Clemson picked up the huge 31-23 victory over No. 15 Notre Dame at home in a win that made head coach Dabo Swinney the winningest coach in Clemson football history. Phil Mafah was the dominant force for the Tigers all afternoon, as he carried the ball a whopping 36 times for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. Mafah accounted for all but 99 yards of the Clemson offense all by himself. QB Cade Klubnik went 13-26 and 109 yards with a passing touchdown in the win. Defensively, LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. had 11 total tackles, 2 sacks, and a pick-6.

And EVERYONE was saying Clemson was Dead and Dabo needed to pack his bags. There might not be a Dynasty in Clemson anymore, but there IS still a Team that can compete and win Big Games. Lots of Shake-Up going on in the ACC, so don't take your eyes off of it! Well Done, Tiger Nation!

Notre Dame might as well start Steve Angeli with Kenny Minchey mixed in at QB for the rest of the year. They lost 3 times already and now are only eligible for a mid tier bowl so why not bench Sam Hartman and actually play the 2 QBs that they recruited. The season is over anyways so lets get ready for next year to see which of these 2 QBs are your best option for next season. Sam Hartman will probably sit out the bowl game anyway and declare for the NFL but good luck with that since Sam Hartman's stock downgraded.

What happened to both Notre Dame and Nebraska in the 21st century? Not only no National championships for either school in the 21st century but no major bowl game victories either with just mid tier and minor bowl victories. Both Notre Dame and Nebraska won several National championships in the 20th century and both have many major bowl victories and were mostly good to great teams in the 20th century with just a few bad seasons from time to time. Now in the 21st century both schools best team sports are from a woman's team sport with Nebraska's woman's volleyball a great team winning National championships from time to time and with Notre Dame it is their woman's basketball team with 2 National championships in the 21st century and also playing in many National championships that they lost and usually playing in the sweet 16 or better almost every year in the 21st century. Woman's sports is where the victories are at with Nebraska in volleyball and Notre Dame in basketball in the 21st century.

😮South Bend Tribune Suggests ND Would Benefit From Conference Play. The paper writes "This is how quickly a season slips away when you’re independent and can’t rely on clawing your way back to the conference championship game to offset any setbacks - first loss, and the national championship chase is toast. Second loss, and the College Football Playoff spot blows up. Third loss? So long New Year’s Six bowl game, something the Irish waved good-bye to Saturday afternoon."

Disagree with the SB Tribune Sportswriter who suggested ND would "benefit from conference play." Point 1: If ND joined a conference for football, they would ruin their special NATIONAL DRAW enjoyed by NO OTHER team in the Nation! They would relegate themselves to becoming "just another regional/conference team," and cease being the NATIONAL team with a strong following in EVERY State. (Ironically, in a malicious attempt to "kill" ND football, envious U Michigan actually caused/forced ND to become a "National team" over 100 years ago by blackballing them from joining the Big 10 and coercing/intimidating other Big 10 schools to NOT schedule games against ND -- thereby forcing ND to go all over the Country just to put together a season schedule). Being independent in football allows ND to schedule games all over the country against teams like USC, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State, Clemson, Washington, Oregon, Florida, etc., etc. Point 2: The concern about "too many losses destroying a chance at the playoffs that being in a conference could redeem" is illusory and of limited duration. That concern holds ONLY for this present season -- we wouldn't be making the playoffs anymore this season anyway. This season (and previous seasons) where there are ONLY "FOUR" playoff spots available, the participants will ALL be undefeated OR have 1 loss at most. The committee will NOT select a 2-loss team UNLESS only 3 teams have zero or only 1 defeat -- highly unlikely. BUT next football season brings the 12-team expanded playoff -- a situation that actually favors ND being independent as opposed to belonging to a conference. A 2-loss ND team as an independent can make the 12-team playoff easier than they can as a conference member because it's their INDEPENDENT NATIONAL SCHEDULE that will enable ND to distinguish its 2 losses from 2 other losses that they would accrue playing the restricted regional schedule the conference dictated. But this is still good only for "access" to the playoff; the singular disadvantage ND has in the expanded playoff is that they MUST play on the road in the playoffs IF selected to participate in the tournament; that's the "penalty" assessed for NOT belonging to a conference in football where they would (presumably) have had an opportunity to play a "13th game" via Conference Championship Game. Point 3: It's HIGHLY UNLIKELY ANY team with 3 regular season losses would ever qualify for the 12-team playoff anyway -- UNLESS it's a freak season wherein NO teams are unbeaten and only a couple have "only" one loss, with most "name" teams having at least 2 losses. Under those circumstances, it might be possible for a 3-loss team to sneak into the #11 or #12 playoff slot -- especially IF the 3 losses occurred early in the season against HIGH QUALITY playoff teams and were CLOSE losses with ND having to play shorthanded (injuries). IF under that scenario ND played dominant, lights-out football down the later 2/3 of the season (including some quality wins over playoff teams), then I could see ND as an independent making the playoff with 3 early losses (particularly if most every team has a loss or two) -- but I could NOT see a 3-loss ND team belonging to a conference making the 12-team playoff because ND would be unable to distinguish itself schedule-wise from the other 2 and 3 loss teams within the same conference, let alone all the other conferences.
@robx2972
@robx2972 6 ай бұрын
@wingedbuffalo4670 I think your points are well taken. However, I'm not sure that ND football players should be made to feel like their season is a failure if they don't make it to playoffs or championship game (every year). I bet if you gave an anonymous poll to ND football players, I'd bet they'd indicate a desire to play in a conference championship game against a conference of their peers. Athletes also like to play for bragging rights, going after conference trophies. ND players never know the feeling of hoisting a conference trophy in the air. When you get a chance, look at the faces of players taking pic w/ with their conference championship trophy. They are so proud.

