Greg lake has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard...still makes me cry

The best Progressive Rock Music Group ever.

My dad was at this show aged 19, saw a lot of bands since then, and still says this was one of the best he went to. His fandom of ELP rubbed off on me, still listening 2021 during the covid pandemic!

It’s been around 40 years since I’ve heard this. It’s a shame life keeps us so busy that an album we used to play so often every grace note was tattooed into our memory we don’t have time in that long of a period to even go out to the storage shed and find the LP. Great vinyl brings it all back without a single YT commercial to disrupt the return to my former life in a long forgotten galaxy. Now back to hell for me. Bless ya.

Noquestion this is an absolute masterpiece from Emerson. Lake & Palmer and I am still amazed about the quality of this groundbreaking record. ELP were a Top group seeing them Live play was a pure joy love this music still today and it does not sound outdated at all. Wish we would have music today in this quality . Hello men, yes I heard this miracle for the first time in 1977, I hid my violin under the bed and only played the piano, I didn't have a Hammond organ. These three men taught me music, thank you very much ELP. I cry and write it, I hope you can understand me.

I remember in1972 arguing with my music teacher at school about this album. He played the Hammond solo from great gates of Kiev and said it was just a load of nonsense rubbish! I told him that if he played the whole track and not just that part in isolation he might learn something. I explained to him that seeing this live at a show was an amazing experience. He played the track as a whole piece and the rest of the class agreed with me.

Simple amazing what these three guys produced live one take no editing and one of the best sounding recording ever!

I haven't pulled this one up in decades. So much music since then. What a wonderful world. My folks had one of those Magnavox console stereo TV units. 12 inch woofers, tweets and horns, mid-range 5's. I'd crank this album up while they were out of the house. Rattling the rafters at 15.

Recorded 26th March 1971 at Newcastle City Hall , Newcastle UK and I was in the audience, I was 14 years old!!!. Keith Emerson played the opening on the City Hall organ then ran down to the stage. My prog rock days ! I still have the original album on Island records and was released on their budget HELP label for £1.50 !

This album came out when I’ve was 5 . My brothers and I wore out the copy. I had to be a drummer because of Carl Palmer. Unreal masterpiece. Thanks for posting this

This has to one of my favourite albums of all time. I have always have loved Mussorgsky's music and playing classical music for many years - this blew my socks off when I 1st heard it in 1971!

Modest Musorgsky was a great musician, this a nice little tribute to his Brilliance, he wrote about the pictures at an actual exhibition. I congratulate the acustic guitarist here.

I used to put this on our livingroom console when I was a teenager and my sisters and little brother would do the "monster walk" to that tune at the very beginning....I got this album one year for my sister in later years and she said it brought back so many memories.

This is my favourite recording of all time. My wife is a classical musician and we frequent the local symphony. Can’t pass up Mussorgsky ever. It never gets tired. ELP rocks it the best!

My Favorite Album!

When I listen to them, I go back in time. This band is a unique device for time travel, thru their original music. It envokes memories in our minds, and I am not alone - thereby I we get to re-live the past of the 1970's.

Great bass playing. Used to listen to this as a 11 year old... can u imagine that now...still stands the test of time...all 3 were brilliant. Tarkus is still my fave. The triple live is bloody good too.

Discovered this amazing rendition of my favorite Romantic era composition when I bought this LP from an older collector.

I have had a slightly musical gap in my life lately. A kind of emptiness within that I have tried to find new music to fill. ELP has been in my background since I scratched my dad's records in the mid 70 trying to play them. Always like them and loved a few of the recordings. But now almost 50 year's later ELP fills up the emptiness within. And I'm so happy to have them as a part of my life.

Fantastic album, listen to that crowd roar at the announcement! My workmate’s pal was at this concert. I sold all my old records, but soon to get a record deck and all analogue system and start buying some of my old favourites again. This record is one of the first on my list.👍 Update. Managed to get an original pressing of this album in great condition. Am at this moment playing it loudly on my new system and it sounds bloody brilliant, what a way to piss off the neighbours😂😂😂

I'm back to my teens again. The band that widen my horizon of music. I grew up with hard rock such as DP, LZ and others but this ELP really shocking from the first time. Until now I'm still starting my day with Tarkus.

Saw this played live in San Bernadino, CA back in the late 70's. Will never forget the piano rising into the air and then rotating while being played. Who needs lasers?

ELP back then were almost punk. Borderline reckless, but they got away with it cuz they were that good. It's the quality I wish they could have held onto.

I have not listened to this for years in full, especially in vinyl. Must admit it does sound better than my original cut that was on the Island label. Probably due to it being worn out in the 70's!!

Sir, this is probably the best transfer to KZfaq from vinyl I ever heard. This album was perfectly engineered (especially in early '70s!). I have listened to it a billion times since I got mine in the early '70s. Nothing is over driven, the audio clarity and quality is excellent. I no longer have this album. I am greatly moved! That they made this recording so well, in the infancy of electronic music instruments (Moog) and drums were difficult to record. John Bonham from Led Zeppelin talked about it back in the day. Well thank you for uploading this. Greg Lake's voice and guitar is not washy as heard in other transfers, drums and cymbals are clean and crisp! This is perfect! Now that you did this.. would you happen to have a copy of "Welcome back my friends..." ?

I saw this movie when I it came out. There were no other MOOG synthesizers featured in music, at this time. Keith Emerson experimenting right during a song. Lake's guitar work, vocals can just melt a person. AND THEN KEITH IS BACK FOR ANOTHER ""TRIP"". PALMER, well, what can I say.......💥BANG!

I mail-ordered this album in the early 70s, perhaps from Virgin Records (they got their start as a mail-order company). When it arrived, it was on the Manticore label. Side 1 was PAAE, but Side 2 was Fats Waller Live. I keep it around for no reason. I have a good version on the Island label so everything's okay. Today, though, I usually prefer the original solo piano score. In classical circles it's known as a show piece. I never really liked Ravel's orchestrated version. The first Promenade (the opening piece) is magnificent, so grand, it absolutely sends me. I love the way the concert begins with the announcement _"We're gonna give you Pictures At An Exhibition"_ - and the crowd instantly goes absolutely WILD with enthusiasm! Must have been pretty sophisticated crowd.

We had so many bands in the 70s teaching us to think & feel music. ELO, ELP. Genesis, Jethro Tull, Steeleye Span et al. Sadly many musicians of my era have played their final note on earth but their legacy is timeless. The spoken song named RAP cannot compete.

This LP me launched my intererest in classical music...my parents heard me playing it,got me the solo piano version by Mussorgsky,then the orchestral arrangement by Ravel...then I found out a brass band version by The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and a Tomita synth version...This LP on view is obviously a reissue as it originally appeared on Island Help,a cheap budget label release...later reissued full price on Manticore.

I was there. It was quite an experience. Mind you I do prefer the classical version, although the lyrics of ELP are exquisite, I'm listening to them now. I, and I'm quite sure many of my generation identified with them, poetry for the poor, idealism . What the hell, it's great.

Greg was quite the bass player as well as one of my favorite singers.

This album turned me on to classical Pictures. Haven't heard this ELP version of Pictures in at lest 30 years because I lost the LP. ELP turned me onto the orchestral Pictures at an Exhibition which became my favorite classical work. I was a huge fan of ELP in high school and they were the first concert I ever attended--at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. I got into jazz in college and Emerson's strong jazz and classical background really grabbed me.
