Disney has failed terribly with STAR WARS and has yet to recoup its investment in the purchase of Lucasfilm. Disney Lucasfilm should have respected and listened to the creator George Lucas.
Discussions relating to the possibility of The Walt Disney Company signing a distribution deal with Lucasfilm officially began in May 2011, after George Lucas's meeting with the then Disney CEO Bob Iger during the inauguration of the Star Tours - The Adventures Continue attraction.
Lucas told Iger he was considering retirement and planned to sell the company and the STAR WARS and Indiana Jones franchises.
On October 30, 2012, Disney announced a deal to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, with approximately half in cash and half in shares of Disney stock.

Out of all the Star Wars movies, Rogue One is probably my favourite. As good as Empire Strikes Back was, it has aged. If they can make another like Rogue One, then I will let them off the hook for the last 2 sequel movies.

See that’s why Tolkien never liked the Walt Disney company: because they never did study mythology with anything other than a modern simplistic view. And he was alive at the same time as Walt himself. Funny thing is that this same mentality still exists in Disney to this day. Water everything down so that the postmodernists can enjoy it.

Selling your own Film company is like selling your own dreams and visions in regards to directing. You still need to hold Lucas accountable. He could of sold to that group in Japan who were hardcore fans and wouldn’t of thrown out legends and definitely wouldn’t of pushed this PC garbage that ruined these last three. I’m almost willing to bet we’d be in the third to fourth movie of an Old Republic movie series about Bane or even better, Reven. Lucas knew all of this. Because we knew all of this before he sold out to China ... I mean Disney. There had to have been multiple pitch meetings to discuss the future of this universe. Nobody wanted to watch a Mary Sue do literally nothing while some purple haired freak made us all feel bad for simply having a penis. Or watching a very mad Hammel gurgle blue milk as feminists pissed all over his legacy. I don’t feel bad for Lucas. I don’t care how he feels because he consciously made the wrong choice for a bigger pay day. Now what little was left of his legacy will be the butt end of every nerdy star wars joke for the rest of history. Lol.

@@MR.ICE. I can blame him. He had a choice. He consciously made the bad one. He knew China’s direction was the wrong one. He knew the group in Japan would have stayed faithful to the source material. Because one thing I do know about life is you never make people like you by constantly pissing on their hands. I actually liked the prequels. I mean it obviously has some flaws, but Lucas’ majestic story telling was still there. The pacing was perfect and what ever political ideas he had, was definitely played to the back end like in the original trilogy. If I stub my toe, it hurts, but I learned a lesson and make it a point to be more careful. Logic and common sense. Lucas just kept kicking that wall. So fuck him.

@@oneup1entertainment19 Movies are a work of art. It's not entirely about money. Most writers and directors have a vision they want to show everyone. Money can be a factor for some of the decisions made but it's not the core reasoning for those making the movie. George lucas started purely with a vision but by the time Return of the Jedi came, he had some focus on the money aspects, which was primarily about toys. The prequels were the same with some focus on nostalgia milking instead of great story telling. When Disney took over, it become all about money and tripling down on the nostalgia milking. Even when they hire directors to make their art, Disney is breathing down their necks demanding they stick to the formula that they know works. This is why any Disney movie feels bland and like you're seeing the same thing over and over; it's designed for idiots.

However it’s better than changing the fundamentals of Star Wars with no explanation. Deleting all non-cannon and some cannon books. And bastardizing the force. They could’ve and should’ve done better. Also tbh I’d prefer is Disney didn’t buy Star Wars and just kept it where it was. It didn’t need any new movies or shows tbh. It was strong enough.

George.. After all these years, please please know, that we love you and we miss you. We miss YOUR Star Wars. You created it and without you, Star Wars wouldn’t exist. You knew EXACTLY what you were doing. You had a vision and you wanted to tell a story, you did that perfectly.. And collectively, as fans we will always respect, love and appreciate you for that and the world you introduced us to and how you’ve changed and influenced our lives. And on behalf of the fandom, seeing now where and how Disney and the current Lucasfilm staff have bastardised the franchise.. I am truly sorry for the way the fanbase treated you, the actors and response to your STAR WARS movies. He can't leave anything alone. I lost faith in him when I learned that he altered his films when they got released to the public in the 90s. Now you have to track down the laserdiscs or certain vhs tapes to watch the original films in their original cut. He's done these retcons and post release edits with almost every single one of his movies, adding cgi to decades old movies where it's not even needed, it's sad. Should've just left them be George

@@DamianHowardTV it's the principle of it for me. The need to go in and meddle with things that are already beloved by fans. Then making it impossible to watch the originals by only releasing your new cut basically erasing the past and changing your history by altering your work retroactively. It's really not a good practice but he's done it with almost every movie he's made even outside of star wars

