The line "to remember what you ARE to him" and not "WERE to him" suggests that she is currently with the other person. It also ties in with "to fall asleep without you lying next to me," which suggests that Vessel can't fall asleep without her there. When Vessel sings that line in concert, he tends to put a lot of longing in his voice and finishes the line with one of his sobs. This song is perhaps my least favorite from this album simply because it's the least delusional version of Vessel; I exist for Vessel's deranged mind, I THRIVE off of it. But lore-wise, I'll admit it's crucial to his story. Prior, he was always the victim; he gave us a snippet in "Blood Sport" and Sleep's perspective in "Higher" about how he also instigated and lashed back in the relationship, but he never fully admitted to his actions like he does in this track. This reality version of Sleep is giving fallen angel vibes, where even Heaven - probably an outside support system like family/friends or even the relief of substances - isn't opening their gates welcomingly anymore. Vessel wants to be that relief for her, even willing to put aside his own desires for her, but she's abstaining from him.) I guess that's the best way to describe this song. This is definitely gonna be ranked at 35 for me. I love this song like any other Sleep Token song, but this song does feel like I'm missing something. Considering how clever Vessel is, maybe that was the point. Either way, I'm truly sad that we're moving on from this album. It's hands-down my favorite, and I am a hopeless nostalgic... but this feels like an appropriate send off.
