Actually, as you can read in the 'more info' box... The Porsche driver was holding back, but only on the straights. Through the fast changes of direction, I was all over the back of the Porsche and even slowing down.

This video has the one thing all driving sims are missing -- bugs on the windshield! This guy's living the dream, tho. Wearing a Nissan hat while driving a Renault in Germany.

Over the camber changes and through the slow/medium speed corners the R26.R is all over the GT3RS. It's only a front-wheel-drive shopping trolley, but it's got the grip and it's never out of shape over the crappier surfaces and angles.

please please please can we see a version of this video with no music and more from the in car mic of the Megane. What a fantastic video - you're very lucky people to be able to go 'out for a play' on work time let alone do it on the ring. jammie gits : )

Hi everyone- I have owned 996 GT3 as well as Megane R26- I currently own 997GT3 RS and an R26R- my main domain is the Nordschleife with many 100's of fast laps there- let me tell you that the R26R is a phenomal car, but it does not get close to the GT3 at any point, if driven by the same driver under the same conditions, same tires. The Megane is a much easier driving car though because more stable. The official laptimes are: 7m42Sec for the 997 compared to 8m17Sec for the R26R...any questions?

Geo at the time was different to how we have it now, but it was still ballpark excellent. You make it sound like the only way a GT3RS could be slower than an R26.R at any point is if it's broken!

The Megane was surprisingly fast as I quickly found out during the VLN practice. I was lucky enough to hitch a ride.

Northern passenger is usally good for +15 hp, although to be fair both cars are no E30 318is

Megane is FWD and its back wheels are really stable at those speeds I own one, not the R26R but a lighter version (1.6l 16v without catalyst, with improved air flow (air coming from under the engine bay) and it behaves the same way if whether on good black road or on dirt, it has the same stability on both grounds

There are sections where its faster, only briefly, but it is. C'est la vie!

This is not normal r26r but r26r tuned by Dijon Auto Racing, so it has over 400 HP. The normal r26r with 230 HP would have no chance wiht gt3 rsr. But it's very interesting film and I also love this Renault.

Porsche waits for Megane to make things look a bit more exciting …..

Excellent driving! Shame the Megane sounds like a vacuum cleaner though!

Over a lap the R26.R is going to lose 50 seconds here, no doubt. But it's not wise to dismiss the possibility that the little Renault is slower on every part of the 21km course. Not unless you've datalogged everything with the same driver and same conditions...

The Megane is a lighter, stiffer and a lot more stable car than the gt3rs and hence the increased grip and stability through all types of corners, especially the rough surface ones. The gt3is in all a flawed design for a pure racing machine but is in my view an "alternative" driving experience to the perfectly mastered ferraris and zondas, however the guy in the megane must be absolutaly buzzing as he sees himself catch up to a supercar every corner he goes around

yeah an average driver in a front wheel drive megane is obviously gonna be able to keep up with an average driver in a porshe as its much easier to keep yourself out of trouble, this track has too many straights for a good handling car vs a fast car to lose it through corners.

There's no way the R26.R would keep up with a GT3RS around the twisties or higher speed bends. Either the GT3 driver is useless, he's holding back big time, or the GT3 needs a geo check done.

@scoot24925 can be. I saw the film with megane made by Dijon racin so I thougt, that is one of them. But even when its not I steel know But there that no megane could keep up with any gt3. He could have even seen the back of gt3. This is not this class.

Why is everyone whining, are you really so dumb or just pretending to be? Of course the GT3RS is faster, its got an engine twice the size of the one in megane, twice as much hp, its RWD, about the same weight, more aerodynamic, and costs 10 times more. But you cant argue that Megane R26 is a masterpiece of a car. ~8:15 lap time with a FWD car thats got a bit more than 220hp is highly impressive..its faster around nurburgring that some proper sports cars like M3 (e46), Aston V8 vantage, etc..

No he wasn't there was a better driver in the megane than in the porsche.