@@sonicseducer69 I see where you come from and in a perfect world, we should have easy access to all versions of the movies. Say, in Disney+ you could choose between the original and every revised version of A New Hope, kinda like rolling back updates in software or games. However, I'd say these changes by Mr. Lucas are A LOT less bothersome than a new company taking the franchise that you love and turning it into a loveless, bland facsimile of the original work. Taking characters you've grown fond of over the decades, and then absolutely demolishing their arcs and their accomplishments. And on top of that, what little novelty they bring to the table, they also ruin. I wanted to like the sequel characters. They had a lot of potential. But in the end, they're just slightly altered copies of the original cast, but completely squandered with no true depth added. Disney could have been bold in a lot of ways, but played safe with the story (bar The Last Jedi, which I actually enjoyed the most out of the 3 movies. That doesn't mean it's perfect, though) and just ended up with a messy husk of Star Wars.

Episodes 1, 2, and 3 all sucked, and they still suck, but at the very least, there was a coherent and cohesive story arc, that did not rehash the original trilogy. Kathleen Kennedy lied to George’s face, telling him she intended to honor his legacy, knowing full well, that what she really intended, was to use her new franchise as a vehicle for pushing toxic feminism. She was so smug, and so inept, that it never occurred to her, that there should have been some story arc planning from the beginning, with directors who could maintain continuity. She and her cronies drove Star Wars off a cliff, and into the dirt.

The reason why George's version of the sequels never happened, is because of Kathleen Kennedy. She knew those plans and was supposed to fight for them, convince disney to make it, but she didn't. She betrayed George Lucas and wanted to USE Star Wars for her own deeds, which ended up failing.

and with a passionate team by his side ensuring he went on the right track, which was why the OT was such a success. Unfortunately it led to a pedestal of legacy so high that when he made the prequels, the team he hired were shit scared to say “no” to him, leading to the PT clusterfuck. However, seeing what followed from the sale, I would take the PT anyday compared to the Extended Trilogy fiasco. I am glad though that the demise of the ET has led to the Mandalorian series starting to bring the Star Wars IP back on track, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau et al bringing the passion back into Star Wars, long may it continue.

@@mcdonaldssauce7095 they had very bad dialogue I grant you that but it had world building and did something unique that was ahead of its time. It actually dives into issues we face today before it was “cool” to do so. Prequels specifically did this a lot. George wasn’t afraid to dive into political and ideological beliefs. Star Wars would show us racism, pandemics, corruption, economic hardships, cultural conflicts, horrors of war and the cold hard reality that more often than not it’s the bad guys who win. Disney avoid these like the plague and would rather have a friendly goofy adventure with lasers and friendship then having to take a risk and try something new. Where in the end love wins overall because it’s the right thing to do. George showed us that it’s not love that saves us but more often than not causes a great amount of pain and may just lead us down a path to our own worst nightmare.

Exactly! Regardless of our political leanings George Lucas did something we all cater to which is escapism for those who want to escape and adventure for those who hunger it. I can see George really regrets his decision to sell Star Wars to people who I admit HAD a potential to make good movies but after fuck up after another I feel like I waste my energy for hoping some sort of redemption from Disney. I lost my interest for Star Wars when I watched dozens of solid criticism for Ep 7-9. Until one day I completed KOTOR 1 play through. KOTOR 1 seriously reignited my interest for Star Wars. It so painful to know that Disney pretty much retconned Whole KOTOR franchise and old republic era not to mention Expanded Universe itself.

You people have to become to understand, Disney like any other major entertainment corporation is working under an agenda. It's not just entertainment anymore, it's value wash. In the agenda, their units are the ones who install values and ideas into populations unassumingly. This is why their products feel so chaotic and broken: because they do not conform and harmonize with the existant ancestral psyche of human mind, but rather try to break against it and instill a new post-modern set of values, rules and psychological construction. It doesn't feel natural because it isn't. It's a gradual mind heist. They are grooming you.

George's real gift was foresight. He put the pieces in place to domino into the industry changing technologies we rely on today but that wasn't solely him, those were teams of talented people working towards something bigger. George's underlying success was knowing that nothing could grow under the thumb of others and building the foundation of his work truly on his own shoulders. Because of this his body of work will not only live on as one of the most beloved works of fiction of our age but also the seed to the most groundbreaking technologies to come in the industry. What a legend.

One thing many people fail to understand is that Star Wars, despite its futuristic setting, is based and has its soul rooted in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology as well as in they’re epic genre and even they’re political structure. That's exactly what some p don't like about the prequels is that while yes it gave more depth to the sequals and the galaxy as a whole, it had mitoclorians in PM, some lack luster writing (GL isn't a good writer, he's a good world builder), and a meh ending. The Revenge of the sith ending could've been better bc the deleted scene where padmae had the knife shouldn't have been taken out.

