The Annals of Ulster announced the arrival of the Viking Chieftain , known as Turgesius and Thorgest arrived at the head of a huge Viking fleet in 837. He would come to dominate large areas of Ireland with his ferocious Viking forces but would be ultimately captured by the Irish. Sadly, there is little known about this warrior except for fleeting entries to some of the annals and supported by many myths.
Welcome to my channel, that is dedicated to the history and culture of Ireland.This is not set out to be a history lesson, but a ramble through some stories you might find interesting about Ireland. Ireland has so many connections throughout the world from the emigration from this country over so many centuries, but those with Irish blood in their families always have a yearning to know more about their "old country", this is my attempt to bring some of the history and culture they left behind. Great video, Turgesius was never going to beat Máel Sechnaill 1st, his military was getting to far lagre by then and he was pushing to be King of Ireland. Once the King of Irelands eyes where sight on him, that was Turgesius days done.

I always thought it was this viking that was killed in the battle of Strangford lough, that was supposed to be 2 groups of viking fighting each other and one famous viking king was killed and buried on an island not far awa. This was near the modern town of strangford in county down.

@@washerdryer3466 It is Brian Boru's Pre Battle Speech Clontarf 1014 ad when and where Norse Power was eradicated from Ireland - without that Victory all Ireland would have been slaves to these Godless unwashed Barbarian Heathen. Similar to the other godless unwashed heathen who still pretend they have a legitimate stake in Ireland ? At the Height of Norse power only 11 or so Irish men were resisting them - and that is all it takes. - to turn the tide.
