At 41:20 if he would have played the defend, the armaments (Upgrade the strike), hit him with body slam, then striked, he would have dealt that extra 18 damage to kill the heart exactly. NL WHYYYYYY

Or better, think the turn out before that. Play Shrug before Searing Blow, and then you can Armaments to upgrade the Searing Blow. It's free, deals more damage, and takes less damage.

Tips For NL When facing the final boss block comes before the damage for playing a card. So when the boss is not attacking use at least one block before continuing to save HP.

From the way he misplayed the first turn against the dad's heart i assume that he thinks that the damage it deals to you after you play cards goes through armour. I have no idea why he'd think that, but it cost him the win, which makes me very happy.

@@Kubolons to be fair, the mechanic in the game most similar to that is the curse where you take damage from playing cards, which does go through block. yeah, reading the effect would tell you they're different, but if you're auto-piloting it is a fair assumption to make.

@@Kubolons because its NL, and he's also commentating over it. Look, i'm not completely defending him, he should pay closer attention, but the phrase you said of "I have no idea why he'd think that" is unfair, because it makes sense when compared to the curse.

@@justinkellenberger7462 I don't think commentating over StS videos is much of a justification for missing a lot of stuff about the game because in this series he doesn't really focus on grocery store stories and stuff but rather talks about the game. Also, don't get me wrong, I still enjoy those videos but it's just so weird that after such a long time he still does so much stupid shit. And to see him get punished for it is quite entertaining, so never change Ryab, we love you!

This is what happens when you get a really good run with Searing Blow plus Necronomicon then forget that you had the Necronomicon and attribute that win solely to Searing Blow.

Mixing the Juggernaut and Searing Blow archetypes is what killed you in the end. Committing to the Juggernaut archetype, upgrading only your defensive cards, removing basic Strikes, and only using Corruption/Feel No Pain as a burst DPS/execute method would have won you the entire run. Cards like Body Slam and Second Wind also would have been extremely valuable.

Hmm, maybe yes, but would it have been enough dmg to finish the last boss? Take in mind that he would have exhausted his entire deck at like turn 4-5

Which is why I wouldn't pop Corruption until the last boss had 200 HP or so remaining.

@ChoziNet Think about all the upgrades he pumped into Searing Blow, and imagine if he pushed them into defensive cards instead. Yes, it's possible that he could still be out-damaged, but if he paced himself, strategically played big Block cards he could have taken such as Impervious or Second Wind, and saved Corruption for the last 200 HP or so of the boss instead of playing it right away like he did, I genuinely believe he would have had a shot.

At it was, a juggernaut/corruption/feel no pain/barricade deck would have won it for him for sure. Too bad Barricade didn't show up, and too bad he didn't just focus on the searing blow strategy. A small heavy offense deck with a seriously upgraded searing blow can put in work on a non-ascension run.

Is there a reason to upgrade searing over armaments? a single upgrade on armaments is basically equal to at least 4 upgrades in combat since hes playing it either way, surely it would make more sense to skip upgrading searing once for the ability to upgrade multiple cards, especially since he skips upgrading searing with armaments in combat when an upgrade would've pushed it up a level anyway (like at 36:35)

Searing blow is a noob trap and the fact that NL still has hope for that card speaks volumes. He’s so close to being good but just holds on to silly strats that always get him killed.

@@MannFace51 Its really not though, you can make very good Searing Blow decks, but that has to be THE deck. It doesn't fit well into other archetypes because it absorbs all your upgrades. But when you get it to near a 100 damage and have to means to play it every turn it shreds everything.

I disagree, early it was bad, but in late game he needed another win condition against bosses, exhausting half of his deck with Corruption made Searing Blow and his upradges a lot better

I disagree. It gave him a massive damage curve once he brought corruption in. I dont know if he thought this, but the idea that he will eventually be able to deal 100 damage for 2 energy should be in every deck. You cant argue that.

You let the heart get to you. You win by playing cards, and you ended your first turn with three energy and four cards. There was literally no reason not to play at least some of them, but maybe you thought the beat of death hits you through your block for some reason. If you had played your other blocks before body slam, and had used your strike, you would have won this run.

Best part is, he kept the steroid potion saying potions the potions are important for act 4 when fairy in a bottle would of literally saved his life 🙃 and won the run.

NL, for the record, Iron Wave is great with Juggernaut: It blocks, hits and then procs Juggernaut. It also works well if you have either Shuriken or Kunai, as it takes advantage of both

God I love Juggernaut builds. There's SO MANY different synergies that interact in fun ways. I'd never even thought about Thread & Needle, for example.

Christmas came early and so did I, he took Metallicize. Nevermind, he went for Searing Blow, instead of full Armor build, RIP. Spot fuckin weakness and Steroid Potion, ok game you have tried, you gave him free win and he said Fuck off, it's not your fault Slay the Spire, eggs just are like this, it takes a lot of time before something gets through their shell.

You should have left some blocks for later turns, NL. There's no reason to play them on a turn when the block does nothing for you if they're gonna cost 0 anyway.

That's true. On the other hand, he could play those early, get the damage, and get different draws on later turns (for even more damage). It all depends on if you think sustain or burst is more useful for the fight.

In my opinion, this deck was quite well drafted. but execution was.. eh. The corruption + FNP + Juggernaut combo is interesting. Exhausting every single card and then blowing enemies up with your searing blow. NL would've won the last fight if he played the first turn way better. If he played the armaments on the true grit, he could've exhausted the strike and block for a lot, then use body slam to get more than above the 18 damage he needed at the end.

Would better play on that fight have saved him? I didn't like micro-analyze the fight but I noticed he kept attacking before playing defends (which ate unnecessary health on some turns).

Honestly mixing two bad archetypes together didn't work as terribly as I thought it would have. I was about to turn off the video when he took Juggernaut out of that initial selection then grabbed Searing Blow but I kept watching as he was handed every relic and card needed to make it work with the exception of maybe the thorns relic and the clay. And dead branch obviously after that Corruption pickup. It was Ascension 0 though...
