Adrian. Brilliant photography, as always. Sorry that the dreaded midges are a misery. The locals (and the British army!) have secret answer to the problem, a ladies’ moisturiser called “skin so soft”. I’m not pulling your leg, promise. I’ve used it myself and really works, I’ve no idea why. Much better than the foul chemical repellents, and it smells better too. You should be able to buy it in any chemist (pharmacy) when you’re next in contact with civilisation. Good luck!

My favourite photographer You Tuber by far ! No-one should ever underestimate the Scottish midge ( its only the females which bite ! I think ! )

I once wore an orange beanie on the Isle of Skye. Turns out midges are attracted to orange. Wore it one morning when camping by a lake. My friend pointed out to me that the hat was no longer orange. It was solid-black with midges.

My advice is to use an app for the remote on your sony as a backup. There is a bunch of them that conect via the camera wifi

Hi, Some lovely images here and a very engaging video as always. My heart goes out to you. The Scottish midge is very small indeed and most insect screens will not contain it. These are the Devil’s own creatures and the reason that people seldom return to the north highlands in summer for a second dose. You may be able to get a fine-screen midge net at the shop in Bettyhill or have one delivered from Tiso in Edinburgh to your camping ground. I wish you luck with this.

Fantastic video, love Scotland so picturesque. I was doing what you were doing yesterday in regional Victoria here in Australia. Windy and wet in and out of the car- so much fun 😊 nice drone footage too 😊 that photo of the road with mountains in the back is so good

Been so many times to this area and you really capture something essential about it (that I always fail to do 😂) Midges - yeah. Essential to wear a net, and spray with Smidge (not the Avon stuff that people talk about)

I'm in Wick and Duncansby is my go-to place but there are so many places you missed! Not forgetting the Neruda poetry carvings 😉 As for your spot at Tongue where the midges defeated you, your feeling was right that loch is the place to get a shot of the mountain. Make sure you go back there!

Nice vlog It is a great part of Scotland ---- but that is not many midges, they can be a lot worse, so many that the form black clouds.

Every time I see shots of the coast in the UK it amazes me. Such a primal looking landscape. I love the exposure on this shot. It's blacks and whites with very little grey and the highlights don't look blown out. Also, the water here has this soft, creamy look to it. Is that from a filter? I need to work on getting that. Often, my BNW images don't get that look. Not sure if it's a contrast thing or something I'm doing wrong in the initial exposure. Thanks for taking us along. Just love this Scotland adventure!

He gets that look on the water by taking those long exposures. Mentioned several times in the video.

Nigel Danson is in Scotland too, and he too complains about the midges. Think this is why Bob Dylan is selling his property there. Please tell us if you meet Danson there.

I understand, I’m not a big fan of that kind of footage either. I try to keep to a minimum to better show a place or the conditions. I think a 10-second clip in a 34 minute long video should be just fine 😊
