39G was having a ton of problems before I got to Horseshoe Curve. They stalled before reaching the brickyard crossing, the first helper set was having power issues as NS 7254 was shut down with a ground relay fault, the headend couldn’t hear the rear helpers and another helper set was called in. As I got to the top, the train begin moving at 5 MPH. Things seemed like they were good until people noticed the eighth to last car (LWAX 138) had the trucks leaning in the air about 3 feet off the railhead. The people at the curve made hand gestures to N55 (helper set) to stop and they did before they reached the other side of the curve. There was too much power on the rear as they were in notch 8 with seven units online and since the car was empty, the trucks came off the rail. Once the train came to a halt, the car had rerailed itself because of the slack. This made the entire crew confused why people were signaling the helper crew to stop. The car inspectors came to the curve to ask what they were dealing with. Railfans showed them video of the car in question. They found what they were dealing with and returned to the train. After I left, N55 brought 11 cars back to Altoona. 39G seemed to encounter more problems as they had a wheel slip with the second unit (NS 1187) near Cresson. After dealing with those problems, they continued West. 39G was 15,023 tons and 13,910 feet.
