Carolyn, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, get your transmission fluid changed..just have then drop the trans pan, drain fluid, and replace trans filter. DO NOT LET THEM FLUSH the Transmission!! It can really mess older transmissions up very badly. Just get some fresh fluid and filter and it will help your transmission last much longer.

Thank you for sharing the real life difficulties that can happen in RV life, and for pointing out the importance of your emergency fund. That fund is important for every one to have, regardless of their housing situation--sticks and bricks or mobile. You showed us how to handle problems without melting down; with grace. Not easy to do, by any means; you are a good example for the rest of us.

City living in apartment complexes is for the birds. Addicts have been unlocking my door with some type of key copies or something a whole group of people. Some people say its a burglars bump key. I'm thinking about ordering one to see if I could unlock my own door. Im probably getting a Ring Doorbell system.

@@EfficientRVer s a d. T h ing about that is in apartments most are on a master key system. Meaning many wafers in the lock making it easy to pick and I could tell you the math but many other key possibilities. Half cuts, etc. most complexes will not allow Medeco because of the strict key copy laws, but most pattens have expired and keys can be attained. Plus the holes need to be bored out slightly bigger. I’ve done it before but it was always a problem. And I installed them for 20 years so I can’t count how many people ended up wasting money. A good swift kick and the door jam is broken and they are in and now you have to pay for a door and wall… Ya. I hate apartments…

Watching you with the full RV experience is helping me in a stressful time in my life! My ex was a mechanic (a good one) guys like the one you had gives them a bad name! He often said look for the easy fixes first, 9 out of 10 that solves the problem of course they prefer the expensive jobs, your rip off was compounded by unnecessary hotel stay! Keep on, scream if you need too! And now you have our best wishes!

I learned back in the day when I was a single mom that Auto Zone does a free diagnostic reading and gives you a print out of the codes. Its saved me alot after being ripped off because mechanics knew I didn't know sqat about engines. Since then I've learned things a man should know and even put a radiator in by myself.💪girl power. And great job on your plumbing video as well.

@PlayfullyPainting
@PlayfullyPainting Жыл бұрын
Judy no they don't fix it. Its an auto parts store. They can order parts. Its just good to get a free read out because so you yourself know where to start, mechanics go the long way starting with the small stuff and working up to big ticket stuff, by then your broke. It also depends on the mechanics experience as well. So unless you know and use same mechanic all the time. Just sharing my own experiences from owning used cars throughout my life.

If the first mechanic didn't actually fix the problem, you should contest part of the fee on your credit card. There are too many mechanics out there trying to rip people off (especially women and those who are desperate for immediate repairs.) I exposed a mechanic for doing a scam with transmission fluid. They refunded my entire bill and even paid to have my brakes done by another mechanic.

Yes when life throws you lemons get ice cream😂 I can definitely relate to the stress only I did melt down more than once since last Thursday! As I was getting ready to go have 2 surgeries Thursday morning my supply hoses under my 3rd floor bathroom sink burst which flooded the bathroom and as water continued it went through the ceilings of my main floor and basement. There was water flooding all 3 floors of my townhome all at once and yes I was freaking out and cried several times 😢😢 Right now the water restoration company has 15 fans and 3 dehumidifiers all going and it's loud as f... in my house! Hopefully on Tuesday they will be gone but constant noise for 4 days at least. And hopefully no demolition. Although my wood floors and personal items were damaged. When it rains it friggen pours. Now I have to reschedule my surgeries for the cancer spot on my face. Since getting of the road after 5yrs of rv life and buying this place I've had 4 flooding instances, electric problems and wafting pot smoke from my neighbor reeking up my house and making me and my cats sick. Not to mention a year of no physical energy (health issues). It's been a hard year 1/2. But I'm still sober and my healths getting better. Life's about learning how to dance in the rain or in my case raining inside the house OMG

I do the same thing. If I call someone to fix something and pay them and it is still broken I call someone else. In the long run it saves time and money. It costs twice as much to make repairs. I have had people like that get angry, but when they install used parts, recommend replacing something that is not broken, IT IS MADDENING! So many scammers out there!

Not to minimize the stress and expense involved in your mechanical issues, but if you really want to maximize the stress factor, buy yourself a 1981 VW Westfalia camper bus! I had one for 5 years in the 1990s, spent more $$ on it than a sane person would ever do, broke down in some amazing places (and met kind, generous folks because of it), and cried for weeks after I sold it. The unknown can be a bit unsettling, but you have an intelligent head on your shoulders and a practical approach to stones in the road. You can do this!

