I had the same issue on my old qashqai’s 1.5dci engine when a glowplug failed. It had over 180,000 miles on it at that stage and I was dreading taking it out. But I did some prep work on it beforehand by soaking all the glowplugs in WD40 every day for a week after a drive when the cylinder head was hot and had expanded and so the WD40 could find its way down the glowplug threads and eat away the built up corrosion. So the big day came to take them out and first off, I slightly “tightened” the glowplugs to break any remaining corrosion and then slowly undid them. They all came out without any “squeaking” or hesitation despite being the original glowplugs that had been in the car 12 years. When I examined them, the glowplug threads were full of muck which was the now dissolved corrosion that the WD40 had done a job on. I’d say if I hadn’t done my prep work, they’d have all snapped in the cylinder head. I’ve gone back to petrol now as they’re much easier engines to work on.

Been there before with glow plugs, no point risking it if they feel terrible like you say. I normally fire some more deblock oil down the threads before I put everything back together so maybe next time it comes in the stuck ones have a chance of moving

Maybe that bit of the glow plug went into the turbocharger 🤔

When replacing glow plugs I douse them with penetrating oil, get the engine to temp put some more pen.oil and never had an issue they fly out so to speak. That's my 2 pennies worth...

I think glow plugs should be changed every 3 years on a service interval but obvs manafuctures don't bother I had to do them on my 1.6hdi Knocked the tip into the cylinder and used the lazer pick up magnet through the injector hole to fish it out
@neilhampson284320 күн бұрын
I have a Jaguar XE that had a failed glow plug, unfortunately the tip of the plug snapped off and scored the cylinder bore, Not a good day. It also had a burned exhaust valve and seat, as well as two burned/melted pistons. Not bad for 78000 miles.

I watched a video today on O' rileys autos where he had turbo overboost on a JLR AAabdcit was a sticking throttle body on the inlet, common problem apparently,just a thought.

If you look glow plugs are 7v not 12v most likely melted the tip with 12v down it, have made the same mistake before 😅
@user-kk2bo4de8m21 күн бұрын
how would it do that ?
@rosspaginton821221 күн бұрын
@@user-kk2bo4de8m well it depends on the resistance of the bulb, but the voltage would actually be shared in a series circuit between both meaning if both consumers have the same resistance each consumer would have 6v but with different resistances on the consumers it could potentially supply the glow plug with more than 7v
@rosspaginton821221 күн бұрын
So if the glow plug was high resistance and not a complete open circuit, it would draw all of the voltage potentially so the test lamp wouldn’t light up as the glow plug is consuming all of the voltage potentially melting it

Question, from a preventative maintenance perspective at what age would you generally replace glow plugs, whilst remembering/balancing the older the plugs are the more challenging they can be to extract ?
@AnthonyAE86IRL20 күн бұрын
If you can get your glowplugs out and clean the treads and apply a small layer of anti seize to help stopping them sticking, and if your changing or removing plugs, get the engine hot is your best bet to get them out

With the glow plug been worn like that, would the under boost problem cause that? It would mess with the air to fuel ratio. Also, i fuckin hate glow plugs. So many are seized in. They should be changed regularly to stop massive problems in the future.

Today was a graft. Vacuum pump and servo on a discovery tdv6. Too hot for that shit.
@AnthonyAE86IRL20 күн бұрын
Generally glow plugs are only used for start ups to heat cylinders, which is why they can be such a pain on start up with bad plugs, From my experience I found with codes for under/over boost to check MAP sensor in manifold, diesels with EGRs love to cake the manifolds with sludge and carbon, or if the EGR cooler is leaking internally it’s mixing with the soot and going straight through your intake and can also block up exhaust pressure pipes and sensors
@williamgould285520 күн бұрын
i would pull no three injector .and test it
@RideBikes_Walkplaces20 күн бұрын
@williamgould2855 yeah a leaking injector or a bad spray pattern could also cause it.
@rhysellis266620 күн бұрын
P2bae-00 only relates to adblue level low. Bad description on non gen scan tools nox performance 🤦good to clean the injector though. turbo will be shagged. Glow plug will be melted, most likely high egt/combustion temp due to faulty injectors. Fekin ingeniboom. Landrover instructions state to remove inlet manifold to do plugs 😅 (tech at a Landrover specialist for my sins)
