Grew up as an embassy kid, the MSGs taught me how to do everything from tying my shoes to tossing a basketball. Mad respect for these guys. Semper Fi Marines.

I remember walking down the street while overseas and not knowing I was close to the US embassy in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. There was a massive chinese police presence keeping anyone from getting near the sidewalk out front and to the entrance (machine guns, turrets on top of vehicles, etc) as it turned out that this was just days after the Snowden incident and nobody knew if he hopped to the mainland or what. Walking passed the front entrance, I saw one of the most beautiful Cadillac cars I’ve ever seen. Custom, deep black, so polished and clean you could eat off of it, etc. pulled in through the front gates and a massive ass Marine got out from the drivers seat wearing full dress blues. Guy had to be at least a good 6’6 or 6’7. Guy was built to match the height. I honestly chuckled when I saw him and then glanced at the typical chinese policeman on the street. I know who I’d place my bets on. Glad to know people like him are guarding embassies and Americans around the world!

I grew up a Foreign Service brat. These guys did a lot, to keeping my family safe to teaching me a lot of life skills while my father was shipped off elsewhere. The Captain posted to our embassy in Athens was the first guy to teach me to throw a baseball.

As an MSG, This hits home so hard. I proudly state, with tears in my eyes, I am very proud to serve in all 180 Diplomatic stations at the same time because Marines are just that Flexible. ORAWR!

sure has changed since my day in the MSG's Words of wisdom from a Old Gunny, if you young hard chargers want to get your ticket punched and you plan on staying the the Green Machine you need to do a complete tour not relieved for cause or any infractions to get relieved this will do it for you, then do the Drill Field later on and you will be set: Semper Fi, OOH-RAH GET SOME

i think all Gunny are the same i heard the same thing a few times and use to laugh about it i had mine Gunny ask me one time why I got a good laugh when he tell the shop that i had him laughing when i told him my dad was a Marine from 52 to 56 and when in the Air Force after that and retired in 73 i have heard that all my life till i when in the Marine reserve he did get a good laugh out of that one but what was a shock was the Gunny knew my dad and i ask him from where he told me Khe Sanh 1968 my was a combat air controller my dad use to tell me he when in the Air force because he had it walking in fields with people shooting at you how little did i know up to that point i only knew he when TDY there that was it

You can apply to MSG straight from boot-camp now after school house, think they only taking 03XXs. I honestly don't recommenced it though as you will miss out on the fleet experience but if traveling is your primary goal then go for it.

MSG (Marine Security Guards) work in US Embassies and diplomatic missions around the world and fall under operational control of Diplomatic Security Service (State Department). MP (Military Police) are assigned world wide but fall directly under the operational control of their respective military branches usually enforcing law on US military bases.

rene torres you need to have a gt score of 100, 1st class pft, it's only for e4 and up, have to be a minimum height of 64inches and must have a security clearance
