the basic needs in mind, then we will never save a dime!

This is one of my favorite KZfaq videos in my whole life. I was the weird one always. And many people have judged me. But being weird (studying "unimportant" stuffs, not going to parties or drinking at all) helped me go to one of the best universities in my country. It's not always easy to be not "normal" because we are social beings, and it hurts when people judge you, but the worst is that it makes you sceptical about yourself and lose self-confidence. Thanks for the great video Dave for validating my path. Love, from South Korean 21 young woman!!!

My mother inspired me financially with her minimalist lifestyle, but what impacted me most wasn't anything she said to me, but what others said of her. When she was a young hotshot accountant/CFO/CTO(her boss was really stingy and she was really competent), other co-workers would see her pull up in her cheap 2004 Toyota into a lot full of expensive new cars owned by her subordinates... only for the front desk receptionist to remind her on the way in and on the way out that she had multiple unclaimed paychecks just standing by for collection. "Oh, right," she would always say. "I'll grab them later." At the time, I thought this was the ultimate flex, and even now, I still think so.

I discovered debt free at 21 my ex threw me into a whack of credit debt. After we broke up I moved home to fix my situation. Paid off 10,000 in credit debt, saved to pay for college in cash. Paid for my car in cash. Used an inheritance well for a down payment on a home. Now I'm 25 and my only debt is my mortgage. I'm never going to give to worry about being in the struggle of a list of people you owe money to again. Cannot wait to have my house paid off!

Personal experience, I was so close to sign a $700 car payment for 6 yrs two years ago, had a choice between a preowned and older car same model but then I realised I'd he broke with the preowned just so I can show off and feel successful or that I'm somebody important so I went for the older model with plenty of life left in the car very reliable and I get to keep money in my pocket for saving, investments, and spend every now and then. The best part, able to rent my own place with my brother. Yep I'm glad I declined the expensive, sporty car :)

i wish i had seen your videos years ago in 2018 when i had a lot of money and was living at home saving 80% of my cheques most of the time. i wish i knew more about investing and saving smartly. i was going through such a rough time towards the end of that year and ended up homeless the following year with barely any money in my account. letting my emotions control my money caused me to be financial insecure right now and i take full responsibility for that. i am awakening everyday. i am learning everyday and doing what i need to do to get back on track. for the longest time, i couldn't get my savings higher than $1500. now i have saved up $3000 on top of that in just two months working minimum wage jobs. i am nowhere where i need to be financially but i don' t feel as stressed as i was before. still working on changing my path in life. i want to go back to school and get a degree, start a career, start a business, invest and save more, have a car, a house, no debt. but i recognize i have to start small and work my way up. i will be successful.

Thanks Dave, love the message! I keep seeing people I know who have no money spending money on ridiculous houses and condos but I know they have no way to pay for them. They try to show off, but they don’t have the money to do it.

In today's times, normality and sound logic is consider abnormal. Morality and logic is against the societies way of thinking. Why is it that everywhere you look, all you being told to buy stuff you can afford because you are going to save ? This should be illegal. Lack of responsibility and media brainwashing has this result on today's society. If you live beyond your means and beyond what you can afford, you will be broke and will become just another statistic ! I am glad for people like Dave who has morals, wisdom and experience to share with anyone who is willing to listen, learn and CHANGE FOR BETTER. Thank you Dave

I have taken up and perfected extreme couponing to donate for charity. I also help family members and friends. When someone looks to me for help, I give them a bag of soap, deodorant and toothpaste. Anyone who asks me for money is denied. I tell them that I am not a bank. I was the bank and am still waiting on them to pay me back years later. I am debt free and on my way to paying off my house. No one gets what I worked hard for just because they want what I have.

,***** Why would I want to "earn" cash back when NOT paying at all is the point of couponing. I get stuff for free, near free, or at a profit. Then I donate it for the tax write off and have received a huge tax return. This way it is a triple win. Last year I brought home over $100,000 thousand in merchandise from stores. I made $ 89,000 on my real job, spent only on my monthly bills and paid down my mortgage. This is NOT a hobby, this is a second job that will hopefully pay off my mortgage in less than 5 years. I could never earn enough "cash back" to equal what I do with couponing.

***** My secret is that I taught myself. I spent the time to learn how, to perfect it and to profit on it while helping others. I did not wait for someone to show me how.

So much truth. This verse was in my head the whole time I was listening. "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" 1 Peter 2:9

Just started watching your videos about 2 weeks ago. I just finished total money makeover. I'm 30 years old and the only debt I have is my mortgage. I had already completed your baby steps before I knew what baby steps were. I just always thought not having a bunch of debt was common sense but I watch your videos and realize how dumb people are. I enjoy your content.

My husband and I are proud to be the weird ones. No credit card debt. We just have home mortgage and one car payment at a time that is technically "debt". We will be working on the mortgage and car payment once our house repairs are done...and oh, the house repairs all paid with saved money. No need for added loans just to get something fixed.
