Let’s travel to Bitola, North Macedonia, the second largest city in the country after Skopje. It makes a good stopover between Skopje and Ohrid with its compact size and pleasant walking street lined with cafes and good shopping. The top drawcard is the well-preserved ancient city Heraclea built by Philip of Macedon in the 4th century BC, with ampitheatre, bath, and colorful restored mosaics. Few tourists stop here so you have the place to yourself!
