Amazon workers have launched a new union drive in Garner, North Carolina. Workers say they face 10+ hour shifts with vindictive managers in an unbearably hot warehouse. Amazon pays so little that some sleep in their cars. They’re organizing for justice with Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment.

*I wish there was a more organized apparatus to involve consumers/citizens, and fellow Union brothers and sisters in supporting these actions.* These greedy employers need to not only see their workers walk out, but hundreds or thousands of consumers show up to support them. The only way this works is if we stick together, across industries and disciplines, and show *SOLIDARITY as a CLASS.* God knows the rich have solidarity. Now we need workers to do the same. Amazon workers in the Bellmawr, NJ warehouse also walked out today to protest the closing of the facility and forced relocation that comes with it. Some casino workers in NJ are also striking today.

All it takes is a national boycott. If even 5 million people would stop shopping on Amazon for 30 days, they'd agree to unionize all their locations! But it would take someone famous & very well liked to head up the effort. Not a politician, they'd end up getting sued. Someone people respect & listen to & who could convince them to forego the convenience of using Amazon temporarily in order to help the union efforts across the country. But admittedly, I can't think of who that should be.

I worked for Amazon for two years (SAT2 - central Texas, for anyone unfamiliar). I fully sympathize with Albert Elliott. When I first started there back in late 2016, it did not feel so bad. Work was somewhat stable but not overbearing, though I did buy into that pitch about the holiday rush - yes, it really is that bad, and it kept getting worse after my first year of it. At the time, they did not write us up for underperforming - or at least my team supervisor did not for me - but that BS was really getting ramped during my second year there. Luckily for me, I was able to stay in a role that I excelled in (and admittedly, I am stretching the definition of "excel" a bit here), so I managed to avoid the worst of it...but I saw other good ones falls...and sometimes literally. I witnessed so much of what was only going to get worse at Amazon - and pretty much every business, especially corporate-owned ones - that I do not regret when I left in late 2018, and my timing ended up being right when they announced the $15/hr increase...which I could clearly see was a blatant move to head off Bernie Sanders' Stop B.E.Z.O.S. Act (they also took away a lot of "financial options" with that raise, so I knew that it was a way to render that raise insufficient). Before my time at Amazon, I worked in an abusive work environment for five years. I was younger and particularly stupid then, and my dumb @$$ thought that I could somehow turn certain things around. That time taught me to never trust a business again. My two years at Amazon annihilated what little of my conservative leanings - i.e. being anti-union - remained. May New York and North Carolina be *far* from the last. And after Amazon...Walmart.

The union movement must move forward, must gather strength, must gather more numbers! After 30 years of Democratic Leadership, by 1950 45% of the country belonged to a union! The middle class was born and life was good. It takes time and hard work, but the payoff is well worth it! I am comfortably retired on a union pension today.

I only know of Dan Price, CEO of Gravity. Unfortunately, the rot of greed has infected our world and is destroying it. The corrupt are running this country and too many greedy, insatiably money hungry, wealth hoarding monster corporations exploit, manipulate and enslave their employees. Proving unions are absolutely needed. The more money these monster corporations gain, the hungrier they grow; never to be satisfied. They’re pathetic. I’m grateful for all my blessings. Living frugally within my means, being a minimalist and buying only the necessities: food and shelter, I retired comfortably and happily left the rat race workforce debt free and stress free. Working in healthcare was extremely fast paced, demanding and stressful for me. As a retiree I can now slow down, breathe, relax and de-stress. Enjoy my morning coffee in peace, play and cuddle time with our dogs and sweet cats, spa day(small bin and water for our tortoise to soak in) with our turtle, swinging in our backyard patio hammock. Connect with family and friends; sharing delicious food with good company just can’t be beat. It’s comforting to have the cash to buy what I need when I need it. Retirement is good. Love and blessings to you. Stay safe.

The South was born out of an environment of free labor for over two centuries. With reconstruction done away with, it then put blacks into slavery lite with Jim Crow. From there followed cheap labor and legal slave labor. Many of the world largest corporations have moved there. Wealth has always chased cheap labor. This is no different. The capitalistic workplace, with some exceptions, is not democratic. Good luck to these guys.

