This actually is an excellent performance. Like you said, Jack can "sing" when he wants to. He sings like he does in the studio because he has to have at least some mainstream appeal, but at heart Jack is a bluesman, and he sings like one. It's not that he's not trying in his live performances, it's just he's really cutting loose, and it's awesome.

That's the thing...everyone keep saying Jack sounded like shit and whatever. But it doesn't matter if he plays perfectly or not, doesn't matter if you can hear the words, all that matters is the feel. If he feels like playing it like on this record or that you just gotta feel it. Blues or rock don't have to be perfect. It's about the feel. Same about romance, it doesn't have to be perfect unless you feel it. It's about romance, thruth and feels. He's not trying to be perfect, he's trying to feel it as much as he can. That's a real music.

Jack White is a fucking magician, when he does Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground he drops his pick onto his middle and ring finger, then somehow gets it back into the regular position between his thumb and index. I noticed cuz I'm a guitarist, and that's some tricky shit. So props to him for that, I know it's pretty insignificant, but I thought it was cool.

+Rob Pitashe Yeah but I think he knows, after all he decided to open for the guy. Jack White is a living legend but he knows his limitations. I've never seen Jack White boast about him being a good guitar player or singer, quite the contrary he's always saying that he's shit, but he just wants it to be emotional and engaging. And well... he's not shit, I mean he's definitely a pro top tier guitar player, people like me wouldn't imagine to get on his playing level, but say compared to Jimmy Page or B.B. King... He's in their league but he's more in the Cobain sub-tier... raw emotional, not on point, always different... Some say that's the genius of Jack White but sometimes it's really weird, it seems that he's just unable to play the same song the same way twice...
@bobbycigarette8 жыл бұрын
I agree I love Jack White . The only reason he is opening for jacks record label is becasue Jack begged him to frankly. There is an article on it. Much mutual respect but Seasick plays in front of 100k people in UK. He is not nearly as big in the states. Mad respect to them both. I just think Seasick has more emotion, more engaging. I agree though with your assessment of Jack White He plays with sincerity. If I was to be asked what kind of music do you like? I like sincere music. Which Is why I love them both very much at have to be in very different moods. I don't think seasick plays anything same way twice either, part of both of their genius. Seasick guitars and tuning alone wouldn't allow for an identical sound you can see this by his live shows. Thurston Moore once said there is nothing worse than Perfectly Produced Error Free Music it has no soul.

Rowlandph I've gotta agree. I've heard his name for awhile now, and not familiar with his music. He was in Anchorage just last night for a 'surprise concert' at the college for 3 bucks a head. A few thousand young people stood in line in some less than ideal weather for a chance to see him. I can't put the guy down for what he's doing, more power to him if he can sell it, but like you, I can go down to any of several bars in town and see a more satisfying show most any night. I suppose he speaks to the current generation or something. But hats off to him for providing a concert for 3 bucks! Apparently money is not his chief motivator.And I'd rather see 1,000 shaggy hipsters touring around than just one Justin Bieber.

Good analysis. I'm more like 30 years behind the times. I haven't caught up with that whole Seattle grunge thing. But I did check out some of his other music including earlier stuff with White Stripes and I kinda like it. But I respect the guy for keeping old blues style music alive.
