Tusen takk for hjelpsom leksjon! It's funny (or not) that mobile language apps like Duolingo or Mondly don't even cover the alphabet and these simple grammar rules.

I've met a lot of Norwegians and watched a lot of videos in KZfaq. Regarding alphabet. This is one of the best. The thing is, Norwegian natives do not understand o and å are super confusing sound to foreigners. 😂

It's good and helpful. But you may find the grammar part of silent words a little hard if you are a beginner of Norwegian bokmal language. Otherwise OK.........

This letter, as q, x, w and z, almost only appears in loanwords. The pronunciation differs: camping = k, Cecilie = s, cello = tj or sj. The main rule is that it is pronounced s before i, e, y and k before a, o, u. That should be added in a later video.

How do you pronounce the name "Fosaaen"? At some point during World War 2, my dad, Knute, stopped off at a little town in Iowa to check on a relative. He asked at the local bar* for Mr. "Fawson" (how our branch of the family pronounces the name), but the bartender didn't know of him. A few minutes later, the bartender asked my dad if he meant Mr. "Foo-sown", or "Foo-sowen", or some such--and then gave dad the directions to the relative he was looking for. *Based on the theory that, in a small town, even if the bartender didn't know every single person in that town, he probably knew every Norwegian.

That's a fun story! The bartender's pronunciation is quite close, at least the second one: "Foo-sowen". What you write as "ow" here, like a diphthong, is just the vowel "å".

Is this a rule that ''eg'' in the end of the word is pronunce like''æi''?
@uttaleno
@uttaleno 9 ай бұрын
No, it only applies to a few words. The word “steg” (step), for example, is pronounced with a long /e/ and a /g/

Is the "v" pronounce the same way like in English?
@uttaleno
@uttaleno 9 ай бұрын
Not completely. The Norwegian is usually an approximant, while the English is a fricative. The difference in pronunciation here is quite slim,