I disagree with the metal detector issue because when that goes off then they pull you aside it only takes not even a minute to check your stuff and your out the door I've been through it several times at my building. The heat definitely is an issue.. they're back at doing the make rate but it's hard to do for new people because it is so hot in there people are dripping sweat. The building I was at had fans we were all fine the new building that I just relocated to they don't have any fans nothing the only AC you feel is the AC when you walk in the door once you get on the floor forget about it. Security is nice and cool to off all day but the workers the ones in there busting ass we're dripping sweat. The food or the gas issue be realistic go get a loaf of bread get some lunch meat get some fruit and some snacks bring your lunch everyday. Regarding the doctor's notes, that is 100% true but think about it. If you take off all the time at any other job well they're going to end up terminating you. Amazon gives us 48 hours of PTO that is almost 5 days paid off. Amazon gives us 80 hrs of upt that is unpaid time off, that's a total of eight days off. A lot of companies don't give vacation the longer you stay the more vacation you get your first year you get 40 hours of vacation. So a total of 12 days that they give you that you can use whenever you accrue the time. Most jobs don't allow you that many days off a year so I personally think this argument is ridiculous. And she is wrong about the medical leave which is unpaid time because the first 7 days is unpaid the second week you will get paid 60% of your pay. So if you have say 3 weeks of medical leave the first 7 days is unpaid but those other two weeks you will get 60% each week of your pay. It says Amazon does not accommodate you they will if you have a good reason to be accommodated and get proof from your doctor they cannot deny you it's against the law. I had an accommodation at one building when I transferred over here I have another accommodation that was approved. So if people are complaining because they're not getting an accommodation it is because it doesn't qualify that's why. Most of these people that could terminated because of their performance is because they're sitting there on their phones or they're talking to their neighbor and they're not getting the work done. The computer tells Amazon if you're not working the process assistance and managers know when you're not working so they'll come over to see what's going on and if you're just sitting there hanging out with your buddies like a lot of people do or you're on your phone or you're walking over to somebody else's station and talking and not doing your work then yeah you're going to be penalized for your performance because you're there to work you're not there to chit chat on your phone all day. You are hired to do a job if you don't want to do that job then leave. Regarding managers not knowing disability law they're not required to know that is why we have DLS and that contact information is on our A to z app so if you have a disability then you need to submit paperwork to them they will then upload it to your case and then your manager will be notified if you have a disability. If there is no disability in the system and your managers can't see that that is because you don't have a disability or it was not approved as a disability. When you applied for Amazon you knew the rate of the pay correct so why are you complaining about it now. Who accepts a job or applies for a job you know the pay you know the benefits then you get that job and then you guys turn around and change everything why not look for another job that pays better than why would you accept this position why would you apply for it and the first place if you didn't like the pay. So don't listen to everything that you hear because some of these people that are complaining about some of these things are the ones that don't want to work. Just keep that in mind I see it everyday. Two guys at a station I'm in the middle of that station do you know how hard it was for me to go to the wall get my products because these two kept walking back and forth at each other and talking or getting on their phones and getting in my way because I was not able to do my work because they were both playing around I had to literally go and tell the manager look either move me or move one of them because I cannot do my job because they keep getting in my way going back and forth standing a back of me and talking I couldn't get my products out of the wall to pack the products because they were interfering with my job. Say for instance you got the inductor which is technically the start of the line if that person is on their phone constantly well that means they're not putting anything in those trays and if they're not putting anything in the trays the rebinner can't do their job and if they can't do their job well then we have nothing to pack, it's a chain reaction. Amazon is teamwork that's what it is if one is not doing their job the other one can't work so you want to mess with your rate that's fine and dandy but by you just sitting there on your phone you're not only messing with their rate but their performance is also going to be affected that is when the manager comes over and says what's going on why isn't the line moving well cuz he's sitting there on his phone or is talking to the one next to him smh. This is what is going on at the Amazons whoever does not work there is never going to know the truth. Some of these people go into the bathroom I'll go in the bathroom and they're sitting on the bathroom floor on their phone or they're sitting in the bathroom stall and you can see their cord plugged into the wall which is outside the stall they're trying to charge their phone smh. Believe half of what you hear and all of what you see. I am a very hard worker I don't appreciate anybody coming in and trying to mess with my work by not doing yours that is not fair to the person that actually wants to work. So the majority of what you just heard in this video is false except for Amazon is very hot it is hot in there. Bottom lines the ones trying to do all these unions those are the ones that don't want to work that's why they want a union. If you don't want to work stay home. Don't apply for a position where you know the pay and benefits and then try to start a union. why did you apply in the first place? Doesn't make any sense to me. Well I'm going to go here I know it's 15 an hour but I'm going to apply and I see their benefits and everything I know what this place entails blah blah blah and then once I get in there I'm going to try to tear the business apart because I don't like what they're doing. Stupid

