I didn't think repeaters were available during the Civil War..

They were available. It common, but available and used. Themost common repeating rifles available during the Civil War were the seven-shot Spencer, and the 16-shot Henry.

Yes they were. Spencers held 7 rounds in the stock and the Henry could hold about 15 rounds in tube under barrel.

bacsi19461 it really depend on the stock length of the spencer. Rifle version held like 11. While the carbine, held 8, if loaded correctly.

I've heard a claim that civil war generals didn't advocate for repeating rifles because they thought soldiers would only waste ammunition. Does anyone know if that is true?

@@wyattpeterson6286 its true munition department thouth they coudnt suply or produce ammo fast enough thats why even after civil war armies still used single shots
