With its first-year “step-down” design, this 1948 Hudson is sometimes confused with the legendary Tucker. In this video Steve demonstrates how Hudson was almost as advanced.

In elementary school, a classmate's Dad had a green '52 Hudson. He gave me a ride home in it one day, and I'll never forget how big, plush, and powerful this car was! I especially remember the radio antenna being in the middle of the roof above the windshield, with a crank knob to adjust the direction of it! What a cool car!

This news is not what I hoped to hear. I knew from the one new video he posted a while ago after the first batch of reruns that he was briefly in the hospital and am sad his condition has worsened and he had to go back. I never dreamed his condition would get worse so quickly. I really, really hope he didn't get infected by something very bad from one of the junkyard cars. I seen in several videos from this past spring and early summer that he had cut himself of rusty jagged metal a few different times. God only knows what kind of deadly evils lurk in some of these junkyard cars we all love.

I've always held the opinion Hudson (and Chrysler and Studebaker) flat head straight-8's are highly underrated, like the Buick 3800 Series of their day.. they got the job done, so easy to work on, ran forever and very very smoothly, with a unique feel and sound all their own. I've had the great privilege of driving a few and the effortless torque from a stand-still is pretty damn addictive. You really don't even feel a need to rev out, at all, that effortless torque just gets ya 🤣

Clifford Research was a guy named Jack Clifford, if my memory serves me correctly, and he ran an NHRA national champ and record holding Hudson Hornet and a Hudson Jet at the drag strip well into the 1960s. He was also into hi po parts for 6 cylinder engines. Hudson cars were always a class act in my book. Check out the Hudson Super Six that they turned into a truck in the movie "Grapes Of Wrath," that engine sounded so sweet.

Part II. I also owned a 49 Caddy and it wasn't as fast or handled as well as my Hudson. Also, I'd never confuse that with a Tucker. The grill and rear deck are significantly different. Remember the Tucker rear mounted a French aviation engine and was actually faster than the Hornet and handled about the same. It's too bad it didn't get to NASCAR, it would've changed history. As for the tail lights, you're right, the plastic was introduced in 1950 as a cost cutting feature. Thanks Steve, I always learned something from you. This coming from a 68 year old man who started wrenching when he was 6 years old on his daddy's 35 Chevy coupe.

My mother had the opportunity to drive a Tucker and lost her deposit on one when the government screwed him over. I'm not familiar with the Commodore but I did own a 1955 Hornet. The step down styling and its technology blew my mind. What a car!

Here's another day hoping Mr. Magnante is on the mend. As stated last time: Hudson was also the first to hire a female designer, Betty Thatcher Oros, whose husband worked for Cadillac for a time. She passed away in 2001. You could get a Hudson in a convertible in this generation as well, which ran from 1948-1952. The front seat had a tag that said something that would have been interesting to read. Possible code "M" Maroon Deep exterior paint. Hopefully the Caprice wagon is next on the video list, and Katie seems to be enjoying the "OBS" Cheyenne that she jumped out of. She looks like a great woofer and junkyard companion.

Tucker is so rare, I really don't expect to see 'em. Hudson, chop top design without the chop. thought I saw an "E" in the lucite. I was in Southern Indiana yesterday, saw an early '70's Fury on the road. Feller had it painted purple with a spoiler on the trunk lid. To each their own, anyway, the feller had 'er on the road.

I wonder if the Detroit area was a good sales market for Hudsons - the founding family owned the J.L. Hudson Department Store, which was a shopper's paradise for many decades.
@kenttalsma790610 ай бұрын
Sears tried that also, didn't they? Sears was yesterday's version of Amazon.
@eugenepolan175010 ай бұрын
@@kenttalsma7906 Sear didn't design and build cars, but they had their Allstate brand put on cars built by Kaizer-Frazer. Not unlike having appliance manufacturers build a product line with the Kenmore name on them, or a tool manufacturer supply Craftsman-branded tools. Hudson cars were the real deal....their own unique design. There may have been some shared parts from component manufacturers, but that was and is common throughout the automotive industry.
