Ugly Weirdo Pathfinder solo is a massive challenge! Glad my vids can be a help. I did one vid on Starfinder but it was quite a lot of content to parse through for me.

Other than the initial video(varney the vampire), this is your most interesting video yet. The tables, vials and trinkets, are fertile for creativity. I found myself wondering who the bone powder was when he was alive. When you were creating the entry order, I got the cliche of the two mages standing there claiming to be the real one. Very entertaining. I've been trying to figure out a way to do social encounters and make the npcs less generic. Using needs and motivation, maslow? Building up a popularity with an npc and using that to unlock different effects like introducing me to another pc or using their skills to help me etc. Seems a little to much board gamey. Your narrative freeform is so much more preferred. Just an excellent video on a subject I am very interested in.

Rob Harris Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. You raise some great points about what could be going on here and ways to think about npc interactions.

A solution I use to handle surprise is to reverse my solo role. Instead of being a solo player I focus on being a solo DM. I use the Mythic game master emulator, yes/no system, or story cubes as a player emulator. It works really well for premade modules.

I greatly appreciate this work in the D and D system. I am continuing to watch as you work-out this theme of non-combat encounters in solo play. The non-combat encounters open the story of solo play and are sometimes more challenging to dream-up than the combat default. I hopeful to discover ways to randomize the non-combat "event" in addition to the non-combat character-type (e.g., doppelganger, elf or halfling). Thanks so much Geek Gamers for your fun and thoughtful videos.

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. I'd love to discover a treasure trove of (someone else's) d100 tables to roll on npc's and non-combat responses because yes, as you have said and I said differently in the video, providing this in solo work is challenging.

You could try dropping the dice in a glass tumbler. They're less likely to bounce out and everyone can see what you rolled. It has become my preferred method for non dice-pool games.

Sometimes it's difficult to make sense out of some of the word combos, but it's a fun creative exercise.........or I just re-roll.

Did the doppelganger have to be a duplicate of someone in the party? It could have been a doppelganger of the wizard that originally presided in this workshop. Where might that scenario have gone?

Hi GG, great video. You hit the proverbial hammer on the head of what is missing from solo rpg play.. like salsa not having just enough salt, or an itch you cant scratch, etc...etc. I was wondering (since I am a programmer by occupation) if I could get your opinion on something. I too, have been wanting to try and address this issue. i was thinking about writing an android app that could simulate (abstractly) the response of NPC's via the various emotional stimuli received from their environment, interaction with other char's etc. Is this something you would find useful or others might find useful. I know in some of your videos you mention how you strictly use pen and paper, but this would simply be on your phone no need for a PC, or is even that too much? Would a paper system be preferred?

boltimuss Glad you enjoyed the vid, thanks. I think your idea is a great one. On my end I would prefer not to use anything (especially not my phone) but in general for soloists I would think that could address a pressing issue-the flatness of a GMless world when it comes to other characters and their motivations and actions and interactions with you.
