I find doing abstract more freeing. ❤ to play with colors & design. Interesting to see Rockwell's take on abstract. I USED to find abstract as a silly waste of paint, etc. Until i discovered the therapeutic FUN of creating ANY kind of art. 😊Discover the joy!!

I started out as a REALISTIC artist. Now, leaning towards fluid painting with realistic touches & digital ❤ ROCKWELL's Realism seems more like work. ❣️ It. Fluid painting can be time consuming, if u mix your paints first. But, a non "artist", newbie can have fun with it. Good stepping stone.

Very good lecture. Thank you so much for posting this. Many people have trouble talking about ab-ex and representational (especially commercial) art together without putting down one or the other. Ms. Plunkett has done a great job of approaching these contrasting types of art in way that is knowledgeable and respectful to the artists and their art forms. It’s a shame in my view that both of these fascinating realms of art are often at odds with each other when discussed by educators and critics. But you’ve done a great job of presenting this discussion while keeping space enough to appreciate both at once. Kudos and thank you again.

If I'm not mistaken the 'private collection' that the lecturer alludes to is that of Steven Spielberg. Supposedly, it is Spielberg's favorite Rockwell painting of the 15-20 paintings by Rockwell that he owns.

I love listening to a good curator! Some are great, some are terrible. Isn't it weird how it seems "trends" exist in how art is "talked" about!! THAT actually has a style also! I guess the entire world is just a moving, morphing, algorithm of reactions and actions. It just changes all the time! How we see things, how we think about them. That word "Zeitgeist"..... Is everything.

Really informative lecture, but I agree with a much earlier comment that the camera should have focussed on the actual art works described and not the curator. However, she is completely brilliant as was Norman Rockwell

Does nobody get how awesome his abstract painting is? He did drip it on like pollock.

That first painting. The first thing I noticed was how close the man in the painting is to the one he's looking at. As if he's not taking in the entire image and only focusing on a small enclosed area. Which seems counterproductive for such a large, busy painting with no repetition.

Watch this in 2020 and feel a little worried when the curator coughed without a real reason. 😐
