we Went to another NRL22 match at the Caledonia forest and stream club on dec 17. This was the second event they held. The turnout was down a few guys from the month before but still a good turnout for the temps. Nikki’s father came up from NY and he was gonna shoot in it also, but he didn’t realize exactly how the event would take place. He picked up a savage mark2 and yesterday we sighted it in. I knew he would have trouble because he only had a Leopoldo hunting scope that didn’t have exposed turrets and it also had a simple duplex reticle. If you wanna shoot in an event you need one or another, turrets or reticle. He ended up by not shooting but got a good idea of how it works and stuff he needs to shoot in the next match. Temps were -3 on the way there and it only got colder as the day went on. We were close to the northern boarder. We had all kinds of issues with the savage and the ruger with failures and stockpiles. Since I added the barrel to the 10/22 it had trouble ejecting. I polished the bolt and guide rod, and also messed with spring tension. Still a no go. I’ve always shot eley but I picked up a bunch of lapua centerX for this event. Ruger wasn’t having it, so we ended up sharing the bolt action. To my surprise my bolt gun was a single shot. I had failure after failure with ejections. I cleaned the bolt and chamber area before we left just to make sure I didn’t have issues. Other guys were using Kidd upgraded 10/22 and the rest had cz455. A couple triggers failed but they were able to get them up and running again. The savage didn’t straighten itself out. I’m hoping it was the weather and I’ll give it another try. If I have another issue with it I’m gonna buy a CZ instead. As far as accuracy the CZ and savage are pretty similar but the design of the ejector on CZ dominates. I hope on the current savage .22 they fix this. It’s a really accurate rifle and is setup for .22 c9mpetitions but it has to operate correctly in all weather conditions. If you guys have any thoughts on 8mproving the savage ejector please let me know in comment section. The ruger is getting a face lift. I ordered a Kidd bolt and print kit. I'm using fiocchi exacta 40gr when I compete in winter season.

In weather that cold you should be shooting biathlon style 22 ammunition. They aren't wax covered rather they are oil covered. My Savage mk2 is a solid 1.5moa gun all summer long but in the winter it shoots 4" groups after the wax builds up in the barrel. If I clean it it will shoot tight for 3 rounds and then the wax must build up again and immediately all subsuqent groups are big as my fist. In summertime the wax covered 22 bullets don't bother it one bit, but wintertime. A totally different story. First time I shot 22lr in winter I thougth my gun was messed up.

Don’t know a whole lot about it but you mentioned getting snow in the chamber. There is a chance that it was melting and then re freezing on the bullets. We’re other people having the same issues?

I used the ruger factory ten round magazine's only seems to be the most reliable. Even the bx twenty five has given me issues but that 3 degrees can mess up anything

Out of all the social media sites I like YT because it points people to things they have knowledge in. That's why I need your help. What would cause a 10/22 to not cycle. It's factory, except for stock and I installed a Kidd barrel. I made sure the ejection port is perfect on barrel with ejector. Subsonic will not eject spent case, it will double feed a live rd into spent. Lapua center X and eley will chamber new rd but stovepipe the spent. I ordered new spring kit to try and tune it.....any ideas? We had a bad day of failures. The savage is getting one more chance. If it fails it's going in safe and I'm gonna order a CZ

Jeff Allen no I didn't...I also changed up the bullets. I put a silencer on it thinking it would add more back pressure but same thing happened

I think it is two part. First, I'm betting the cold temperature is playing havoc on the bullet lubricant. I'm guessing it's "caking up" like wax on feed ramp and extractor? Even in East Texas with me shooting in temps around 25 F, I've had similar issues this winter with my 10/22. Second, I've found that even in warm summer months I have same problem, just not as often. I clean all of my magazines, inside and outside (factory 10 rd. and BX 25's), especially the feeding lips with a steel barrel brush for a .243 (fits nicely) . Complete disassembly if I've run over 500 rounds through the magazine or just a quick brushing if I've run less. The gun gets broken down and cleaned after approx. 1-2 thousand rounds. That has my failures way down to only about 2-3 per 400 rounds using bulk Aguila 40gr High velocity.

-3 are you NUTS. Sure glad I live in central TEXAS. It did snow here last week, got a whole 2 inches. HEHE.

My guess on the fails would be that it's to COLD for the oil that u are using and the round does not have the power to eject the round in that cold temperature. Might wont to try CLP, that's what we used in the ARMY in GERMANY. Just my guess.
