During Father's Day Weekend of 2023, the Northern Central Railway would be celebrating their 10th Anniversary of operations with a number of events and excursions. Formally known as "Steam Into History", the railroad began operations in 2013 with a replica 4-4-0 "American" Steam locomotive on a route that Abraham Lincoln once traveled along to make the famed Gettysburg Address. With the rolling hills and thick woods of York County surrounding the line, the excursions traverse scenic countryside on the way to Glen Rock and return to New Freedom on Saturday's excursions. Featuring the railroad's star 4-4-0 #17, a guest locomotive, Gramling Locomotive Works 0-4-0T #85, would also be operating excursions alongside the replica "American" to mark the Northern Central Railway's 10th year of re-creating steam locomotion history. History of York 17:
"York" 17 was built in 2013 by the Kloke Locomotive Works of Elgin, Illinois for the Northern Central Railroad. The locomotive is a reproduction of a 4-4-0 American type, a locomotive common to many North American railroads in the mid to late 19th Century. For more than ten years now, the stunningly crafted locomotive has provided reliable service to the railroad hauling steam powered passenger excursions and charters.
History of Jeddo Coal Company 85:
Jeddo Coal Company 85 is a 0-4-0T tank engine affectionately named "Mack" that was built in 1928 by the Vulcan Iron Works of Wilkes-Barre, PA. After entering service with the A.E. Dick Construction Company, she was then sold to the Jeddo-Highland Coal Company in 1933 where the locomotive remained until 1964 when she was sold to a private collector. After years on static display, the locomotive was purchased by the Gramling's and returned to steam in 2017 after a thorough restoration and continues to travel across the eastern United States.