While I will always have respect for Lucas for being the brainchild of my favorite series, I can't forgive him for leaving his creation in the dirt, permanently, to gather dust. Disney might make a lot of mistakes in their Star Wars films/shows, but you know what? At least they EXIST. Lucas made the far bigger mistake of giving up on Star Wars altogether after people endlessly criticized him for the prequels, which are suddenly not so bad anymore now that you all have new movies to shit on. How many of you cried and complained about Jar Jar Binks, the useless battle droids, Ani's love story, and the political side of Star Wars? It was those people that ultimately caused Star Wars to be abandoned and sold to someone who doesn't care about reputation nearly as much.

@ I never said he owed anyone anything. Did you get a little triggered because I said people like you were the reason Lucas gave it up? He didn't give it up because he got old, (he's STILL alive, you know?) he gave it up because of a fanbase that had become hypercritical, as demonstrated by the reply after yours. I loved the prequels, they brought depth to the Star Wars universe that the OT couldn't dream of, and I love what Disney has done with Star Wars with the exception of the sequels. (Really just 8 honestly; if Disney stuck with one director the whole trilogy would have worked so much better. Abrams had a bunch of storyline and arcs in 7 that Johnson just abandoned in 8, and instead of adapting, Abrams tried to do damage control in 9, instead of reworking the story.)

I wouldn't say lucas let it die after the prequels, I mean sure we had years before we had any decent star wars material but between those years we had books and games come out during that time. Then we had clone wars and george was there alongside a good chunk of that project.

I've lost interest in Star Wars, I knew they where killing off the old cast etc. But the way they chose to do it was horrendous. Thankfully my daughter didn't like the new SW either so I didn't have to watch the last movie.

Like saying piss is better than shit. It's on record the original movie was saved in editing and Irvin Kershner was the director of the best movie in the franchise. In the end it was 3 great movies about space adventure, the mistake was trying to recapture that with boring stories overloaded with special effects (prequel) and having no set in stone plan, terrible writing, a middle movie that derailed everything, while the company seemed to attack the very people that wanted to give them money (sequel).

This guy is such an interesting person, he’s not the superficial Hollywood director that only wants to make money. The prequels are a masterpiece and a very well composited work. They were FULL Star Wars. Even the mandalorian knows how to portray a Star Wars story with the Star Wars essence in there. That’s what we have to go for. More content from people that truly understand Star Wars. We keep trying to tell ourselves the sequels are trash but hey it’s what we got right? NOOOOOO if we want better we should speak and make our voice heard. It’s us vs Disney now... we are the ones who can make Star Wars great again, lets accept it so that we can start working on something better for Star Wars

but that's not going to happen if Disney keeps throwing nostalgia bait at the fans (like Rogue One and The Mandalorian) and the fans keep eating it up. it will just tell them to keep doing what they've been doing, but with empty and hollow OT nostalgia thrown in. Rogue One and Mandalorian keep pushing the same agenda we got in the sequels, only "less obviously": and the fact that the fans love those in particular demonstrates that they didn't *really* have issues with the crappy writing of the Disney sequels, only with the fact that they soiled their OT nostalgia while doing so (see also the unflagging love for KOTOR 2, the blue-print for TLJ). we need a complete overhaul, a rewrite from 2015 onward.

I loved this universe as a kid, watched the OG with my father and even pledged my nickname to the character of KOTOR, and now, as a man, I cry and scream inside my soul, seeing this massacre of my beloved franchise of all time. The prior of design is for corporation rather than backstory and lore. These are truly the dark times. I miss you, George

Always had massive respect for George Lucas. Any Star Wars 'fan' who attacked him after the prequels should be embarrassed. Criticism is fine of course, but acting like the guy is a moron who should take no credit for the original's success...that's just ignorant.

Me too. People are just confused or plain stupid, what can you do? I hear all the time George was an idiot and sucks, yet in the previous sentence claim they "LOVE STAR WARS." Obviously, they have no clue what STAR WARS is. Just because it has the name slapped on it doesn't mean it has anything to do with STAR WARS. Oh well, ignorance is bliss.

I'm with you guys. I love the prequels, they inspired me to become a professional digital artist. It worked, I make a good living. Prequel haters are the problem, they drove Lucas to sell the franchise and quit. They made two of the actors suicidal. It's so easy to criticize when you've never created something yourself. Lucas is still a creative hero to me, we need him back.

That's so messed up for people to bully him just because they're jealous that he got to be part of something huge. Yeah, Episode I is my least favorite of the Prequels because of how cheesy it is, but at least Episode III makes up for the cringy scenes in the first two. Episode III is my favorite Star Wars film.

