Hi Tom, thank you for sharing such valuable content! I would like to take your online course. Is there a way to purchase it without attending the free webinar. I understand the free webinar is module 1 of the course but the time of the upcoming free webinar (this Thursday) doesn't fit in with my schedule. Hey Tom, Great Videos.. keep them coming.Question when I buy the SXR8 ( IE00B5BMR087 ) In EUR... how is the conversion from USD performed ? ( On XETRA for example ) Reply

The same ETF can get bought or sold in different currencies on different stock exchanges - each particular combination of stock exchange and currency is called a listing. It doesn't necessarily mean any currency conversion needs to happen. If I own 5 ETF shares and you buy them from me on the stock exchange in euros, why should any currency exchange be done? It only becomes relevant when new ETF shares need to be created - there big financial companies called Authorized Participants step in and take care of all that.

@@thetomcrosshill So by investing in the EUR listed + domiciled ETF that follows the US S&P ( For example )I am protected from the EUR/ USD exchange rate .. right ?

Actually, I'm not a big fan of stock picking (choosing individual stocks) - for the vast majority of amateur investors, passive stock investments such as ETFs and index funds will get better results.

Does it make sense to invest in ETFs in Austria? Apparently the tax laws here eliminate the compound interest effect

I suspect that's a misunderstanding - there is a tax wrinkle which eliminates the advantage of so-called "accumulating ETFs" as compared to "distributing ETFs", but that is a fairly minor technicality, and ETF investing can still be interesting for Austria residents!

Hey Tom love the videos but I have a question: can I withdraw these investments anytime that I want? Let's say I have 8k in the bank and I want to use those to start a business. If those 8k are stuck in the stock market or in real estate I can't use them to open my company. Sounds like there is an opportunity cost inherent in these transactions.

It's pretty easy to sell and get money out (in a couple of business days). But of course the amount you get out depends on the value of your investments at the time.
