Kicking off a new series for 2020 with a compressed playthrough as Nubia! In this series, I'll be going over the strategies that I use to win games and taking a look at how they're implemented. I'll also be analyzing mistakes that are made and teaching you how to avoid them in your games. For this first episode, we have a science victory with Amanitore of Nubia.

1st I really like long lets play series as I tend to watch them while at work. That being said. I really enjoy what you are doing here. Short and sweet with a great way of explaining your strategy before hand and during game play. I do the same with starts. I take what I am given and go from there.

Really liked this video and concept - I often enjoy being able to watch the whole series because I get to see all the little decisions that culminate into a winning move, but I ended up enjoying this much more - and the time commitment (for me anyways) was much more palatable for my work/life balance haha. One suggestion I would have for you would be to include the victory/loss turn at the end and maybe some discussion on what decisions you made that sped up or slowed down achieving your victory condition.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. You approach the game as a series of inflection points and describe how you adapted at the time. I enjoy turn-by-turn breakdowns in the early game, since that's when the experts show off the higher level stuff that can take down Deity AIs. That's sort of what you did here, since you basically won the game with your early game tactics. Can't wait to see which civ/scenario/win condition you take on next!

Good luck in 2020, this format is better. I watched pretty much all education stuff you've uploaded about districts, city-states etc. Try to mention that understanding most of what you say is directly linked to those tutorials, gotta boost views on across all of those as well.

great idea of a series for 2020, saxy. i like the comprimized style. great that you showed how to plan a multiple districts grid near your capital with the map tacks in early game. hud ribbon = on during the complete video would be great, so that we viewers can see how far behind / in front (science, culture, military strength etc) you are compared to the ki players during your walkthrough :-)

Great video ! I would slow down a bit in the early phase and give maybe a few more informations on policies and cities placement, but that's indeed much more enjoyable when a full game is compressed to less than an hour. Could you maybe also add the ribbon where we see every civ's faith, science and culture ?

This feels like it has a high, unrealized potential. You still looked at things move by move, when you could have detail some of the large-scale strategies that you were using (choice of districts, important techs to aim for, key policies, important components of the war (think "Gorgo then got catapults, which I dealt with in x way" or "I focused fire to gain control of x strategic position"), government types...). I’d recommend you create some supporting materials to help you presentation be clearer. Make maps, make point-by-point lists of your developement plans, make a list of the changes to your strategy that your geography brings, list your diplomatic goals... Your video lacked visuals. Accelerated gameplay actually isn’t very interesting, and since your aren’t making a let’s play, you aren’t forced to show the game at all times. Most of the micro decisions aren’t important enough for this format. Look at the large scale of things, because that’s the entire concept of such shorter videos: a civ game, summed up, with key strategic decisions explained. Let’s plays are boring because we have to sit through so much micro decisions, which aren’t meaningful compared to the macro decisions that are made, such as long term strategies
@TazKiKr

Only problem i would have with your suggestion is that it would make the gap between "play & record" and "publishing" so much longer and force Saxy to post fewer videos as each one would take even more time to create. I love this and would like to see a rush of them asap.

@@victoraraujo6723 Diplo victory is by far the most RNG heavy victory type, and therefore not something you should plan on from the start. Some tips include * Always use your diplo favor to win the world congress, instead of saving it up. Learn how the AI tends to vote for each thing (this is where RNG comes in, some votes are much easier to win than others) * Try to get a lot of gold, to buy other people's diplo favor and win aid requests (this is also RNG, sometimes there will be a lot of aid requests and sometimes none). * Try to build the diplo point wonders, especially Statue of Liberty * If you have a lot of victory points, the AI will always vote for you to lose 3 points. Vote for yourself to lose 3 points, and you'll only lose 2 (since you'll gain one for winning that vote). Win the other two votes and you will come out neutral. * You always gain victory points before losing them. This means if you have 17+ points and win all congress 3 votes you will win the game, even if the vote makes you lose 3 points.

I’m early on in a “Huge” “Marathon” game with this lovely young lady. This is a pleasant break let alone some great angles/advise! Great content and Thank You!. edit: just to add, my biggest challenge is planning for each of my cities to have a ‘Nubian Pyramid’ and be close enough to each other to be practical. The pyramid is too powerful to not employ especially in a 1500 turn game.

This is how "let's play" should be done. I always hate watching boring let's plays, a rundown and highlights and stuff is much better. I think the only part I would alter a little was the war part. Maybe speed up and slow down on certain focal moments of the war would have been interesting, so we could see exactly how it was won?

I think the early aggression is extremely rng dependant. if a neighboring civ has an early uu, there's basically no chance to conquer your neighbor, because said unit will almost one shot the unique archer. otherwise, you have to hope that they don't build walls by turn 35 or something. also if you have no direct neighbor an early rush is basically impossible due to loyalty.

I enjoyed this format. Isn't it terribly time consuming to post edit? A slight alternative to this you could try is playing until 100ish turns and if - like in this game - you judge the game basically won, you can tap out. But if it's fairly tight you can bring it all the way to the end. I liked how roughly 60-65% of the video was spent pre-rennesaince era. I feel it makes a lot of sense in terms of how important the early turns are. The only thing I'd recommend is for you to take a breath and allow some quiet and calm. A little goes a long way. A concrete example is that you didn't really need to comment the war after you took Sparta. You could just show it. Great job overall!

Just some advice, you could have explored a little more once you had shipbuilding. You had a whole continent to yourself but had no idea what was happening in the rest of the map. Could have been useful to see if the AI were making any particular wonders. You could have just built a few harbours to trade with them and you could have been spying on them. Also you would have had a bit more era score to avoid a dark age. Obviously it didn't end up matering in the end because you had so much land to yourself but imo it's always worth it to keep an eye on the AI even if it's just so you can screw them over for your own entertainment.

It wasn't too necessary for the type of game I was going for. Since I was done with aggression and just looking to turtle out to a science victory, there wasn't really any need to put resources into meeting the other players in the game. If I was going for any other victory types though, I likely would've explored sooner.
