J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) explains how magic works and he performs his first trick.
FILM DESCRIPTION:

The essence of this trick was even that you all saying that a card was shown for a longer time, but actually there were multiple 7's in that deck kept together.

@@chieffox8502 I know, It's just a detail that the film makers didn't really have to put in but I thought it was fun that they did. Sorta so the audience can play along, it was a very clever way to load the "hook" to the movie. Then I was just pointing out that it's a rather philosophical difference between the card being shown for longer and their being more cards present.

There are multiples “7 of diamonds” in that deck of cards. Then it produces two effects , the illusion of that particular card been held for a longer time, and it gets stick in your mind as well. Just play the video in slow motion and you’ll see it.

1 card deck, three or four 7 of diamonds cards put together create the optical illusion of distinguishing the card from the others. I did the same trick in high school. You also glue the bottom of the three cards along with a random card put in front of those. That way when its your time to show the espectator the full deck and you slide all the cards the four glued cards ( let's say, three seven of diamonds all glued together behind one king of clubs for instance) will be hidden behind the random card you glued in front of those.

+Muhammad Baker the reason you chose the 7 of diamonds is because he wanted you to see the 7 of diamonds. He purposely made it last longer than the rest of the cards on the deck, so your brain only interprets that card.

That's how the editing magicians in Hollywood do it. If you look at that shot frame-by-frame, you'll notice the other cards are blurry or out of focus, but the 7 of diamonds is in perfect focus.

Not only he made us choose the 7 of diamonds, he put two 7 of diamonds. Pause the video every once in a while when he's shuffling the cards for her to see. You'll see more than one 7 or diamonds card.

I do what I can to help her with the understanding that we all have our struggles... including me. I think he deals with his very well. Slow the footage there's several of the exact same card in back to back meaning your eyes stay hooked on it since it's the only card you can clearly see due to the speed of the flick

For everybody wondering, the 7 of diamonds card is shorter than the others, giving the illusion that it stays for longer which makes you pick the card(don’t know how but I’m pretty sure i have a deck like that at home and I’ve pulled off this trick a few times before). I also think three 7 of diamond cards were in the deck just to add reinforcement and allow the audience to tune in to the magic.

It's not hard to explain - he showed the 7 of diamond a split second longer than he did on the rest of the cards. He then either removed the 7 of diamond from the deck using a slight of hand, or hid the 7 behind another card in the deck. Easy.

I chose seven of diamonds too. It was the most visible card. I believe he already knew the seven of diamonds would work because the eyes register it before the other cards in the deck. The more attention you pay the more your eyes register the card he wants you to pick.

The card with a 7 on it was trimmed slightly which makes it last longer before being flipped, just slightly longer so your eyes notice it more than the others and your brain is drawn to it. That’s the trick! I did this when I was younger, one of the most basic magic tricks there are!

The reason a lot of people are also seeing the 7 of diamonds, like myself, is because if you slow down the video you can see that there is more than one 7 of diamonds, you see it longer. It’s the only card you can really properly focus on.

It’s called force of play where the 7 is higher then the other cards so it gets stuck and catches the audiences eyes

well if you slow it down right before he goes through the deck you can see that there are multiple cards next to each other showing 7 of diamonds, still pretty sick tho

Everybody saw the 7 of diamonds for a reason, all the other cards were too blury to really be able to see, and the card was toward the middle, giving us more time to react It is a magic trick in film making

if u are picking 7 of diamond, it's normal because he put multiple copies of 7 of diamond in the deck, not just making sure that u saw it but also the most impressive o.e. it's just a simple brain science, we pay more attention and have stronger impression to abnormals in order to protect ourselves. So in this case, our brain will make us have stronger impression of that card because it has longer duration time than other cards and you may not aware it, but ur brain sense the different and active the self-protecting mechanism which makes u pick that card
