I tried to tap 3/8 inch plate steel with the Voyager and it did not like it. So on to thinner plate.

Nice, this is a through hole, but will it tap a blind hole without bottoming out and causing the machine to emergency stop itself? For example if I pre-drill a 6mm deep hole in stock that is 8mm thick, then tell it to tap threads 5 mm long that would give me 1mm of space before it bottoms out, that seems safe. Basically is it smart enough to detect the bottom of the hole and reverse itself?

It will if you set it up to do that. It doesn't detect anything other than a measurement.

How do you change this to tapping mode. I can only get it to reverse for 1-2 seconds.

Press and hold the "on" button then press "off" it will sequence through stop, reverse for 3 seconds, reverse. until quill is returned to top.

There is a a potential seller in Australia. Apparently they "over bought", with the intention of making money, until their account was deleted! Now they cannot even get a refund
