I read one who suggested that the horse guards be reported to the National Veterinary Service cos, as a “horse expert” she didn’t think the bits they used were right and didn’t think the harnesses were good enough and didn’t think the horses should be made to stand for so long and she didn’t like the way they slapped the horses necks when they were going through the dismount procedure. etc. If she was such an expert she’d know that the horse is trained to prepare after one slap on the neck for the entire weight of the rider and his heavy uniform to be briefly concentrated on one stirrup. Of course, like most people who just like to show off their superior knowledge about all things equine she didn’t think it was down to her to report them, she just thought someone else should. The care those horses get is second to none and that includes veterinary care. And the guards know their horses well. I watched one video where Arnie started weaving. He conveyed the message that something wasn’t right and his rider picked up on it immediately and Arnie was taken straight back to his stable. The horses get water when it’s hot during their hour on guard and a soldier cools them down by wetting their necks. The only thing wrong with the way those horses are treated is by ludicrous tourist who think they have the right to paw them for the benefit of their holiday snaps.

Very well said . So many tourists are ignorant brats. Have no interest in our traditions and military, just want photo oops. For their social media . The soldiers and horses deserve more respect !

" that horse is in pain , so thirsty , sore mouth , lame , so tired ,looks sick, sore back having that heavy man on his back all day , they shouldn't hit the horses so hard it'll hurt them , cruel bits , inexperienced riders , I could go on . Some comments are funny though , I did hear one who thought they should train the horses not to do a poo while standing in that shed 😂 . As for the " experts " who from watching a few minutes of video know all about the tack and how wrong it is and how the horses should be trained and ridden . I tell them to contact the Household Cavalry with their opinions I doubt they do though . At times I just have to switch off and read a book instead .

Lightworld From Vancouver Island, BC, Canada I heard Arnie was not well. The other horse that Bites is Ormonde. They keep their spaces well “cared” for and care for their guard. I love the horses and the guards. PS these are genuine soldiers. Many have lost their lives in fighting overseas. RIP for their country.

@@lightworlddouglas4601 I have the utmost regard and respect for these soldiers and horses. I would never be so presumptuous to think I could just walk up and start petting one of those horses let alone touching the guard. I hope Arnie is well now and back on duty., better yet, just enjoying being a horse again. I love that horse. I’ve been around horses all my life and they are very smart and intuitive animals. Considering a horse can feel a fly that lands on them is amazing. Being able to connect yourself with your horse and being able to work together as one unit is one of the most gratifying experience in life. The human has to earn a horses respect and trust, not the other way around. The fact that people automatically go to touch the horses nose irritates me to no end. Horses are prey animals and the fight or flight aspect is usually flight. The way a horse sees is totally different from humans. It takes them a while to focus when looking down. It’s not like a human can look down and immediately focus, like there is a step or object in our way. Especially, these horses are always looking around at all the activities and sounds that constantly bombarding them. Their ears back is them letting everyone or anything know not to mess with them. It's a signal to the horse that the Trooper is preparing to dismount , the slap on the saddle prepares them for the change in weight and to stand still . They are trained this way .

They aren’t stomping they are marching and executing step timed turns when changing direction or coming to a halt.

Not Arnie. Arnie is black and his mane falls on the other side. But could be taking lessons from Arnie.

They bring them water! And if they don't want to drink and you can't make them drink they rub them down with water. Don't judge from one video.

They have plenty of water both before and after duty buckets are brought out to them during the 1 hour duty .