Your 15.50 has the potential to be $56,000 a year if you work overtime. 4. The health insurance is the best I’ve ever had… and it’s cheap. 5. Its not hot in the building they have AC 6. The breaks wouldn’t seem bad if you would pack your lunch. 7. It’s not hard to meet rate if you stay at your station and off your phone😂

I think that most of this is probably true but all I'm seeing is an opinion piece. Propaganda even. Now I think amazon needs to be taken down a peg and made to respect people but this video doesn't really inform but rather seems to be intent on convincing. The individuals chosen for interview are what? An "amazon worker". What does that mean? What do they do? The individuals are all people of ethnicity which can easily makes others think this is a race issue and not just inequality. A view that can lead to more division in the people. If it is indeed a race issue then that needs to be brought up. Also show numbers and sources so that we can look into the issue at hand. Explain more! Don't do the media bull crap of treating us all like we can't think for ourselves. Show us and educate us. Give us sources and start a conversation with people.

@@tylermane77 Critical thinking should easily inform you on the error of your statement. My comment focused on how the video was more about persuasion than about informing or truly empowering people to get educated by facts and information. The piece was made as something to persuade but without anything that could enable a person to make an educated decision or response. Now if you're incapable or unwilling to think for yourself then that's fine but I dislike anyone who has an agenda and treats others as chattel to be manipulated. I am no fan of Amazon, internet trolls, or organizations that abuse their power. By trying to label me as a bot you deny my humanity, you attempt to discredit my opinion, and you encourage others not to think critically. If your comment is truly your honest view then I ask you to open your eyes and think more. If however your goal is simply to cause drama, division, or to simply amuse yourself then consider me un impressed at such immature actions. One's actions affect others even if obscured by being online. Are you trying to make the world better or hoping to destroy? Either way I'll not be responding further. Oh I hope to God they don't start that race thing because I mean it does go on at all the Amazons but it ain't just against blacks it's against every race it doesn't matter. We had a black manager that would constantly give the blacks all the packed walls which means they were going to get a high rate any other race we got empty walls with nothing to pack so there goes our rate this happened every single day. So I disagree with some of the things that they say because this happens to all races just depends on what color your manager is. And when he was my manager and he tried to come over and pull me off of a wall to put a black person there I looked at him and I said I'm going to tell you something right now I know what you do and I'm not going to tolerate it you are not pulling me off of this wall to put her here and put me on an empty one cuz if you do that to me I'm going right to HR and then you're going to have to explain to HR why you just did what you did. Jeff Bezo’s current net worth is 157 billion. 1.6 million employees times 100k is 160 billion. He’d technically be short almost 3 billion. I understand he’s rich. But that doesn’t entitle you to his money he earned. Anyone can risk every and work for free for 3-5 years in hopes of having a success business. Just know, almost 80% will fail. No risk, no reward. There are currently two jobs for every one person looking. Never a better time to start a business. Don’t sit there and complain. Leave, if no one was willing to work for less then 20.00. That’s what they’d have to pay. Look at the trades. Look at fast food managers. Shit, In & out pays managers 135k in Phoenix. Want to know why? They work their ass off and earn it.