That's why I belive the one true cannon timeline is: The Phantom Menace (32 BBY) Attack of the Clonez (22 BBY) Revenge of the Sith (19 BBY) A New Hope (0 BBY) The Empire Strikes Back (3 ABY) The Return of the Jedi (4 ABY) Because that's Lucas' vision and soley his work. That's the true star wars story. I love clone wars, legends, comics, books, etc. But this is the true star wars story.

@@angerami77 the story isn't really incomplete. You get the idea of what happened. Of course the lore being expanded upon and giving us all those great stories and characters is awesome though. But I don't really care about a "true" canon anymore. It's been a few years and I've gotten over that phase of being a fan. I like pretty much all of the content and accept the Disney canon.

Nobody has explained to me yet why using the Battle of Yavin as a historical benchmark makes a single bit of sense when it should be Post Empire.

@kylekillgannon because it's the first movie and the big ending of the original. Plus, the Empire reigned for years, so it would add another clarification. Pre-Empire, Empire, Post-Empire. With two of those having overlapping initials. There have also been so many different governments in the galaxy that singling one out also doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. But pretty much the main reason is that since it's the climax of the original, it's easier to base the timeline around that. So you know it's relation to the first film timeline wise.

You know, considering the many Animated movies Disney has made, they should already know these things. I just don't know how they drop the ball with Star Wars. Before, the Fandom hated the Prequels for its bad writing (mainly in the dialogue). While time did allow it more gain validity, the Sequels gave us much more appreciation for its story. If you also watch BTS for the prequel trilogy, George even acknowledges that mistakes were made. Disney though... nope.

Yep. Theres no baseline to follow. Plus characters that are badly written and forced to fit certain agendas... The Sequels were made to fail. Luckily Boyega and Isaac buried their roles for good. Even Mark says hes done for good. How much have to happen till Disney realized their wrong way?

Dave filoni is a continuity wizard. The last trilogy is a soup of recycled sets (shots even?) it gives palatine his epic sith ending and ties up the skywalkers but I suspect they built most of the films around those sequences and scaffolded towards that more than anything. It's why it does such a poor job picking up the torch to begin with. Its not perfect but it's the ending they got. Let filoni stitch it back together and we'll get yuuzan vong/thrawn face-off eventually.

@@kentomarek6823 he really isn't' he was able to fill out the blanks of the prequels mostly because the people who booed out Lucas couldn't be bothered to 'watch kids cartoons _boo boo'_ i.e. he's kept continuity in spite of disneys trend sensitivity. Landing us in a place where most people are like: 'right, creator driven content is better.' but yeah, more likely than not he's not making enough.

I’m pretty sure Star Wars was mass marketing itself long before he sold it to Disney. George definitely cared about the money. Like how he said Mel Brooks wasn’t allowed to make Spaceballs toys because people might confuse them for Star Wars toys and would thus hurt their sales. He also, unlike Disney, massively micromanaged a lot of EU products (games, comics, etc) to the point where he squashed artistic expression from other people who wanted to create their own stories in the universe. And that was almost always to the detriment of the product. George also did not care for any lore but his own, often completely disregarding or downright disrespecting a lot of other people’s contributions to the Star Wars mythos. On top of the fact that, while yes, he is responsible for Star Wars’ creation and the bulk of the original ideas, he was also responsible for running those ideas into the ground by creating ALL of the movies worst additions to the franchise. And it was ultimately Irvin Kershner and the many, many EU writers like Timothy Zahn who shaped Star Wars into something greater. The sequels may not be perfect (no Star Wars movie is) but they’re a damn sight better than the prequels and would still be a damn sight better than the ideas George could have cooked up (look up some of the ideas he wrote for his own episode 7 script and tell me that’s what you would have wanted to see). Disney’s Star Wars is a mess, but it’s not that bad. Oh, and he co-wrote Rise of Skywalker. Yknow, the universally panned sequel? The one that EVERYONE says is bad? The Last Jedi was at least divisive. And the Force Awakens most of everybody liked. And he had no hand in either of those films. Think on that.

Are you sure GL wrote episode 9, that's the first I've heard of that. Disney had no plan in place for the sequels, just coming up w things on the fly, and episode 9 was the definition of a hamfisted, mile a minute mess. They disregarded 30 years of lore by dismissing the EU, and instead of adapting cool characters or stories from that, made their own thing which was not good at all. I personally didn't like episode 7, it felt like a boring bland inferior remake of episode 4

Yea, Disney is failing “all the way to the bank”. They bought lots of content, SW among them, over the past 10 years, and now they’re using Disney+ to cash in big time. Mandalorian was a huge hit, and Disney, not GL, did that. I don’t understand “never succeed” comment.

No matter how much one could agree or disagree with GL, at least he did his research when he wrote Star Wars. He tried, to the best of his abilities, to tell a story rich on myth and fantasy. Disney SW is just propaganda, that's why the sequels failed.
