The National Museum of Denmark (Nationalmuseet) in Copenhagen is Denmark's largest museum of cultural history, comprising the histories of Danish and foreign cultures, alike.

The museum's main building is located a short distance from Strøget at the center of Copenhagen. It contains exhibits from around the world, from Greenland to South America. Additionally, the museum sponsors SILA - The Greenland Research Center at the National Museum of Denmark to further archaeological and anthropological research in Greenland. The museum covers 14,000 years of Danish history, from the reindeer-hunters of the Ice Age, Vikings, and works of religious art from the Middle Ages, when the church was highly significant in Danish life. Danish coins from Viking times to the present and coins from ancient Rome and Greece, as well as examples of the coinage and currencies of other cultures, are exhibited also. The National Museum keeps Denmark's largest and most varied collection of objects from the ancient cultures of Greece and Italy, the Near East and Egypt. For example, it holds a collection of objects that were retrieved during the Danish excavation of Tell Shemshara in Iraq in 1957.

The sculpture at 4:06 is called Trundholmsvognen, also called solvognen, meaning the Sun wagon in english. It's dated to about 1350, late bronze age. The sun wagon was a central part of bronze age beliefs. they believed the sun was carried across the sky by different creatures depending on the time of day. for example, during night, a snake carried the sun across the underworld, while a fish brough the sun up from the underworld into the sky in the morning, and later the horse would take over and so on. The danish guy who found this sculpture in 1902 thought it was an old toy and let his son play with it until he found out what it was

I've been to Nationalmuseet a couple of times . It is probably one of the most underrated museums in the world , and certainly the best I have seen of its kind , that is for Nordic Bronze Age , Iron Age and Viking artefacts.

I would watch hours of artifacts and knowledge about them, the site they came from and any experimental archaeology about them. I get a closer connection through the objects than the writing’s. I envy those who get to handle things no hand has touched for thousands of years❤

I recently found a macehead/ top of a war club in my local river in Scotland. Totally spirit led as I don't remember picking it up in among some of the other what I believe are stone age tools. Some are debatable but this one isn't...it's a serious piece of amazing stoneworking.

@@zeropointconsciousness I am so envious of you right now LOL. But it’s in a good way. What an amazing discovery. Be sure to get plenty of photos and try to use your phone to gps the location. I am guessing you must be around Aberdeenshire? So much Neolithic and early Bronze Age activity in the area. Second guess would be the south side of the river and all it’s contribute water sheds. I hope you continue to explore and discover and then share your thoughts. Thank you.😊💚🐢

Don't miss out Historiska Museet in Stockholm. Covers both the stone age, bronze age and of course the viking age. Especially the Gold Room are in a class of its own. Literally tons of treasures, mostly gold and silver from all over the world that have ended up in Swedish soil during the bronze and viking age aswell as very impressive local craftsmanship with various functions.

In my family, I am the white sheep :). I have always felt more of a calling from the Elder Futhark and the older Nordic tradition than my Cherokee roots (which my big sister follows). Fun fact about the "sexy" skirt. When it was found, it didn't sit well with the religious climate in Denmark and it was seen as "nothing a good danish woman would wear" so it was hidden in a box for allmost 50 years, if I remember correctly

You might be interested in the Viking museum in York (Yorvik Viking Centre). Not as broad as the one in Copenhagen, but they cover how things like how coins were made and such. Back when I visited it, there were volunteers reinacting old crafts and such. I was really impressed to see that the vikings already knew Nitriding (hardening steel with nitrogen). We now think they used grinded down antlers for that. Same as the Ulfberth swords (made of crucible steel with high carbon content, much like the tool steel we have today, probably obtained by middle east trade), this technique only was reinvented much later. Nitriding even only in the 20th century.

Wonderful video! Museums are some of my favorite places to visit and I'm definitely open to you doing more tours. I have always preferred Prehistory and the Bronze and Iron Ages, more than any other time. The bronze Age was amazing and those are some beautiful artifacts. And was that literally a glass drinking horn I saw? It's beautiful. Also, I too get that tingling sensation when I'm around ancient artifacts and places, and I feel that we get this powerful feeling because of the connection we have with our ancient ancestors. It literally gives me energy and I consider it to be an actual form of power in its own right. Ancestral power. Thank you so much for showing us this museum. So many other museums would have a problem with you recording inside, but this place seemed alright with it. After all, it is free advertisement, right?! 😂
