Basic preventive maintenance on a Northern Tool Powerhorse 3100 PSI 2.5 GPM pressure washer. I change the oil in the engine and the pump, as well as discuss a few operations tips and tricks with the nozzles.
I purchased my 10W-30 oil for the engine and SAE-30W non-detergent oil for the pump, both at Advance Auto Parts. They don't sponsor anything, I just like them. You can get that oil anywhere really; plus you can take the dirty milk jug back to them for free for proper disposal.
Link to pressure washer. I had a coupon and it ran me closer to $300. Since writing this, I've used it a lot and it's been very dependable.

Just picked one these up on the curb and the engine fires up perfectly. I drained the pump oil and it was white! But your video definitely has helped me in a huge way. I’m about to buy the two different oils and get this thing going. Thanks!!

Excellent video! I have a Craftsman 3100 psi washer, (your engine oil configuration appears identical to mine), I'll look at the pump oil port, glad you mentioned that! Hopefully I'll find something like your video that covers my specific machine, thanks

Awesome. With a little bit of preventative maintenance and common sense, these will last a long time for the cost. My $2,700 John Deere zero turn works better, but was more than my $500 Cub Cadet. Good luck!

If you thoroughly read the manual in the specifications it's 3 1/2 ounces for the pump, I have the same pressure washer. And for the engine oil it's 20.16 ounces

I don’t have a way to measure that specifically. Dipstick method works well, but if you can get that exact, that’s awesome. Thx for the tip!

My powerhorse 89897 is rated the same except my pump has no drain or fill? I can't find out if it even needs oil in the pump. Could this be an oil-less pump version? Maybe it's oil fed off the crankcase? Any info would help
@durk1980

Found this online. I’m sure the answer is in it. Not sure as it looks like that model is discontinued. www.manualslib.com/products/Powerhorse-89897-11361412.html

I would like to know if the oil level exceeds, is it true that when I am working my compressor will lacquer?
@durk1980
@durk1980 Жыл бұрын
Never heard it phrased like that: "lacquer". Not sure my friend:) In general, too much oil will bog a machine down. If you pour too much in, just crack the drain bolt and let some come out. Tighten it back up, then re-check the level. All good!

Hey bro i baught one that stitting spewing oil out the fill. Do you know whats bad
@durk1980
@durk1980 10 ай бұрын
Hey there. Without seeing it, hard to tell. Sounds like it’s spewing oil out of the fill plug? Oil pressure will obviously build up when an engine is operating, so if that pressure finds a crack, it will leak. Make sure the fill drain/plug is completely tight, as it could be a bad seal. There are only so many places it could be leaking. If it’s new, you could take it back???

Does it matter the side you put the 10w30 . I put on the side without the measuring stick
@durk1980
@durk1980 Жыл бұрын
Nope, doesn’t matter. It’s actually a smart way to do it, because you could be putting it on that side, and then using the opposite dipstick side to check your level. It doesn’t take a lot of oil.

The drain plugs are low. So you can drain most of the oil out! They really should be slightly lower. Like underneath with a rubber hose. So you can aim it into an oil pan.

I just bought this unit and I also noticed that you can drain the oil from both sides of the engine. Would it make sense to drain from the side where there is a cut out in the frame.

@@scottmerrill7418 Yep, that's what it's there for. He did it the messy way. Just put a pan under it pull the plug. Same setup as on my old Ryobi.

@durk1980
@durk1980 Жыл бұрын
Without seeing it, I would say, confirm that you have put the correct gasoline in it, the spark plug works, and is connected, and the unit is turned on with choke, before pulling it. Also, ensure that the fuel line is on. perhaps you have a friend or two that would be willing to come by and take a look. If it is brand-new and not working, I would also take it back and ask for somebody to help you wherever you purchased it. Sorry!

hi, i did not understand , 5 h work and u change pump oil ?
@durk1980
@durk1980 Ай бұрын
Pump is really small. 5 hrs, probably not, but 10? Yes. For me, due to the size of the pump and the fact that this pump is what actually makes that machine work properly, and the very, very small amount of oil needed, I will change it every 7 hrs or so. If I forget and change it at 20 hrs it’s probably going to be okay, but it will be black…very used oil. Just means the pump won’t run like I want it to. I would say check it every 10 hrs if you’re not as nitpicky as me. Hope that helps.

Is yours as big of a piece of junk as mine? Runs about 20 mins and the just dies while using it at full pressure. Got NT to replace the pump under warranty after they didn’t want to. Don’t think it’s an engine issue so much as I think it’s a pump issue.
