Jaymicksee your making out the Megane didnt have to worry about the poor road surface! and its running road legal cut slicks! The R26.R at 1250kg or about is still heavier than a VXR astra N'ring at 1230kg's and its down on power but still nailed that by over 10 seconds R26.R has an amazing chassis end of.

Quite impressive. But then again a caterham that costs the same as the Renault gives u at least another 25bhp (a lot in such a small car) and a 6speed gearbox instead of a 5speed. (This "CDX " Caterham is a limited edition caterham. It uses some old Rover K-Series engines Caterham still had lying around somewhere) Though I guess some proper tyres would fix the problem. (The caterham is half the weight and has more bhp/t than the renault - it should win in normal conditions.)

I believe this is the same track that Jason Plato lapped the Mugen Civic RR at 42.8 sec. in the dry, compared to the R26R's 46 sec.damp.

Caterham kindly sold me that actual car. As the video suggests it has little grip in the wet, but, I can assure you, defies the laws of physics in the dry. Takes off like a scolded cat, stops on a sixpence, and sounds fantastic on cam. I have a RenaultSport 200, and the Caterham would leave it standing in the dry. And who wants to drive fast on public roads in the wet? The road is not a racetrack.....ahem. The missus loves it too!

@StigRossi You totally misunderstand. I didn't say that the Caterham wasn't a driver's car, I said that the Renault was. I was paying the R26R a compliment. It's hard for me to take the Caterham seriously, as a road car. In very capable hands, it didn't perform all that well. It's a very cool toy though. I take offense to your comment because I actually know a lot about cars. You can't sum up what I know by one comment. Whatever.

R26R laps the nurburgring in what time? What does the caterham do it in?

I really think he's comparing bananas and mangos! How do those two cars compare? technology vs weight and low power... tires as mentioned before will make a big difference in the rain - and in the dry, what would it be? The caterham at least seemed fun to drive!

I'd love to see a Caterham vs. Westfield Megabusa. Plus, the westfield looks cooler.

My friend works at a renault dealership. They had a R26R in the showroom for almost 2 years. Everybody wanted it, but nobody bought it.

only r26r is faster... but compare r26r to focus rs in daily use, and you should reconsider what would you buy. besides... how many times would you really use a car you would buy on a racing track? and even if you would, you need to be quite a pro to test the full potential of the car like this.

@GrotrianSeiler I was going to say that "for you to imply that the Caterham..." but I was too lazy to type :P I know you were paying the Renault a compliment its a great car, and I'm in the market for one. Weirdly enough I'm also in the market for a Caterham as well (plan to buy the Cat, run for a year or so, and if it is too hardcore change it for an R26R. I retract my comment re: your knowledge about cars, as I'm sure its quite stellar. Its just that the Cat is my fav car so i took offense :)

The Megane 2 RS is faster than everything else, it actually holds the speed record around the 'Ring for a FWD ! The only one that can beat this beast will be the Megane RS 3.
