I had the privilege of seeing the Doobie Brothers in 1980 in Cincinnati, Ohio at Riverfront Coliseum. What a great show. Was probably the best live performance of any band I have ever seen; so pure, clean, and smooth. Pat is a wonderful and underrated guitarist, and seems like such a nice guy. Thanks for sharing this - very cool video.

Dan - I fully agree ! ! Saw them in Baltimore Civic Center in May 1974 and will NEVER FORGET the musicianship of The Doobies (when they had 2 drummers) and 2 great guitarists in Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston... Amazing show.

From every interview I've seen or heard, Patrick is the real deal, down to earth guy, whose fame and fortune has not affected him. The type of guy you would love to meet and have a beer with!

I met both him and his wife Christine at the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee back in 2003. Like you said, he is the real deal and very down to earth. And they both ride motorcycles too!

An incredible guitarist, singer, writer, and a gentleman. Been listening to him since I was a kid in the 70’s. Love you too, Norm. You’re absolutely the greatest in the business and I’m glad you have recovered well from your downtime.

First picking song I ever learned. Had the complete Doobie Brothers song book. Did not know about tabs at the time but I wanted to play it as written. Took me ages to decipher because I couldn't read music. Today with the Internet, it's so easy, so simple. Anyway, thank you so much Pat, you're one of my guitar hero. And thank you to Norman and the entire crew. You guys are the holy graal of guitar shop, always gathering real legends between your walls

Hey! Nice to get your reply.Yeah..what a great guitarist Chet was..influenced millions of other guitarists along the way, too..and a truly nice guy. I actually got a surpise only a few minutes ago: a young 14 yr old guitarist in the UK I have befriended has been loving the stuff I've been sending him about "guitarists who came before" (including Chet) and he wrote to me saying he recently spotted a "Country Gentleman" in a guitar shop in England! There's hope for the younger generation yet! LOL

Patrick, in the rare chance you happen to read this I want to let you know I've really learning from you over the last 40 years. That said, I've pretty much got this song down but would like to know if this is something you came up with or does it have a name? Also, how many times did you play it until you could play it fairly flawlessly? Many thanks! Rip

Typical with good players, when you think about it too much its more difficult, esp when he says he doesnt' know if he can play this part or not. When you put it on cruise control is just flows right out.