To all the ND Haters clamoring for them to be dropped out of the Top 25: try to put the unbridled hatred aside for a moment and apply some HONEST and OBJECTIVE analytical perspective. Deservedly so, ND SHOULD "drop," BUT NOT "out of the Top 25." SIX teams already BELOW ND in the NCAA's "Top 25" prior to yesterday's games LOST yesterday -- should ALL of them (i.e., not "only" the #25 ranked team before Saturday) automatically be swept out of the "Top 25" ??? If the ND haters say "no" (i.e., let's keep some of Saturday's losing teams in the Top 25 who were already BELOW ND prior to their losses while still selectively targeting ND to be jettisoned from the Top 25 after a mere 1-score ROAD loss to a well-coached, SEC-like blue-chip talented team [regardless of record]), then such a logically inconsistent, blinded-by-hate response automatically renders the demand absurd and unworthy of being taken seriously. If. however, the ND haters say "yes" (i.e., let's eliminate ND and ALL teams below ND who lost on Saturday from the Top 25), then not only will "recency bias" this late in the season have a disproportionate impact, but also one had better hope that none of the 7 new teams who suddenly enter the new Top 25 (i.e. those who replace ND and the other 6 Top 25 teams who lost) have 3 losses or more AND/OR have softer schedules. I also find it curious that ND is seemingly the ONLY team that receives the groundswell hatred to eliminate it from the Top 25. Not even one peep of criticism for being allegedly "overrated" applied to 3 other teams "above" #12 ND in the Top 25 rankings prior to Saturday's games (e.g., #10 Oklahoma who also lost their second consecutive game to an UNRANKED team [albeit a rivalry game]; #7 Texas who barely held on to "win" a HOME game in OVERTIME by 3 points against the #25 barely-ranked team, or #11 Mississippi who similarly also "won" at HOME by a mere field goal against another UNRANKED team). NOT that I'm clamoring for those teams ranked "higher" than ND -- two in particular ranked very close [#10 Oklahoma and #11 Mississippi] -- prior to Saturday to be thrown out of the Top 25 for either losing outright or BARELY "winning" ugly games at home against FAR INFERIOR opposition (i.e., pointedly, I'm NOT arguing for that) ... BUT I do find it amusingly hypocritical that ONLY ND seems to "merit/enjoy" the over-the-top, selectively targeted hatred to be eliminated for losing a close 1-score game on the road to a well-coached, SEC-like blue-chip talented team possessing greater quality depth than ND. Fair-minded analysts would likely place ND around #20 in the new Top 25 this late in the season with roughly 80% of the regular season's games played, give or take 2 slots (i.e., anywhere from the #18 to #22 range).

Jeez , another promising season goes down in flames 🔥, we're back to getting beat by Clemson again. 🤦 Oh well , us Notre Dame fans are used disappointment.💯 Hopefully , we can get through the rest of the season without any more loses ( I have a bad feeling about the Stanford game though 😨 ). GO IRISH !!!!!!!!!!! 💯🍀🍀🍀

I never took Clemson lightly -- especially at home in a "must win" game to silence all the Dabo naysayers. You MUST remember that, even though Clemson struggled uncharacteristically in a couple of games this year, they still possess LOTS of "Blue Chip" talent on the order of most top-tier SEC teams, and actually have SUPERIOR talent DEPTH over ND. So when ND shot themselves in the foot with those turnovers, they sealed their fate because they had NO margin for error. "IF" ND wins the last two games on their schedule, they will finish 9-3 -- with a CHANCE at another 10-win season IF they show up with their "A" game in the bowl game. Although disappointing for where ND fans wanted to be, it's NOT a "bad" result for Coach Freeman's SECOND season at ND -- let alone as a "head coach" ANYWHERE (let's not forget the ND job comes with unique "spotlight" and "pressure-cooker" challenges). Also don't forget that Dan Devine -- who had been a head coach for MULTIPLE college teams AND the NFL Green Bay Packers before ever taking the job at ND -- won a National Championship in 1977, his third season at ND ... after losing 3 games in each of his first two seasons on the Irish sidelines (in 1975 ND finished with an 8-3 record, losing to Michigan State, USC, and Pitt; in 1976 ND finished with an identical 8-3 regular season record, losing to Pitt, Georgia Tech, and USC ... but then also defeated Penn State in the Gator Bowl to have a final record of 9-3). Given all the above, ND fans can cut Marcus Freeman a little slack -- even if the record may remain the same, he's getting better as a head coach, and he is MUCH more of a "Notre Dame man" than Brian Kelly ever was. Of course, as noted, there is NO "guarantee" that ND won't lose again this season. The Stanford game is definitely one to beware. BUT before worrying about the 12th game on the schedule, the Irish need to focus on Wake Forest and Senior Day.

In addition to what the other poster said, Clemson's primary RB was out for injury. Mafah in his place was showing out bigtime and this game was a good opportunity to test him thoroughly. It paid off.

It's more a receiver and o line issue but Klubnik is correct in saying the O-line is opening up some nice running lanes so that's a great movement in the right direction for an effective passing game to to also take root. At least on this highlight reel, the best passing series starts at 2:25. Notice he only takes a second or two at most before he takes a shot. That's effectively all the time he's got in the pocket.
