When you wake up at 5:30 am you move a 180 pound hosta, right?
Wait, doesn't everybody do that?

I can so relate to this! I believe I have the same variety. I have divided it twice in three years. This spring I also had to call my husband to help. I was so tired after getting it out and moved I didn’t have the strength to plant it. Days went by and it sat in the wheel barrel. Finally I realized it was too late and it was bound for the compost pile. Dumped it roots side up.Three weeks later I turned it over and it was growing leaves all smashed and deformed. This poor hosta wanted to live so badly. I found the energy to dig a whole and plant her. Took her about week or two to straighten out. Now would never know the trauma this plant went she looks beautiful! Yours looks perfect in her new spot!

Oh my word!!! That is crazy! I think plants are alot tougher than we give them credit for. And everything that sprout from the compost pile always seems to love life. Haha! Do you.know the variety name of the hosta?

What a trip back in time for me. In my 20's I would be in the garden before the sun rose, and I was always trying to move large plants by myself. Almost 50 years later, I struggle to get into the garden before noon, and procrastinate moving any plant bigger than gallon sized. Keep doing those big projects now, so you can enjoy your dream garden later in life!

Danielle I thought you were going to have to rent a crane to remove that beast of a Hosta😊. So glad this video popped up because I need to remove a few now and I don't want to wait until Fall. Thanks for the inspiration

I love my Empress Wu Hosta! Mine was often damaged by late frost until I started making an effort to protect it. As soon as the hosta begins to appear I keep an eye on the weather. If the temps are expected to dip below 40 degrees I cover the hosta until more favorable conditions are expected. I have experimented using different protection methods. So far the very best way was just covering the plant gently with a flat bed sheet; usually I remove the sheet as soon as the sun comes out the next morning. Works like a charm!

Great advice Danielle, I purchased 4 PW Empress Wu’s about 2 weeks ago and originally planned on putting them up in my front garden but have been thinking that I should reconsider and plant along the back of my yard as it is more shaded along the wood line .. I think I’ll do that.😂

I was looking forward to seeing how you moved this hosta knowing how heavy moving a plant like that can be. I'm in my 70's and still moving plants, but one that heavy I think I would have had to dig it up as much as possible, cut it into sections with a sawz-all and move each one separately. If I want something done I figure a way, but it's getting a lot harder to do. More power to you young lady, your gardening skills are really beautiful to watch.

Karine Levasseur Yes, they are very invasive, especially if they are in a moist soil. Mine took over two beds, and I’m constantly pulling them out of where I don’t want them. Their runners go everywhere.

I love hostas I just don't have the best of luck growing them I tried growing them from the Dollar General in a bag like the bulb that didn't work. Can you believe I planted it upside down and never knew I was watering the roots in the ball was in the dirt LOL. Then I just gave in and purchased one that was already growing it's just a little baby if you could please give me some advice on how I can keep this hosta grow and make mine look as great as yours. PS it's good to grow zinnias especially I love them because that's my name Zinnia. I'm new to gardening and vlogging and ran across your channel I'm a new subbie now. it's nice to meet you.

This May I dug up my “Paul’s Glory” hosta which is 4 years old…it was huge….so I thought, no problem to divide it….Wrong!!! I thought I was digging to China it was soooo deep….almost broke the shovel to lift it out because the clump was bigger than a basketball….with a ton of dirt around it….it took a spade and a hammer and knife to divide it into thirds…replanted in 3 locations and so far all are doing really well…I do water them well….I thought I’d killed it, but so far so good.

You have a beautiful yard, lots of nice healthy plants. I am wondering how often Hosta's need to be divided, it seems you could have had 2 or 4 of those beauties in your yard. Anyway, it looks good and you did a good job.
