my person died 19 days ago. being nourished by what is left behind is a nice thought. he isn't left behind, he just rejoined the place from which he came, from which we all came, and he is waiting for me there. until then, i will experience this life to the fullest capacity that i can, perhaps in spite of how much i miss him, how much i loved and continue to love him.

Videos like this remind me that John is an internationally recognized author. Like... damn, dude just drops this gems like it's just another tuesday.

Where I live there are many large aspen groves. Because these trees are all connected through their roots (and technically one organism) their leaves change almost instantaneously across all of the trees. From within these groves, there are golden yellow leaves as far as the eye can see, all nearly the exact same shade of yellow. I love being able to witness this, thanks for reminding me to go see an aspen cluster before the leaves fall.

The idea of explaining Fall to aliens is so cool, because there are probably lots of aliens whose home world has no axial tilt (and thus no yearly seasons) or is tidally locked (so their star doesn’t change places in sky).

Everytime John says "let´s go outside" I know I have to prepare myself to hear John's beautiful talent for writing.

The joy of being able to say, “Hank, I’ll see you tomorrow.” And for it to be true, not just a wish. Geez. I don’t think that I had cried the tears of relief that Hank is ok before now. My heart is glad.

I love that the root of "encourage" is "cor", the Latin word for "heart". Thank you, John and all trees, for putting heart into us today.

At first I thought it was "our trees are nourished by what **we** let go of," meaning the trees take in the CO2 from our breaths and in turn let go of O2 which we breathe in again. That's another beautiful and encouraging sentiment. Thanks John!

i live in a place now where the leaves don't turn as much. it makes it that much more poignant to see a maple tree turning, a you said, the color of the sun. im always surprised by how much it settles something in my soul. thank you for reminding me to place my attention on the heartbeat of the world today.

I've found a lot of joy watching the leaves flutter and swirl through the sky on their way to the ground. It reminds me of cherry blossoms or confetti, like fall is celebrating the start of the season.

As a non-earth folk, by which I mean an Australian whose homeland has only one native deciduous which I've never even seen, I do indeed find it phenomenally beautiful. I sometimes get jealous of not having the kind of seasons you read about in Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, Matsuo Bashō poems. But this land of course has its own beautiful seasonal charms. I remember that in Noongar language, a traditional language of one of Australia's first nations peoples in Western Australia, the closest equivalent season for that Fall/Autumn that they have in that country is called is considered the season of 'adulthood' as it is the time to build and repair shelters to ready for winter. I just looked it up and it is called 'djeran' and is the time for flying ants and red flowers.

When my Dad passed away, I often thought in my grief how he was the nurse log that nourished me into life and will continue to do so, even in his decay and absence. I've never been to Indianapolis, so certainly haven't ever been to that forest. But at the same time, watching this video I could swear I've been to those places, and seen the scenery a thousand times. I'm sure most of the "shared beauty" is because settlers from my country went to America, cut down all the native wildlife, introduced all their invasive species, and generally "ruined" the natural world. But I only exist to feel joy watching this video, or walking in a forest because of some of those very same settlers... so I'll carry on thinking that me and John walking through the same different forest, on the same different days, to feel the same different feelings of calm is beautiful.

In the park by my house there's a row of huge lovely trees that always drop a load of leaves onto the path during the first big rain of autumn, and over the course of a week or two you can clearly see the layer of leaves being crushed and merging with the soil of the path by people walking on them. I love this process and how it reminds me that I too am an organism, I too am part of an ecosystem.

Seeing Nerdfighteria making waves of positive change has helped me feel my personal power radiate brighter from within, highlighting the ignorance that casts shadows in my heart and shrouds potential hopes from founding the faith I need to Be more Awesome. I am so deeply in love with all of you. But with the fall season, its time to let the wave of epic awesomeness ripple out into the universe and thus pass away from us. But trust me, Nerdfighters... the goodness from these massive movements we have created together is not only going to reflect in the proper healthcare of Sierra Leoneans and Tuberculosis patients. We must open our hearts and prepare to receive new ans greater information about how to Be Awesome!!! Our ego could get in the way! Kind of weird hearing autumn being talked about like this, because I've lived in New Zealand my whole life, where practically every plant is evergreen. I don't really see red/orange/yellow leaves. It's still pretty nice

I’ve been explaining this process to my infant who is witnessing this cycle for the first time (we’re in Australia so we’ve made it back to green leaves now). It’s certainly made me appreciate the beauty of it with fresh eyes.

I am from the Southern hemisphere. I am seeing lush fresh leaves start to fill the now often blue sky outside my third floor apartment windows. For many months it's been just grey sky and bare branches out there. As a person who has struggled with my mind, I understand the trepidation that can come with the weather turning. I hope at the end of our summer I can remember this video. Both because I love the idea of nourishment by what we leave behind, and because it will be nice to think about John getting spring ✨

As a mushroom hunter and enthusiast, John casually showing a chicken of the woods mushroom (albeit one the bugs have got to already) has me screaming.

Its incredible how much of life's beauty we take for granted because it's routine to us. Spending time actually thinking about the cycle of leaves falling and regrowing, and how the fallen leaves then nourish those same trees they fall from is both beautiful and very comforting.

I love moments of lucidity like this, where we're invited into a perspective akin to a greater awareness and connection to everything, but built on observation rather than speculation.

I'm not an alien, but I did spend the first 6 years of my life living in the desert, then moved to northern California--i still remember how absolutely floored i was by all the colors of the trees, down every street, on every yard! It's gorgeous and stunning and every year, I still find it beautiful, even after growing accustomed to it.

I can see two large trees from one of my windows. Tiny pockets of leaves on the end of a few of the branches will start to change color before seemingly all the other leaves in the neighborhood. Those tiny patches of brilliant yellow among the rest of the green are one of my favorite things about this time of year. If I ever have to explain that to an alien, I'll just show them this video.

The mushroom you showed is called a Chicken of the Woods mushroom! It’s a choice edible mushroom (in the yum kind of way, not the fun kind of way). Happy foraging!

When I walk through the forest I like to imagine that the trees are like Earth's mantle exploding and its interior rising upwards, tendrils stretching out into the sky. I am beneath the canopy, within their arms, and together we make this rock floating through space shockingly unique. The phrase teeming with life is often used but it's more like this place is made of life. We do not walk within a world---we are the world. It's one flowing unity. There is no separation. There is no true loss, only exchange.

“Our trees are nourished by what they let go of” - Upon hearing this, I just went ''woah'' and for some reason the poetic nature and philosophical depth while it is in actuality simply a statement of facts, made me tear up. I wanna say ''never change'' because your skill of creating thoughtful yet simple sentences continuously amazes me but I have a feeling you'd have quite a brilliant reason for telling me that changing is what has allowed you to become the person you are (or something like that)... Thanks again for the amazing content and thought causing phrases, I truly appreciate them - from a guy in Canada who also gets to witness the beautiful cycle that is autumn.
