Patty Lyons has been trying for two years to find home health aides for her daughter, Adriana, who lives with cerebral palsy, a chronic lung disease and epilepsy. For years, Adriana was under the care of a private-duty nurse when Lyons was away from their Westerville home. Now, she and many others no longer qualify under state Medicaid policies that say those services can be delegated to less-costly personal-care aides.

Adriana is so beautiful!! You described the hell that we are all going through very well. Gods grace, persistence and knowledge will conquer this for all. God bless.

You are lucky to have any services. In some areas of the nation, people have no real choice but to place their family members in an institution. I live in a very rural area of Kansas. It''s so hard to find anyone to provide any sort of services. It's all about money. Many people tell us to move to a large city, but the services are so poor that we are lucky to get anything at all. If you are not a family member of the person getting this hell hole of services Then you don't get it.

That's the worst part. The state's Medicaid who once cared about solely the happiness of the client only cares about the money now which I for one think is completely backwards. I lost some extremely good people because of them, and it feels sickening how they cover up the fact that they're trying to save money with the excuse, "to protect the client from fraud." Something needs to be done about that whole system because what they're only doing is forcing their workers to sever some amazing relationships that they've made with the client over the course of years. This is a great mom, and an example of how some people shouldn't want to give up a losing battle with the state Medicaid.

Patty, I read about your and Adriana's situation this morning when I read the paper. I then came here to view the quick clip. Adriana is a beautiful young lady! She (and YOU) deserve more than what our severely broken system is giving...and I use that term loosely. I'm basically a nobody, but is there anything I can do to help???
