'You think I'm weak don't you? All of those years ago when we first fell in love, your father would say I was too sweet for my own good. Maybe he was right. You tell me it's a cruel world, and we're all running around in circles. I know that. I've been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. everything everywhere all at once is about intergenerational trauma. about depression and passive suicidality and the gravitational appeal of nothingness. about aging, getting older in your twenties and getting older in your fifties. about the specific hurt mothers can cause their daughters and daughters their mothers. about the harsh reality of the immigrant experience and the american dream. but it’s mostly about kindness and family and it’s about choosing to sit at home talking about taxes with someone who loves you, and it’s about telling your daughter that you’d choose her over the entire universe, and it’s about how even in the universes where life didn’t form, love can still exist. and it’s really all of that at once. So glad you finally watched it and great review!!

I saw this after hearing a lot of praise for it, and I was simply blown away. One of the best films I've seen in years. It's absolutely bat-s#!t crazy, in the best way possible. The entire cast really brought their A-game. And kudos to the entire crew (directors, costume design, choreography, score, etc) for pulling it off. And even more impressive was the entire film was shot in only 38 days.

Thanks for your reaction! I personally think it absolutely deserved the Oscar praise. It’s one of THE most creative movies I have ever seen, and I love movies. To come up with something truly fresh and original these day in any case I think is brilliant. And this movie not only does that, but has great performances and choreography to boot- plus it’s fun! But to round it out, the story is good. Not only good because through all the craziness, you have an emotional, family story, with a good message, but philosophically- the writing touches on nihilism in a very interesting way. Nothing matter. But not in a despondent way, it’s like- the ridiculousness, silliness, pettiness and yes, even grossness of some things in the film- none of that matters. Evelyn, and Waymond, and their Joy, your Joy, kindness, and happiness- they are what matters. So yeah- big fan of this movie. I know it’s not for everyone, but it is for me.

This was a movie that the world needed coming out of COVID, even though it was made right before. There is a Japanese concept where the intent is recognized in the creator’s art. EEAAO hit me to the core of my soul! I lost my father last year and the movie's commentary of searching for a version of your parent that will get the whole of who you are - just moved me! My favorite part is when Waymond says he fights by being positive, I cried!! This is an Oscar worthy movie on every level! Yes this movie changed movie history. It looks really like It is the syntesis of all movie production since the very birth of cinema, with a new hyper-language. Multiverse was the key element which allows to follow multiple lines, infinite "what if", and build up the deepest analysys of human existence which i have ever seen or read. There Is something supernatural in this movie. I am agnostic but if i were religious i would believe that the hand of God touched Danies soul and wispered in their ears the movie's script .

The bagel represents Nihialism, the philosophical belief that life has no inherent meaning or value, "Nothing matters". But "Nothing" and "Everythying" are both absolutes, which can both be represented by Zero, which is also the shape of a bagel. I think the message of this movie is that if nothing matters, then that means everything matters, so we get to decide what matters and what doesn't. There's no point in worrying about what could have been, because you're here, right now. What's important is that you are kind and accepting and that you are at peace with the uncertainty.

I'll always be grateful I got to see this film on a huge IMAX screen in a pre-release screening with a huge audience. I went into it knowing nothing other than that Michelle Yeoh was in it, and I've been a huge fan of hers for decades. It was one of the best movie-going experiences I've had in forever, with the whole audience reaction to the roller coaster of fights and emotions and surprises. Definitely no other movie like it. They had originally written it with the husband and the main character and offered it to Jackie Chan, but he turned it down and that let them get Michelle and rework the script for her to be the main character and made the film what it is. And having Ke Huy Quan return to acting after a few decades and KILLING it, which led to him winning almost every award he was nominated for was just fantastic. This is now the movie with the most awards ever won by any film. So nice such a crazy, small movie won all of them.

