Maestro is a gold medalist in guitar. It’s always evident that his string sections are always world class. His guitar and bass are totally underrated. People never appreciated enough his work on the instruments. Every instrument is given an important role. Which is why, at 40 I’m still listening to Maestro’s songs on daily basis. Im a car and home audio diy enthusiast. I build high end systems just to hear the highest possible clarity on Maestro’s songs. The separation of instruments in a song shows he was ahead of his time. DAP+DAC+Class AB amps+ high end speakers are just put together to listen to his songs. I would’ve heard a certain song for nth times, yet i would be still completely immersed. That’s how magical his compositions are. Truly genius. Whom we failed to acknowledge due to our own ignorance to separate the musical genius and his personal traits.

The legendary Viji Manuel had played bass for Raja before Sasi. In fact, it was Viji who kind of mentored Sasi before Viji took up the role of a keyboard player for Raja. Viji Manuel changed the way bass was played in the Chennai music scene. Interestingly, since you mentioned Hey Ram, it was Viji who played the Piano intro and the interludes in Nee Paartha Paarvai. The legend Viji Manuel passed away sadly, but he has been a very underrated musician who has always been behind the scenes for many iconic music directors and songs. Viji Manuel was the son of the legendary and iconic Handel Manuel. Great show, by the way, very interesting conversation between you two. I could very well relate to Berty's fascination towards bass because I myself am a huge fan of bass.

@@VR471IR fans are terribly outdated, they just trip over very predictable sounds from the instruments. Yup, with a lot of complications in composition for what it's worth, when all of his songs only have the least mysterious blend. Mysterious blend is about positive and negative emotions, the way IR constructs his music to justify the emotions less standard, I'd say. His outdated fans (before clarifying, I don't want to call people who listen to IR songs that are pretty much trapped into his music because IR music left an indelible mark on their psyche as Outdated) -"I would certainly characterize those born in the '90s, who have no direct connection to IR's era, try to protect some inferior dogma that IR produced so aligning sounds on negative and positive emotions really! I would definitely call these people awfully outdated. Listening to some predictable frequency and boasting about it is silly.

Porcupine tree or pink floyd is indeed a pleasure to listen and mainly experimental, but the day i realised that indian music especially Raja sir's music had all these genres ranging from Trance, psychedelic rock, ambient, prog rock and i was shell shocked that day and till date i m like proud enough to boast about this to my friends whenever they say they dont like Indian music much but on contrary drool upon bands like tool, pink floyd, p tree, king crimson etc.

Especially songs like - megam kottatum, roja poo adivandadhu etc. Gosh these are complex and have drum solos and what not, Raja sir was truely way way ahead of his time. Thats why it make sense and still certain things cant be deciphered in today’s date.

Brilliant video. Regarding independent basslines, regular rock bands didn't used to write them much but progressive rock bands used them. I am thinking Tull, Camel, Genesis, Yes, etc. It's possible that they influenced Raja because the late Viji Manuel had once mentioned about introducing progressive rock to Raja.

I wish you to create an episode explaining Counterpoint usage in Raja Sir’s music. If you do I would like you to include “Metti Oli Katrodu”, “Thendral vandhu”, “Poomalaiye” and “En Kanmani Un Kadhali” song. Also his usage of low pitched phrases in his songs. We can encounter it in the above mentioned songs. Creating something like that and making it loveable is something really great. I wish you to explain those songs . ❤

I follow Vijay videos from very old Temple monkey (Gold biscut and Pushpa videos) with Shara and team. After temple monkey 2.0 transformation got bored watching only Office series videos. I missed Professor Rangabashyam and Puratchi tholar (phone call with thozli) those videos are really fresh and made a unique set of fan base. Frankly speaking Vijay speaking tech (or) football is good but I don't feel the connect. But this video vera lvl connect and feel. Hope he does Professor Rangabashyam and Puratchi tholar (phone call with thozli) videos sometime later.
