This song hit me hard. I was a raging alcoholic but I finally got sober. After I commented below, soon after everything changed. I got my family back. My kids have told me many times how proud they are of me and that they forgive me. They know that I am doing my best. When my son’s team lost their playoffs, I sent my son a text from this song. “Son, I know you did your best. I know there’s more to you than the wars you lose, you’ll see.” Thank you for giving those words. Through this song, I finally found a way to forgive myself for all that I have done. I now have the ability to be the father I want to be without the shame. I cannot understate how your work helped me. One day, when things are going wrong, I want you to remember that YOUR work brought this broken old man back from a bad place. I can’t help but think God will bless you as you blessed me.

@@billysnider4824 are you comparing political misinformation to.. music without meaningul lyrics? Do music have to have lyrics to be "real music"? Can it be instrumental only? Id also like to mention that while this song is decent, most genres have songs with meaningful lyrics. You not enjoying something doesnt make it less real music lol. My grandma wouldnt call this song real music, as an example.

I am glad you have come to an understanding that your father was doing it to keep your family afloat. I sure wish as a Chef de Cuisine that I was not in a place where I have to spend my days delivering late night fast food orders, but it is what it is.

This is actually about her family. She wrote it after her father died in the accident. Then her grandmother died of Parkinson's a week before they shot the video. She's since sat on this song and video for a while not sure she was ready to be an artist again. She was signed to the music label Def Jam and her big dream turned into a nightmare. I'm happy she's sharing her art again, and her and Tom together are building an empire. This song makes me cry so much.

My Dad died at 60 yrs old 30 yrs ago. He grew up in the thirties in a large Family . He was the oldest .He wanted to go to school . But because he was the oldest he had to go to work very young. His brothers got their education and had successful careers while he had to slave away working in small town Papermill along side with racist a holes. I I never got to say 'I knew you did your best' but I did say I love you before he died . Appreciate your Parents they did their best.

I lost my dad almost four years ago. It was two days before father's day. He could barely speak by that point so I asked my Mom if I wrote a letter to him if she would read it too him for Father's Day. (I couldn't be with him because of lack of finances and childcare) Sadly, he passed before I could pour my heart out to him. Like you, I did get to tell him that I loved him a few hours before he went unconscious. Miss him so much... 😔

I grew up with my mother, who had NPD, ( narcissists personality disorder), she abused me in every way . I didn't know why, but I knew she had an awful childhood too. We fought eachother constantly, and I skipped state at age 16, before she killed me. Now at age 44, and just out of an abusive 16 year relationship from hell, ( I was moved state and was locked on a house for 4 years by my ex.), I basically had to live thru what she did, to understand her, and how she got her personality disorder , ( from childhood ptsd too, I have BPD - borderline personality disorder). I haven't seen her or any of my family for nearly 5 years now. I've had 9 months to process the damage done to me, and am finally living life !!! I slipped thru the system here, got no psychological help as promised , but I have healed myself, basically!! My goal is to go home, and have a much needed heart to heart with my mother before she passes. I pray I'm not too late 😓😓😓💝💝💝

My husband died on 4-4-16, at 33 years old. Our daughters were 3 and 4 at the time. I have done everything that I can to show them videos, pictures, and tell them my memories. Even though he died very early, I still want our children to know what a happy and healthy relationship looks/looked like. We were a happy and loving family. Right? I'm 51 years old. Veteran. Have struggled with demons my entire adult life. Manged to be a faithful husband, and a roll model to my now 30yo son. However, I succumbed to the evil and drank myself to death in 2021. I was resuscitated, given new blood, and haven't drank since. This song hits home, and is very humbling. I had held animosity towards my parents spending their money on cigarettes rather than their home. Dad is dead now, and mom is on oxygen 24x7. I had a great childhood without abuse. WTF was wrong with me for being angry? They did their best, and don't have shit to prove to me. Miss ya Dad. I'm now trying to be a better man every day, and will follow the path of Christ until my last breath. I hope someday, my son will feel I have nothing left to prove, and that my beautiful wife will forgive me for drinking and nearly making her a young widow.

Listening to this song makes me cry, but in a healing way. It actually helps me let go of a lot of the bitterness I have toward my parents. There were a lot of things they did that hurt me, some things even that might have been abusive-but it helps to step back and take a look at the bigger picture. I know that they always loved me, and that they did their best with what they had, even if they weren’t perfect. All of us make mistakes. We’re only human.

Same.Song my philosophy. I don't hold things against my family. As I aged, I made my own mistakes - a light went on. Know my families backgrounds (childhoods). They did better than what they endured. Like you said - we all make mistakes. Extend them grace like we need for our screw ups. So many expect perfect parents, grandparents, siblings, children, friends. No one can fulfill that.

Sending a hug Slick, I can’t imagine how hard 2020 was for you. I have no doubt Granny is thankful for all you did, she’s proud of you and she will always be watching over you now. For what it’s worth I lost my mother to brain cancer in ‘04 and my kids were little. I’ve always told them she became a star so she could watch over them forever and that any time they want to talk to her just look to the night sky and find the brightest star cause that’s her. They’re grown now and still refer to my mom as a star. I shared this to give you the same advice, the brightest star is Granny too, always there for you. I hope 2021 is better and that the fond memories you have of Granny give you comfort. 💛

Now that she is gone a huge piece is missing. I am sitting in my office trying not to lose it. The holidays will never be the same. Over the last few years we havent been able to get together as a family because of the pandemic. We had just started having get togethers again this year. It's all she wanted was for the family to be together. She did her best and absolutely has nothing to be ashamed of. She was a rock. Steadfast in her faith and family.

This brings tears every time. I'm a 44 yr old single dad taking care of my special needs son and my dying mother who is deep off in dementia. It's so brutal and I have no one to help and I'm a fuckup and not the one for the job but it's my responsibility. I don't know where my son's mental will wind up. He's 6 now but I cry thinking about how cruel other children can be to him and I wanna punch their fucking faces in. Or at least their dads. I used to be a rock star in small bars literally with my daughter in the car too and I made that choice to let punk rock go and yep it haunts me daily. I miss it so much but I love my two kids more. Mom going out in a bad way and watching it get worse day by day is really hard. But yeah, this one I watch when I want to let some of it out. Beautiful, sincerely touching song. Nova should get more acclaim herself as a musician and not just a director.

This hots home for me too. My dad was a sawmiller his whole life, but after his stroke at age 68, no more sound of the buzz of the sawmill. He survived, but is paralysed all down his right side, a big piece of him was lost that awful day, he's just not the same dad I knew now. He's 75 now, so is my mother, she's dying of alzheimers. I've just escaped an abusive 16 year relationship, and can finally go back to my home state of Tasmania, Australia, so they can finally spend the last of their time with their daughter whom they haven't heard from, or seen for 5 years. Im crying , but its not tears of sadness, its tears of relief and love, im coming home 💖😭 💝

This really hit home. Being adopted my birth father's family received the letter I was looking for them the day they came home from his funeral. He had told them about me and they had been trying to find me for years, and I was told the biggest regret he had was not fighting for me ! Great Job Nova, keep keeping it real ! My dad had a son before he met my mom, he told us about our brother and we all tried finding him on social media for years. It wasn't until my dad's funeral that we met our distant brother. He was very upset with my dad as he assumed he never tried to find him. When my dad passed away, his ex was told and she finally told us where our brother was.