Fuel problem when temps are high can be "vapor lock" problem caused by a hot spot in the fuel line. That's when fuel becomes hot enough to vaporize in the line, which can create a back pressure in the line, maybe overpowering the fuel pump getting adequate fuel to the carburetor/injectors. Maybe check the fuel lines from tank until carburetor/injector-rail, see if there's an area where they come too close to the exhaust system (manifolds, pipes, muffler, a resonator if exist). "Vapor lock" more commonly happens in higher elevation areas during hot weather.

Hi Carolyn my husband wanted me to tell you that you can get your own OBD reader. There should be something to connect it to under your dashboard by the steering column. You have to have had the check engine light come on before it will read it and then it will tell you the codes. You Google the code and it will tell you what it needs. I hope that makes sense. He said to get the best reader you can afford. You are pretty amazing! ❤❤ We love Sadie ❤❤

1998 Ford Econoline triton V8 van & a 1996 Ford E350 24' Coachman Catalina Sport motorhome. I've had issues with both. Had to leave the motorhome in Texas to hoof it off to PA to help my aging mother. Anyhow, I've dealt with these issues on both vehicles. You MAF is very easy to change out yourself, I did my van's last year. I bought an OBD2 reader to check codes myself. Recently, my van kept throwing codes. Ok, change out the spark plug ignitors. That did the trick. Oops, drove the van on an extremely dusty road, clogged up the pcv valve! ARGH! At least they are cheap, bought a new one, fixed. I have found that the van does not like to sit & idle long, especially when running the ac. That will pop codes. As an alternative to using my reader, I also go to Auto Zone & have them read it. They will give you a printed sheet with suggested problems or parts for the issues. Which was great! Buy the part there, research to see if you are capable of changing it out yourself. It's rewarding when you can do the deed! Hopefully the issues are behind you now.

Carolyn, I just recently had my alternator replaced. My van has done 341,000ks. She's 13 yrs old this year. I have to take the van in to get some panel and paint work done soon, after being sideswiped while parked at a parking lot while at an appointment. Such a pain, as I will need to leave it for three days and pay for somewhere to stay. My insurance covers a rental car, but not accommodation. For some reason, I never considered having to have it somewhere for repairs for that long.

Hope your engine troubles have ended. You mentioned that your PCV valve was not connected. Wow. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation - maybe you already know that. The engine can run, but it may have been your problem especially during hot weather. Love your vids! Peace.

Use your phone and photo the codes. Keep the photo. The next time you have it serviced, compare the codes. Keep your service records as long as you have the rv.

I've been to Vegas 2x and once was enough, but it really brought home the realization that when I vacation, I don't want to be in a place with lots of people and lots of noise. My son is taking me on a trip to Europe this fall (2 weeks) and I told him, one castle and one cathedral, the rest of the time I want to see what the countryside is like.

If this low power thing happens in the future - your vehicle’s computer has put you into limp mode. Sometimes powering off and waiting MAY temporarily clear it up for a while but future failure is eminent. A glow plug can cause this too A computer board failure is devastating - it happened on our Sprinter work van at the worst time - glad your problem was diagnosed and fixed

Oh Carolyn, I feel for you. I'm so with you on this. Breakdowns are frustrating and when the mechanics are incompetent, it makes your life so much worse. I've nor been full timing as long as you, but like you, I exclusively boondock and breakdowns are still in my top 5 fears. Beating that is a wreck. Yeah, I keep wondering, is this it. Am I screwed? I've had to do so much on my own. A story I've had, similar to yours, was having my motorhome run out of power, getting worse and worse. Until the engine stalls and I can't start it again and leaving me stranded on top of a long hill. A very long hike to a store to call a tow truck. After a long tow back to a garage, after putting my own drive shaft back in, after letting it sit overnight, it started right up! It was the one of the most pain in the ass experience. Luckily I didn't drop 2 grand on a useless "repair" on that occasion but I certainly have had that happen on previous "adventures". I wonder if you vapor locked? I believe that was my problem and it's possible it was yours. I'm no mechanic and my Motorhome is older. Hot temperatures plus a hot engine. Running up hill will do that to you. I just noticed parallels. Sigh, I just realize, I have to travel up a mountain pass in 95f temps. You are an inspiration.
