It’s important to teach young people that being gay, straight, bi, ace, etc. is all equally normal. Kids being raised to think being straight is the default, or only option, often end up sexually confused and/or repressed.

Which is extremely common, both among parents and society in general. Also, even though I didn’t use the word “forced” there are actually very many parents who attempt to force their kid to be straight. Ever heard of conversion therapy?? Doesn’t work, but it’s when people (forcefully) try to turn a gay person straight, usually via violent methods. Also, if we want to bring gender identity into the mix, there are thousands of trans people who have been forced by their families into an identity they don’t accept. So yes, people do try to force people to be straight. Although, that’s not even the point I was making, I’m saying we should stop acting as if straight is the default.

As someone who’s LGBTQ+ all I’m saying is that this teaches children to have empathy for those who are LGBTQ+, much like how we encourage children to learn about other cultures Edit: I’m not saying expose them to sexual stuff. As a child my Grandma used to force me to wear those. She was extremely rude, but the shoes were too big and I just kept tripping, I tripped multiple times and she would just let me lay there and scream at me. But crocks are not good for a childs foot. But the thing is, I actually fractured my skull and now have a re-grown bone in my forehead, that is sticking outward a little. I got memory loss, and im extremely un-coördaneted. I fall ofer quickly too. So dont let the kids wear crocks, its dangerous.

People will say “it’s bad to force lgbtq stuff on children” and then try and force their children to be straight 🤦♀️ Edit: I would just like to say, I am a teenage bisexual. Edit 2: I don’t think any child should be sexualized, I just think it’s important that they learn that being lgbtq+ is a thing and that’s ok, and so is being straight! This way they know what they are feeling, no matter what they are, is valid. And if your religion doesn’t believe that being lgbtq+ is okay- I respect that, so long as you don’t make children (and adults) hate themselves because of your beliefs. I grew up with several straight and lgbtq relationships around me, so I’m happy and confident in my sexuality, and have been since I discovered it. That’s all we want. To feel safe in the world no matter who we love. Thank you for reading that whole paragraph 😅

this is really funny, but i wanna do a quick rant As a child, it can be incredibly hard to support the lgbtq+ community since in some cases your peers will shame you for it. In my class, I'm one of the few that actually supports the lgbtq+ community and is a part of it, and my classmates regularly shame me for being supportive. Even though I try to not let it bother me, it hurts that people will bully others for just expressing themselves, and their sexuality.

@@POH341The kid is wearing a shirt and skirt, who cares? Then they have a flag on their back. Again, if you’ve ever watched a Disney show which are designed for kids under the age of 10, you’d know it almost always shows a love story and typically a kissing scene. Is that too “sexual” for kids in your eyes or is it difference because one is a straight relationship and the other isn’t. If a kid is responsible band the parent watches them fine then a 10 year old could defiantly go to pride. Most of the time at pride it’s a bunch of people in their upper teens or lower twenties that go with friends and just celebrate all day. If you truly supervise your kid then it shouldn’t be an issue

@@POH341 I’m guessing most 10 year olds know about sex because they’ve likely started puberty by the age of 10 and have gotten the talk. I believe I was in 5th grade and I was 10 or 11 when my school was required to give it to us. In science that year we learned about chromosomes, puberty, and reproduction and how it results with natural selection. Everything tied together and I certainly didn’t understand everything, I had a good idea of everything by then. Also a flag where each color represents a different thing, such as the color red representing life, isn’t lustful. An image and design isn’t immediately sexual, it’s what that person chooses to do or think of when they see that flag. If you ask almost any lgbtq member they will not think of sex or sexual things when they see the flag, they’ll probably think of love and representation for people like them

@@user-ti6ip4wq7b I’d just like to point out that while a kid shouldn’t be at events with adults themes, it’s safe to assume that this one in particular is family friendly, since I doubt they would let kids attend if it wasn’t. I could be wrong, but we don’t have enough context to confirm anything.

My parents made me wear crocs and I couldn't stand the texture, it was like having to walk on dry crawling bugs ruined my childhood 😔 lol but also kinda serious I had lots of tantrums because of it 😅

Laughing at all the people in the comments yelling about teaching a child about sex. It's honestly laughable. For two reasons. 1) in 3rd grade we had a whole presentation about it where some adult who I'm assuming was a doctor or some sort sex health official or whatever came in and split the boys in one classroom, the girls in the other, and gave a three hour long lecture on puberty, periods, "inappropriate touching" and what was basically a dumbed down version of sex. I was nine. Mind you, I slept through half of it, but my point still stands. 2) teaching a child different types of relationships doesn't mean teaching them about sex. When your child asks if mommy and daddy are married, what do you say? Do you gasp and go "OH MY GOD NO COVER YOUR EARS YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT!!" you go "that's right sweetheart! It's because Mommy and Daddy love each other verrryyy much!" And when your child comments that they saw two men holding hands and one kissed the other on the cheek you don't gasp in horror and tell them to forget everything they saw because men can't be in love!! You tell them that two daddies can be in love, too. Or two mommies. It doesn't have to be just a daddy and a mommy and that's okay!! And then your child goes about their day, happy with their new knowledge and now they'll (hopefully) grow up to be empathetic and kind instead of judging everyone and everything around them.
