Hi Joseph... these videos are just awesome but the ones that are posted on the website 11 years later....just splendid. You have been so encouraging in those videos!! Sometimes when I feel bored of studying for the toefl test, I watch your small group tutoring videos to get refreshed and bounce back in preparing for it 😄😄

I got my score a few weeks ago :D R 26 L 29 S 27 W 25 total 107 (I needed a total of 89 with 21 in writing) So I just wanted to say thank you for these great videos, it really helped me a lot to prepare myself for the speaking section (which I was the most afraid of because of the short amount of time available for the preparation of the answer). Thank you again, I'm going to share this video to everyone who needs help in preparing their test! Kudos!

I have just taken the test this month and I got 104 : R 26; L 27; S 26; W 25 . I just want to say that the test was not very hard but wasn't that easy though . The timing is crucial especially in the reading section you have 20min each text with a total of 4 texts. What I wanted to share with everyone taking the test is about the speaking section. I haven't practiced it until the last day so I just watched the Speaking playlist on this channel , took some notes but I was surprised that on the test I did not get the same kind of questions just a little bit different so I could not fill the same templates as given here . However I managed to take some notes from what I have heard and just dealt with it . Anyone having any question feel welcome . Good luck to all .

Oussama Elouali Hello, what differences were there in the speaking section? Since I have to be taking the test at april 12th.
@OussamaElouali
@OussamaElouali 9 жыл бұрын
Zain Shoaib If I remember well ,the differences were only on the 4th and 3rd question , if you have watched Joseph playlist about the speaking sections , you'll probably have taken some notes in form of a template to fill in while listening to the conversation, for example in one of the questions you have to spot the answer of each speaker and note his arguments and then the text that Joseph gave at the end to deliver while speaking depends on what you'll hear , in my case there was only one speaker who gave his opinion and his arguments so the template didn't really match . To sum up be prepared that you won't find the exact same thing and while delivering your answer don't stick totally to the template if you have memorized it just speak naturally about what you have heard in a fluent way. Good luck

Oussama Elouali Hi Oussama. That's an interesting point, but please bear in mind that this is exactly what we teach. Question 3 will only present the opinion of ONE speaker. This is the only format we teach, but I'm sorry if that is confusing.

That's fine because you're still expressing your opinion about the topic. My only concern is that you may run out of things to say with that statement or you might go a little off topic. My major recommendation is to keep it simple and, well, stay on topic. If it's easier or just as easy for you to support only one side, do that. Remember; your score comes from your clarity, structure, content, and word count, not your opinion. Great question. I hope this answers it clearly. If not let me know.

So there's quite a background noise. When I recorded myself I put loud dubstep music in my earphones while speaking...

Your structure is really helpful. I am going to take the test in a couple of months and the first obstacle that I found while I was preparing was the speaking test because the time is too short to assemble all of your ideas, they come like a rain and you don´t know how to embed them in order to deliver a good answer. Well mishocker, if you're able to defend both sides it actually shows more fluency. But, you can get a perfect score by only supporting one and it's easier too. You have to do some extra work to support both sides and still sound clear and logical. I would recommend keeping things as absolutely simple as possible and just support one side.

@hope4toefl Great question. The TOEFL is asking these questions more and more often. Answering is the exact same: In my view, the person that I dislike most is Bob for two major reasons. First, he's rude. For example, last week I asked him to give me a ride to the airport. It would have been okay if he just said he was busy, but instead he told me that he wasn't a taxi and became angry with me. Bob doesn't exist, but fortunately for us he provides a great example. I hope that helped.

Yes, I do. But, remember that this template is the easiest and most effective and my students have used it to achieve 28. But if you don't feel comfortable, erase the phrases but use the same structure. For example: In my view, xyz is a great snack for two reasons. First, it makes me healthy. For example, when I was . . . This becomes: Xyz is a great snack. It makes me healthy. When I was . . . That's a more fluent, natural, common way to speak. I hope that helps. Good luck!
