My son was just deployed. This song makes me think of him so much. I miss him horribly . Being a single mom (my hubs/their dad was killed in a wreck in 2007) it's just been me and my children for 15yrs. He's 22 now, but he was my rock for so long. Don't know how I'm gonna make it so long without him. Just praying he makes it home safely every day and night.

Teardrops fell on mama's note When I read the things she wrote She said, "We miss you son, we love you, come on home" Well, I didn't have to pack I had it all right on my back Now I'm 500 miles away from home Away from home, away from home Cold and tired and all alone Yes, I'm 500 miles away from home I know this is the same road I took the day I left home But it sure looks different now Well, I guess I look different too 'Cause time changes everything I wonder what they'll say When they see their boy looking this way Oh, I wonder what they'll say when I get home Can't remember when I ate It's just thumb and walk and wait And I'm still 500 miles away from home If my luck had been just right I'd be with them all tonight But I'm still 500 miles away from home Away from home, away from home Cold and tired and all alone Yes, I'm still 500 miles away from home Ho, I'm still 500 miles away from home Yyy

@@cyrussebastian5385 Cyrus, you're full of $hit! The US never colonized nor wanted to colonize Viet Nam. The French (colonials) were there & the commies (russians) wanted it all. The southern part of Viet Nam was extremely rural and 3rd world, while the north was slightly more advanced. The russians controlled the north through Ho, while the N. Vietnamese ruthlessly attacked the south. This action drove the final nail into the division of Russia & China. Your knowledge of Asia & it's history seems to be somewhat limited and insufficient, thus probably your YT name...… You Are an Idiot and a Troll.....!

I was a ladd of 15 when I first heard american country music. An old sergeant of the us armee who frequently came by to our restaurant in the frankfort area, took me to the nco and I had the very pleasure to hear this great singer; btw my favorite album is still that "down and dirty", he released in the early '80s. - Do hope, that my English hasn't gone that bad.

20 years old and on a lark I hitched hike from Phoenix, ariz back to my hometown in Iowa. Flagstaff 5:00am so cold waiting for a ride . Oklahoma City praying for a ride because it’s going to rain any minute. Excelsior Springs, Mo at 2:00 in the morning just hoping the cops didn’t see me sleeping downtown under this awning. When I finally got home I sat down on a park bench in the town square and thanked God that I made it back in one piece and promised myself I would NEVER do such a dumbass thing again!!! This song was running through my mind on that whole journey.

the sound of the voice is so magnificent; they don't make'em like that anymore. So many artists from that era got that special voice and I can't describe it; listen to roy orbison, lee hazlewood, the ronettes; whatever; their voices are just so different than anything today; weird.. and I love it

Reason is because of the stereo equipment they recorded on and the sound of their voice was natural with zero editing other than noise reduction/ cancellation. Now day and since the 80s they have been using hi fi equipment which now is termed high res. Everything is digital now. Voices are encrypted and then decoded. Back then it was just the sound of minute scratches on vinyl

This song really hits hard when I listen to it. Even when I am home, it still makes me feel lonely. Also, for those of who say you can't use a 12-string for country, kiss it! Bobby Bare is one of the greatest country artists ever and he used 12-strings in his early years! I think the one he has in this video is a Gibson B-25 12.