I LOVE Swiss Army Man, so when I saw the trailer for EEAAO and that the Daniels made it, I wanted to see it immediatly. It is so beautiful, so smart, so stupid and just funny and emotional. This movie for me is so much about inherited trauma (the father couldn't love his daughter the way she was so she ran away and now the mother can't love her daughter for who she is so she feels the urge to run away) and about nihilism. The feeling of 'I can do whatever I want and try as hard as possible, it doesn't matter' is something probably everyone knows and that's something that can cause depression and the feeling that our life and our choices doesn't matter. That's what Joy is going through, no matter what she does her mother always seems disappointed, so why even trying?! She put everything on a bagle and it's all the same, nothing matters. That feeling is so relatable, but spinning it around to a positive take on nihilism, that if nothing matters, if everything is the same we can just choose to love and be happy and it just as important as two small rocks falling down a cliff or two planets colliding, that's what makes this movie special to me. I had and have troubles with mental health for half of my life (I'm 30) and chose to become someone like Waymond and act on positive nihilism a few years ago and it does make things so much easier, to see these concepts in this movie gives me so much joy and and confirmation.

It helps some people to understand the movie that originally (throughout the shooting of the movie even, and only taken out in editing) that Evelyn (and presumably Joy) have undiagnosed ADHD in the base "real" world. This wasn't intended to invalidate the Multiverse explanation for things, but only to provide an alternate interpretation. It was taken out, the directors said, because they didn't want to pigeonhole one manifestation of Attention Deficit symptoms. I do think they may have also realized they wanted to lean into the "reality" of the Multiverse a bit more, because some people feel cheated if they think something potentially invalidates what they just saw. Ultimately, the film is about the idea of Nihilism, and how "nothing matters" can be flipped on it's head to go from the obvious (negative) explanation, to an alternate one where it simply means you're free to make your own rules and not stress over the weight of your failures. The Googly Eyes exemplify this. The bagel is a black hole with an empty center that eats and destroys everything. It's a glass half empty view of the world, at best. But Waymond is glass half full. His symbol, the Googly Eyes, are the inverse of the bagel. It's filled in where the bagel is empty. Evelyn, and Joy, accepting this is the action of the plot, the destination.

"(Filmed this video before the Oscars)" Yep, okay, that explains so much already 😂 I know you had to cut this down for KZfaq, but how did you cut out Waymond's "kindness" speech *and* the final nihilism discussion between Evelyn and Joy?! That's the emotional core of the movie!

Oh jeez, it looked like some innocence was eroded from the family watching a couple of those scenes. Looking at the complaints in the comments, it is hard to tell what people want when they watch reaction videos. Do they want to see the reactions or do they look for people to react the way they want them to react and then get upset when they do not? The discussion at the end covers what scenes they did not include in this edited video.

Tbh guys and this is a positive criticism,y'all literally cut some of the most important scenes . Yeah I get it y'all can't show all scenes. But this reaction is nothing without Laundry and taxes scenes ,all the deep philosophy and everyone else have reacted to those lines and y'all just cut a major chunk of reaction. Like show us the reaction of scenes which really did matter. So y'all should edit the reaction according to the important parts . Cuz not all have patreons. I have seen many reaction channels and they have reacted on the important scenes. But this reaction literally has no important scenes at all. Especially the scene where Evelyn realises Waymond is the missing link . Also post discussion is good, but the real time reaction is what makes it special.

I absolutely loved this movie and love that it isn’t the typical Oscar bait movie that won awards. I will say all I could think about is you being a sweet Christian family…and the adult toys scene that is about to happen and how I was concerned for the kids feeling embarrassment and pain during those sequences lol. At least it wasn’t a steamy sex scene nothing worse than a scene like that coming on during family movie night. 😂

Maybe it's the editing but it feels like they never understood the message until the VERY end and even then, not really. I hope they did. It's a good message to receive.

it's nice to see a family reaction. i don't see that a lot. my only question was why you guys cut out all the instances including waymond and evelyn's relationship. everytime there was a moment that described the nuances of their complex marriage, it wasn't in your reaction, not even one scene. You even skipped the laundry and taxes scene which was so iconic. It was kinda strange, a bit upsetting...

It appears that once again, I am in the minority on a movie that everyone apparently loves. I went in knowing absolutely nothing about this film, except that it was getting rave reviews and all of the Oscar buzz. Frankly, I don't know how it was even nominated for Academy Awards, never mind actually winning them. But hey - - Different strokes for different folks. I enjoy your channel and the family's reactions. Keep it up!
