Norway derives almost 100 percent of its energy from hydropower. For Germany's planned transition to renewable energy, a close partnership is crucially important, because Norwegian pumped storage power stations could balance out variations in renewable energy sources. But do Norwegians actually want to their country to become Europe's storage battery?

They already knew 7 years ago that the electricity price in Norway would be extremely high. And now in 2021 they are extremely high because of that new cable

They would produce 2000 MWh per hour, not MW per hour (it's a unit of power, not energy).

Posh Boy, the hour is routinely used in electrical measurement to quantify power times time, it is how your electricity bill is measured. (Retired Electrical power engineer)

Norwegian oil company Statoil buildt a big offshore windpark for the UK, providing power for 650 000 houses. Statoil is also planning a even bigger offshore windpark in Norway that will produce power for 2,1 million houses. Norway will be the future battery off Europe xD

Mr. Death, Generated power is not measured in the number of homes it may provide. The media always use this figure or that of rated nameplate power, both are meaningless. As far as wind is concerened it should be in a de rated value equal to it's real output, e.g., a 1 gigawatt offshore wind fram should be rtaed at 400 Mwatts, with the knowledge that at times it will be near zero and others much much higher. That is one of the fundemental and unchangeable feature of wind.

4:05 But you would need more powerplants, power storage and ease of access is the one thing that can make Renewable energy work as well as fossil fuel. And I live near Tafjord which has been heavily developed for hydro power, with miles of underground pipes, a huge dam (Tallest in Norther Europe) and several reservoir. And the area is as beautiful as ever and a splendid trip for tourists and hikers, made available by splendid roads going over the gorges and mountain. Though I will say this, Statkraft should never EVER be privatized, it must have the public mandate.

Because of all the export of Norwegian hydro power, now in Norway electrical companies are planning huge windturbines on top of the mountains of Norway... This will endanger bird live extensively and brake the Norwegian wildernis landscape for no other reason that a few people making a lot of money. Against the will of a large part of the Norwegian population. In Norway, people heat their houses with electric heating... Now the price of electricity is being made equal to European prices.. making it extremely expensive to use this only source of heating for the Norwegians.. And it is a very cold country in the winter... as you know

Allot of resistanse from the Norwegian population when it comes to windmills on land. Offshore is a better option. Equinor is building a Huge offshore windmill park that can power 2,1 million houses. They have buildt offshore windmills in Scotland, building in the US and other places

I'm surprised you don't know the other reason for wind turbines, they reduce greenhouse gases. Electricity consumption can be drastically reduced with heat pumps.
@SaurierDNA

@@dougmc666 It would be much more economical as well as environmental friendly to upgrade all the hydro power installations that Norway already has.... Wind turbines of 250 meter high on islands that till now were seen as unique nature area`s were no building activities were allowed, just for some foreign companies to make a buck, is not correct in many ways.. .But as with all the money coming from the oil, Norwegian government decides what is good for Norwegian people (and politicians are corrupt everywhere in the world)... Instead of investing some of the Oil Fund 1.3 Trillion USD worth into modernizing existing hydro power, it decides to destroy nature and landscape with monstrous machines and make life more expensive for Norwegian citizens...

Amici Nybråten Hence why even an (educated) Norwegian complains of the stupidity of keeping energy prices high... Just because you have a higher salary doesn't mean that your purchasing power parity compared to other country is better... When even some Eastern European countries have higher purchasing power than a Norwegian who has to get a 30+ years loan to buy a house it raises several fundamental questions... And yes I know what I am talking about as a master in international economy...
