i'm 41yo, i always like to see switch/fakie mongo. i'm trying to learn to push regular switch just for the strength balance, but i prefer to push mongo switch. if you look back to old footage through the '90s you'll see so many favorite pros pushing mongo switch/fakie. it's a bit rarer to see it these days, but it's always nice to see it.

I totally agree, when its done well it looks so cool. Plus it’s nice to instantly know if a trick is switch without having to recall the skater’s stance

@@videoman9170 it's not a small list of examples either, all your favorite skaters' favorite skaters. it was the default at the time, and i kinda wonder why it fell out of favor with so many. kalis is a good example of someone who always did it, and still does. so, it's a bit of a throwback or rarity now but there are definitely big name modern pros that still do it.

I have to agree. I miss the switch mongo. I never had an issue with how it looked. I learned to push normal, while skating switch, in order to gain comfort in that stance. But when I see Tiago break out the switch mongo, I get nostalgic for old Stevie Williams clips.

I love skateboarding as well and I like mongo, I think I do push mongo at times, but I do enjoy seeing different people style mongo pushing. Some people pull it off with good style. 🙏🏽🛹🫶🏽🎨💯

Oh man! Unreal. I had hoped you would answer my question but it floored me when i heard my name in the video! Felt you tube famous for a second 😂. Thank you for your help! Im definately skating just for fun but I want to solidify fundementals and it always bothered me that people were so nasty back in the day about my pushing mongo. If your still winning skate whats it matter? Lol. But all jokes aside i feel like its helpful to learn both. It makes me feel more balanced on my board to be more of an ambidextrous skater, which i feel is kinda the point of riding switch. Plus skogging is fun and helpful sometimes too! Thanks again Norman I look out for your vids weekly. Keep 'em coming.

You’ve got the right idea. If you’re having fun and progressing, you don’t need to change anything. I’ll talk more about it in a video soon. Thanks for watching, commenting 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾

I got a great switch push now thanks to pushing mongo as a kid. Jeremy Wray's trick tips was the only thing I had to learn with so I just did whatever felt right and mongo lets you tic tac turn especially with a shitty Kmart board.

My switch push is definately on point cuz of pushing Mongo. Lol. Hilarious that I have to try so hard in my regular stance. I think it's finally starting to click though. I've been acting like I'm sitting on a little stool when I lean push backside and its helped so much. Lean pushing is so important to a fluid line and I've seen literally one tutorial that has ever touched on it and it was for a fraction of the video. Hope Norman has something good on that topic too.

When I skated as a kid in the 90's people use to call mongo "sh*t footed". I started skating that way but quickly changed lol. I also find it less stable since you are further back on the board from a perspective of where your momentum is going. You also have now added another foot shift because when you push the "standard way" it's your back foot that is pushing so you can just put your foot right on the tail and quickly set up for a trick, or navigate over cracks and other obstacles. When you push mongo you have to shift you back foot back to the tail and then off the tail as you come in and out of pushing, not efficient and sets you up to be off balance. I use the same technique when skating switch, if you can't push standard with switch don't succumb to mongo, practice your switch pushing. When it comes to skating fakie or nollie, sometimes I will push mongo if I need to set up for a trick quickly because I can immediately put my foot on the nose/tail. So it's about being able to set up for the trick quickly. If I have plenty of time then I will just push standard in regular or switch position depending on the stance I'm going to be doing the trick in. You'd be surprised how much board control you gain by being able to push, ride, and stand in all these different ways. However don't take shortcuts and push mongo just because you're used to it now, use it when it makes sense but most of the time standard pushing in the appropriate stance is going to be the better option.

Hi Norman. I mostly skate flat, but today I went to skatepark and tried to do Ollie in the lower part of the ramp. I made several successful attempts, but I had many scary moments as well. It feels for me that it is so easier to slam in transition just because the board can accelerate faster and slip out from under you. Will it always be this dangerous or is it just skill issue? I want to practice transition but this fear and constant feeling of unstable board really bothers me
